Nellie Nieb, 85, of 1720 Phillip Road, died Friday, April 17,1998, in Lakeland Medical Center. She was born Sept. 27, 1912. Survivors include a daughter, Dinah L. Burch of Edwardsburg. Services will be at 7 p.m. Monday in Pifer-Smith Funeral home, where friends may call two hours before services.

Nieb, George E.

George E. Nieb

Services for George E. Nieb, 78, of 1720 Phillip Road, who died of natural causes early Monday, Dec. 11, 1995, in his home, will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday in first Presbyterian Church. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. today in Pifer-Smith Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church foundations.

Mr. Nieb was a farmer and a Niles Township fire chief for five years. He was born Sept. 7, 1917, in Niles to Howard and Rose E. (Umholtz) Nieb. On June 2, 1941, in Niles, he married Nellie Goud. She survives with a daughter, Dinah L. Burch of Edwardsburg and a granddaughter, Mindy Burch of Edwardsburg. He was a charter member of Morris Farms Fire Department, co-founder of Niles Township fire department, and member of St. Joseph Valley Masonic Lodge 4, Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks 1322 and the church.

Daniel P. Nieb, 68, Native of Niles, Taken by Death. 

An illness of three weeks of heart trouble caused the death Tuesday afternoon of Daniel P. Nieb, 68, who died at 4:30 in his home at 808 Woodruff Street. Mr. Nieb had lived in Niles all his life.

He was born here Sept. 2, 1872 and was married April 13, 1898 in Buchanan to Ida Linsenmier who survives. He also leaves two sons, Harold Nieb, Niles and Lester Nieb, Utica, NY.

Other survivors include five sisters, Mrs. Minnie Cole and Mrs. Anna Codd, Grand Rapids, Mrs. Charles Hummer and Mrs. Marguerite Snyder, South Bend and Mrs. Ida Williams, Plymouth, Ind., and three brothers, William Nieb, South Bend, George Nieb, Blooming Prairie, Minn., and Henry Nieb, Waldron, Mich.

Friends may call at the Rutherford funeral home tonight and at the Nieb residence after 10 Thursday morning. Friday morning at 11 the body will be taken to the First Evangelical church to lie in state until the hour of the funeral at 2:30.

The Rev. A.R. Kuehn pastor of the church, will officiate at the services. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

 

Nichols, Warren F.

Nichols Funeral Services Friday at Kiger Home.

Services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. in the Kiger funeral home for Warren F. Nichols, 540 Cherry Street, who died yesterday, at 8:15 a.m.

The Rev. T.M. Greenhoe will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Native of Kalamazoo.

Nichols, 65, was born July 25, 1881, in Kalamazoo. He had been a resident of Niles 53 years, and was a former employee of the French Paper Co.  He was a member of the Eagles lodge.

Survivors are a daughter, Mrs. Clovis Griffith, Clearwater, Fla.; four grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Babcock, Niles, and Mrs. Jane Bingham, South Bend and two brothers, Ray Nichols and Charles Nichols, both of Niles.

NILES—Services for Vincent A. Nichols, 61, of 1132 Sassafras La., who died at 6:33 a.m. Saturday in Pawating Hospital, will be held in the Halbritter Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Mrs. Earl Styers, First Church of Christ Scientist Reader, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. He was born in Hillsdale, Mich. on March 9, 1909, and came here in 1967 from Edwardsburg. His wife, Mary, died in 1969. He is survived by two daughters, Miss Martha Nichols of Minneapolis, Minn., Mrs. Ron Logan of Richland, Mich.; a son, Sgt/ David, in the U.S. Air Force, Vietnam; and two brothers, two sisters and a grandson. Contributions may be made to the Heart Fund.

Vincent A. Nichols, 61, of 1132 Sassafras Lane, died at 6:35 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 16, 1971 in Pawating Hospital.  A retired employee of Bendix Corp., Mr. Nichols was born March 9, 1909, in Hillsdale, and had lived her since 1967, coming from Edwardsburg. On March 11, 1939, in South Bend, he married Mary A. Graham, who died in 1969. He was a member of the Bendix Management club and the American Society for quality Control.

Survivors include a son, David G. Nichols, in Vietnam; two daughters, Martha A. Nichols of Minneapolis, Minn., and Mrs. Ron (Karen) Logan of Richland, Mich.; two brothers, Marshall of Horton, Mich., and Russell of Reading, Mich; a sister, Mrs. Daisy Moore of Hillsdale; a half-sister, Mrs. Mary E. Bell of Jonesville, Mich., and a grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Halbritter Funeral Home, with Mrs. Earl Styers of the First c}Church of Christ Christian officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call after 7 tonight at the funeral home.  Memorials maybe given to the Niles YMCA Memorial fund.

NEAL NICHOLS, 60, DIES FRIDAY NIGHT

For 30 years an employee of the French Paper company. Neal Nichols, 60, of 106 Forest Avenue died at 7:20 p.m. Friday, in his home where he had been ill eight days.

He was born in Kalamazoo July 4, 1884, and came in Niles when four years old. He was married here June 2, 1917 to Florence Vandenburg.

Surviving are the widow, Cassopolis; a son, Neal Nichols, Niles; a daughter, Mrs. Norma Weaver, Cassopolis; three brothers, Warren Nichols, Berrien Center, and Raymond and Charles Nichols, Niles, and two sisters, Mrs. R.E. Babcock, Niles, and Mrs. G.U. Bingham, South Bend.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home where services will be conducted Tuesday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

NILES--Mrs. Mary Nichols, 59, of 1132 Sassafras Lane, died at 8:45 p.m. Saturday in Pawating Hospital.

Mrs. Nichols was born September 19, 1909 in Benton Harbor and had lived her since 1967, coming from Edwardsburg. She married Vincent A. Nichols, who survives, on March 11, 1939, in South Bend, and was a member of the First Church of Christ Scientist.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Nichols is survived by a son, Sgt. David G. Nichols, George Air Force Base, Calif.; two daughters, Martha A. Nichols, Minneapolis, Minn., and Karen Nichols, Boulder, Colo.; her mother, Mrs. Millie E. Graham, Niles and a brother, G. M. Graham, Niles.

Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in the Halbritter Funeral Home, with the reader Mrs. Earl Styers officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home.  The family requests that memorials be given to the First Church of Christ Scientist Memorial Fund.
