Albert A. Kuppernus, 92, Elkhart, formerly of Niles, died at 10 p.m. Wednesday in Treva's Nursing Home, Elkhart.

Mr. Kuppernus was born Oct. 30, 1872, in Three Oaks. His wife, Bertha, died in 1962.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth, North Hollywood, Calif., a sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Geideman, Niles, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Walley-Mill's-Zimmerman Funeral Home, Elkhart. The Rev. W. Kennell will officiate. Burial will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery here.

Friends will be received at the funeral home after 7 p.m. today.

MRS. KISSINGER'S DEATH FOLLOWED LONG ILLNESS

Had Been a Resident of Niles For 11 years—Was Born in Ohio

 

Mrs. Minnie A. Kissinger, wife of Thomas Kissinger, passed away at 8:26 o'clock last evening at her home at 299 North Seventh street, after about six months' illness, with a complication of diseases.

Mrs. Kissinger was born in Sandusky, Ohio, July 24, 1862. Her Marriage to Mr. Kissinger occurred at Covington, Ky.  About 20 years ago the family moved to Buchanan and continued to reside there for nine years. In 1903 they moved to Niles and have since resided here.

Mrs. Kissinger is survived by her husband and three children. The latter are Mrs. W.H. Kelley of Washington, D.C.; Edward and Miss Gladys Kissinger of Niles. John, the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Kissinger passed away in May, 1913. Mrs. Kelley has been in Niles for the past two weeks, assisting in the care of her mother.

Mrs. Kissinger was a member of Trinity Episcopal church and of the Woman's guild. She was faithful in her duties and loyally supported the guild in every effort put forth, her work in the church giving her great pleasure. Mrs. Kissinger had many friends in Niles who sincerely mourn her death. Realizing that the end was approaching Mrs. Kissinger made every arrangements for her funeral even to the details, but maintained a cheerful and hopeful spirit to the end.

The funeral arrangements have not been completed.

Largely attended funeral services for Mrs. Thos. Kissinger were held from the house Sunday afternoon. Friends were present from Chicago, South Bend, Dowagiac and Buchanan. Floral offerings were in abundance. Rev. George Huntington officiated. Miss Phoebe Baker sang three beautiful hymns. Interment was at Silver Brook cemetery.

Willie James, 76, 1134 N. Ninth St., Niles died Thursday at 7:15 p.m. at the Woodfield Manor, Niles

He was born Sept. 23, 1910 in Columbus, Miss. and came to this area in 1954 from Osceola, Ark. He married Leoma James Sept. 5, 1945 in Lucus [sic] county, Ohio. She died Dec. 25, 1986.

He was a retired employee of Midland Engineering, where he worked until 1976 as a roofer. He was a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Niles.

Survivors include five sons, Joe of Niles, Willie Jr. of Des Moines, Iowa, John, Charles, and Charlie of Seattle, Wash.; four daughters, Pauline Clemmer and Lucinda Patrick of Niles, Hattie Kelley of Buchanan and Ruthie James of Flint; three stepsons, Henry Anderson of Kentucky, Rev. Ebenezer Spencer of Bangor and Willie Spencer of South Bend.

Services are Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, where Rev. W.L. Daniel will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. A wake service is slated for Monday from 7-8 p.m. at the Hoven Funeral Home.

HOMER L. HOLLOWAY CLAIMED BY DEATH

Niles High Graduate, Employe of Tyler Company, is Stricken

 

Homer LeRoy Holloway, 23, son of Mrs. Charles Myers, 1313 Oak street, died at 10 o'clock this morning in Pawating hospital. Homer entered the hospital Feb. 9, suffering from complications which followed an attack of pleurisy.

A graduate of Niles high school with the class of 1934, he had been employed at the Tyler Sales-Fixture plant prior to his illness. He was born in Delta, O., April 28, 1914, and moved to Niles with his parents in 1921.

He was an active member of the Methodist church and was popular among the Niles younger set. As a carrier boy for th The Star during his school years he gained a wide acquaintance.

Besides his mother he leaves three sisters, Mrs. Marie McLauchlin, South Bend; Alice, attending school in Detroit, and Betty June, at home; his step-father Charles Myers; two step-brothers, Wilbur and Lamarr, at home and five step-sisters, Mrs. Carl Rowe, South Bend; Mary Myers, Portland, ore., and Charlene, Olive and Jacqulyn Myers, at home.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. T.O. Lee of the Methodist church, the day and hour to be announced later. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Homer Holloway Services Monday in M.E. Church

 

The Rev. T.O. Lee will conduct funeral services for Homer LeRoy Holloway at 2:30 o'clock Monday afternoon in the First Methodist church.

William Owen, Thornton Edwards, Joseph Sherrick, Wilbur Barnhart, William brown and Edwin Olack will serve as pallbearers. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

. . .son of Mrs. Charles Myers, 1313 Oak street, died at 10 o'clock Thursday morning in Pawating hospital. His death followed on illness extending over six weeks.

His body, which is not at the Price and Kiger funeral home, will be taken to the church at 1 o'clock Monday where is will lie in state until time for the services.

ROY DEAN HEYEN, Darden Road, South Bend, Ind., died at 7:23 a.m. Sunday at Parkview-Holy Cross Hospital, Plymouth, Ind., after he committed suicide.

Heyen was employed by the Computer Support Division of Hewlett-Packard Company, South Bend.

He was born July 17, 1957, in Springfield, Ill., and lived in South Bend since 1981, coming from Mt. Prospect, Ill.

On July 18 in South Bend, he married Karen L. Nyborg, who survives.

Also surviving are: his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Merlyn Heyen of Mt. Prospect; three stepsons, Kristopher and Kelly Byler, both of Niles, and Kirk Byler of South Bend; two stepdaughters, Kimberly Byler of Niles and Kirsten Byler of South Bend; a brother, Keith Heyen of Mt. Pleasant; and one grandchild.

Services are at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Halbritter Funeral Home with Rev. John Staples of Community Congregational Church officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Funeral service for Mary T. Schrader, 83, of 3266 W. Valley View Dr., St. Joseph, will be Saturday at 10 a.m. At the Pifer-Smith Funeral Home in Niles by Bruce Tanner of St. Joseph Church of Christ.

Burial will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

Mrs Schrader died Wednesday afternoon at his[sic] home. She was born April 11, 1912, in South Bend, Ind.

On March 2, 1935, at South Bend, she married Lawrence A. Schrader, who preceded her in death Feb. 14, 1981.

Mrs. Schrader was a homemaker.

Survivors include a daughter, Pat Schrader of St. Joseph; a son, Larry A. Schrader of St. Joseph; three sisters, Josephine Quick of Berrien Springs, and Victoria Litty and Ann Montz, both of Niles; and three brothers, John Litty of Dowagiac, Herman Litty of South Bend, and Fred Litty of Niles.

Visitation will be Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.

 

Seielstad, Flora W. (Mollison)

Family services for Flora M. Seielstad, 87, of 266 Watervliet-Shaker Road, Latham, N.Y., will be held at graveside Thursday at 3:30 p.m., at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles, by the Rev. Dr. Ronald H. Wakeman of First Presbyterian Church in Niles.

Mrs. Seielstad died at 5:45 a.m. Tuesday, April 4, at Memorial Hospital in Albany, N.Y., following an extended illness.

She was born May 25, 1907, in Forfar, Scotland, and had lived in Corte Madera, Calif., fromm 1959-1992, then moving to Latham.

Mrs. Seielstad was a member of First Presbyterian Church in San Anselmo, Calif. She was a member of the Coast Guard Wives Club,and the Corte Madera Library Association.

Her husband, Harold Douglas Seielstad, preceded her in death.

Other survivors include two sons, H. Douglas Seielstad of Schenectady, N.Y., and George A. Seielstad of Grand Forks, H.D.; either grandchildren, and a brother, Andrew R. Mollison of Niles. A son, David B. Seielstad, preceded her in death.

There is no visitation.

Arrangements were completed by Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.
