Mrs. Eva F. Gallagher, 85, of 526 South Ironwood Drive, South Bend, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday in the Bundy Nursing Home following an illness of one and a half years.

Mrs. Gallagher was born Feb. 27, 1870, in New York City and moved to Niles from Chicago in 1928. She lived in Niles until 1946 when she moved to South Bend. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the White Shrine. Her husband, James F. Gallagher, died on May 1, 1933.

Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Bert S. Daley, of Niles, and Mrs. Charles E. Hubler, of Chicago; two sons, James K. Gallagher, of Dowagiac, and Clarence N. Gallagher, of Ypsilanti; eight grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. George Lightfoot, of Bass Lake, Ind.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Kiger Funeral Home here with the Rev. T. M. Greenhoe, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

NILES -- Word has been received here of the death Sunday in San Pedro, Calif., of Leo E. (Tim) Clark Jr., 36.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Halbritter Funeral Home.

NILES – Word has been received here of the death at 3:30 p.m. Sunday of Leo E. (Tim) Clark Jr., 36, of San Pedro, Calif. He died at his home.

A construction worker, Mr. Clark was born Jan. 13, 1942 in Niles and moved to California in 1979.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Anne M. Clark of Niles; a son, Timothy Paul of Niles; and grandmothers, Mrs. Earl A. Clark of Niles and Mrs. Marie Pettit of Belleview, Fla.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald L. Harris of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

NILES - Word has been received here of the death at 5:23 p.m. Sunday of Jason Daniel Carter, 6, of 1615 S. Main St., Three Rivers.

He was born May 3, 1972 in South Bend, and died at Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo, following an illness of three years. He was a kindergarten student at Park Community School, Three Rivers, and left Niles two years ago.

Surviving are his stepfather and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Pebler of Three Rivers; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Bixler of Niles; step-grandfather, George Pebler of Niles; and a sister, Kimberly Pebler, at home.

Funeral services will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pifer-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Irvin Bame of the First Church of God, Edwardsburg, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call after 4 p.m. today at the funeral home.

CASSOPOLIS—Frank Barney, of Cassopolis, died late Wednesday night at Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac. The body is at the Connelly Funeral Home here where arrangements are incomplete.

CASSOPOLIS—Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m . Saturday in the Connelly Funeral Home here for Frank Barney, 64, of Cassopolis, who died late Wednesday night at Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac following an illness of three years. The Rev. Ralph Lindsay, pastor of the United Church, will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

Grant W. Pfister, 78, of Eustis, Fla., former resident of Niles died Thursday afternoon in his Florida home. He had been ill since Tuesday.

He is survived by his widow, Anna; five children, Elmer of Flint, Mrs. W.E. McLain, Marshall; Roger, Mrs. Armond Baird, and Mrs. Oscar Schrumpf, all of Niles. Also surviving are his stepchildren, Mrs. W.W. Lanchon, and Mrs. Willard Seeger, both of Detroit, and Harry Hoolscher, Chicago, and one sister, Mrs. Flo Brump, Sidney, O.

Pfister was born July 4, 1876, in Piqua, O., and came to Niles from Michigan City in 1920 where he lived until moving to Florida in 1946. He was a retired New York Central railroad engineer.

Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home after 7 p.m. Monday, services will be held in the chapel at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. T.M. Greenhoe, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Hayes, Thomas F. 1884-1955

Thomas F. Hayes, 70, of rural route four, Cassopolis (Penn Township), died Wednesday night at home after a six-moth illness.

Born Nov. 12, 1884 at Fall River, Mass., he came to the area from Syracuse, Ind., a year ago. He was employed by the Bendix Aviation Co., 15 years and A.O. Smith corp., Milwaukee, Wis., before retiring.

He is survived by his widow, Jeanette.

Friends may call at the Kiger Funeral Home where the rosary will be recited at 8 p.m. Friday. Services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church by the Rev. Lawrence Davis, church pastor. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

INFANT DIES

Wayne Robert Thomas, born Wednesday to Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Thomas, 1718 Cass Street, at Pawating Hospital, failed to survive.

Beside the parents, survivors are a sister, Shari, and a brother, William, both at home; the paternal grandmother, Mrs. C. Thomas of Niles, and maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. William Roberts of Niles.

Committal services were conducted this afternoon at Silverbrook Cemetery by the Rev. L. George Beacock, pastor of the First Methodist Church.
