Robert A. Lewis, Sr. (“Tony”), 54, of Niles, Mich., passed away on Aug. 26, 2013.

Survivors include his children, Tiffany Lewis, of South Bend, Ind., and Robert A. (Abby) Lewis, Jr., of Chicago, Ill.; grandchildren Brennden Keen, of Niles, and Eiva Vedia, of South Bend; mother, Marie Lewis, of Niles; and siblings Patricia (Roy) Turbett, of Williamston, Mich., and Geary (Ann) Shaw, of Niles.

A private memorial service is planned.

Mary Helen (Davis) Boggs, 69, of Statesville, N.C., formerly of Niles, passed on Wednesday, July 17, 2013 at Iredell Memorial Hospital in North Carolina.

She was born Aug. 30, 1943 to the late Russell and Marion Davis, also of Niles. On April 30, 1988 she married Boyd Lynn Boggs of Statesville, who survives.

Mary Helen had one brother, Kenneth (Blanche) Davis, of South Bend, Ind., who also survives.

Children include Thomas Parks, Tracey Krassow, Daniel Nutting, Mary Ann (Dennis Crouch) and Tammy Focht of Niles. She has 11 grandkids and 12 great-grandkids.

Cremation has taken place. A small service for family and friends is pending. Mary Helen will be laid to rest by her parents’ side in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Annie LaFaye “Faye” Moody, age 74 of Niles, Mich., died at 9:51 a.m. on Sunday, October 6, 2013 at Saint Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka, Indiana unexpectedly, but of natural causes.

She was born on April 2, 1939 in Ridgely, Tenn., to Bernard and Francis (Brown) McAlister. She attended Dyersburg (Tennessee) High School, and has lived in Niles since 1956. She was employed for ten years at the former Simplicity Pattern Company in Niles.

Faye was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Niles. She enjoyed cooking large southern meals for all the family, and making her famous banana pudding. But her greatest interest was caring for her family, especially the grandchildren.

On Oct. 5, 1956 in Corinth, Mississippi she married Tyree H. Moody with whom she celebrated last year the fifty-sixth anniversary of their wedding. Tyree preceded her in death just twelve days ago, on Sept. 24, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, and by her infant brother, James Roy McAlister.

Faye is survived by her daughters, Carol (and Chris) King and Jodie (and Trent) Nichols, both of Niles; grandchildren Angie (and Toby) Mann, Amy (and Andy) Chodzinski, Autumn and Amber Moody; great-grandchildren Blake Mann and Kyle Mann; and her sister, Wanda Hall of Dyersburg; and Tyree’s brother, Acie (and Pat) Moody, and sisters Hazel Farley, and Gladys (and William) Gordon; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral service for Faye Moody will be at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at Bethel Baptist Church with the Rev. Randy Pearman of the church officiating. Committal will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles. Contributions in memory of Faye may be made to Bethel Baptist Church.

Fisher, Evelyn E. (Burch)

Evelyn E. Fisher, age 95 years, formerly of Niles, died at 1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013 at the Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, Ga. following a brief illness.

She was born on March 16, 1918 in South Bend, Ind. to Lawrence and Cuba (Stanton) Burch. She was graduated from Tyner (Indiana) High School, and moved to a home on the Morris Farm in Niles in 1938, where she lived the rest of her life.

Evelyn was a longtime member of the North Salem Church of God of the Abrahamic Faith in Plymouth, Ind. In Niles, she was a member of the former Trinity United Methodist Church on Ironwood and its Primetimers, and has attended Wesley United Methodist Church in Niles and the Nottawa (Michigan) United Methodist Church. She was also a member of the Michigan Farm Bureau, the former Centre Meeting House and the Home Economics club in the Morris neighborhood. She enjoyed tending her vegetable and flower gardens, and traveling throughout the United States and Canada.

On Nov. 26, 1938 at the North Salem Church she married Harvey L. Fisher, Jr. with whom she celebrated the 42nd anniversary of their wedding prior to his death on Aug. 25, 1981. She was also preceded in death by brothers Norman, Vernon and Warren Burch, and sisters Lois Fritz and Velma Parrish.

Surviving family include her sons, Henry (Clara) Fisher of Lawrenceville, Georgia and Glenn (Victoria) Fisher of Sturgis, Mich.; grandchildren Randall (Toni) Fisher, Kendall (Kelli) Fisher, Dale Harvey (Nichole) Fisher and Christopher Glenn (Estella Ortez) Fisher; great-grandchildren Ruthanne, Joybeth, Marylynne, Harrison, Anderson, Arwen, Maylen Griffin, Glenn Dale II, Aiyana and an honorary great-grandchild, Abigale. Also surviving are Evelyn’s brothers and sister, Roy (Joyce) Burch of Glendale, Ariz., Larry Burch of Rochester, Ind., Martha Ullrey of Fla. and Ernest Burch of Memphis, Tenn.; many nieces and nephews and a special friend, Jerry Stults.

The funeral service for Evelyn Fisher will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with the Rev. Cathi Huvaere of Wesley United Methodist Church officiating, assisted by Pastor Alexander R. Miller of Nottawa United Methodist Church. Committal will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Evelyn may be made to donor’s choice.

Shirley Elaine Kloko, age 89 of Niles, Michigan died on Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2013 at Lakeland Community Hospital in Niles following a brief illness. She was born Sept. 26, 1924 in Niles to Charles & Elsie (Beringer) Dreibelbis.

Shirley graduated from Niles High School in 1942 and attended Hope Community Church in Niles.

On Sept. 6, 1947 she married Dale Richard Kloko, he preceded her in death on July 3, 2000. She was also preceded in death by daughter Karen Waldron, who died in 1993, a son, David Kloko, who died in December of 2011, and grandson, Erik Bartel, who also died in 2011 and a brother, Charles Dreibelbis.

Shirley is survived by daughter Cheryl (& Terry) Bartel of Fredonia, Wisconsin and son Dik (& Lucy) Kloko of Kalamazoo, Michigan, grandson Michal Kloko and granddaughter Marisa (& Aaron) Childers and great-granddaughter Isabelle.

Funeral services for Shirley Elaine Kloko will be held at 3 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 8, 2013 at the Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles with Pastor Jeffery L. Whittaker of the Michiana Christian Embassy officiating. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery at a later date.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2013 at the funeral home.

Rose was born on April 12, 1929 to Salvatore and Antonia Murabito in Chicago, IL. On December 8, 1973 Rose married John Sebert.
She is survived by her children; Virgil (Phyllis) Warner of Niles, Catherine (Al) Syrette of Buchanan, Sam (Carolyn) Warner of Murray, Kentucky, Judith (Jim) Denno of Niles, Sandra “Warner” Goodman of Niles, Curtis (Lita) Warner of Murray, Kentucky, and David (Linda) Warner of Muncie, Indiana, one sister Marie (John) Fowler of Florida, 17 grandchildren, 39 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Rose is preceded in death by her parents, and her husband John Sebert.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at Hoven Funeral Home with visitation one hour before the service and Pastor Leonard Bailey from the Church of the Nazarene in Buchanan officiating. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

Phillips, Richard E.

Richard E. Phillips, 83, of Niles

Richard E. Phillips, age 83 years of Niles, Michigan passed away with his daughters Carol Jean Beavo and Tamela Phillips at his bedside at 12:58 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at the Lakeland Specialty Hospital in Berrien Center, Michigan following an extended illness.

Prior to his retirement Richard was employed as a manager at the former MAB Store and also at the former National Food Store in Niles.

Richard enjoyed painting, woodworking and gardening. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, was a member of American Legion Post #26 in Niles, and of the Barron Lake Association.

Richard was preceded in death by his wife, Audrey Phillips on Nov. 10, 2009.

No public services will be offered. Burial was completed at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

Contributions in memory of Richard may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
