Niles News In Brief:  CORWIN RITES HELD TUESDAY

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Louisa E. Corwin, 90, a former resident of Niles, who died Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ida Sander, St. Joseph, were conducted Tuesday afternoon at the Sander home.  Burial was in Silverbrook cemetery here. Mrs. Corwin was born in Niles, Nov. 11, 1855, and was the widow of Myron Corwin, who she married in 1875.  Survivers, besides the daughter, are four sisters―Mrs. Joseph Cuddeback, Niles; Mrs. Bert Powers, Hartford; Mrs. C.L. Dilley, Berrien Springs, and Mrs. Albert Kuppernus, Elkhart, and a brother, Edward Benhard, Niles.

Charles A. Johnson, Ex-Niles Man, Dies

 

Charles A. Johnson, 538 East Thirty-fourth street, Chicago, died Monday afternoon at his home after a prolonged illness.

Mr. Johnson was born in Niles, Feb. 8, 1865, but for the last 25 years had been a resident of Chicago.

Besides his widow, Bertie H. Johnson, he is survived by one son, Alfred A. Johnson, of Niles.

Funeral services will be held in Chicago Thursday morning and the body will be brought to Silverbrook cemetery, Niles, for burial.

Niles News In Brief:  FORMER RESIDENT BURIED

 

The body of Charles A. Johnson, 80, former resident of Niles, was brought to Niles from Chicago today and burial was in Silverbrook cemetery, where a brief prayer service was held.  Mr. Johnson was the father of Alfred H. Johnson, of Niles.  He leaves also one grandson, John Johnson, of Niles.  The Rev. Harry L. Nicholson officiated at the service in Silverbrook.

Niles News In Brief:  TOM KELLEY STRICKEN

 

Funeral arrangements for Tom Kelley, 46, a former employe at The Grill, have not been announced. Mr. Kelley died at 9:30 this morning at Pawating hospital. He was taken to the hospital Monday suffering from serious complications that proved fatal. He had been working until about a week ago.  He leaves no close relatives.

Niles News In Brief:  FORMER RESIDENT DIES

 

Mrs. Augusta Knoll, who was born in Niles and lived here during her early life, died Wednesday at her home on Indiana avenue, Chicago.  Announcement of her death was received by her counsin[sic], Mrs. Arza G. Ball, 1101 North Fifth street.  Mrs. Knoll's body will be brought to Niles for burial in Silverbrook cemetery Saturday. Mrs. Knoll's husband, Frank Knoll, ded three years ago and is buried at Silverbrook. She leaves two daughters and a son.

Niles News In Brief:  INFANT'S RITES TODAY

 

Brief prayer and burial services will be held at 4 o'clock this afternoon from the Rutherford-Phillips mortuary for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clem Merrill, 810 Lake street.  The Rev. O.T. Lee will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

MRS. ARTHUR MOORE DIES AT FARM HOME
Was Widely known in Howard Township in Cass; Lived Near Barron Lake.

 

Mrs. Lottie E. Moore, who had lived in the Howard township community all her life, died Sunday night at 5:15 o'clock at her home. Mrs. Moore had been ill for several weeks. She was 55 years old.

Mrs. Moore was, before her marriage, Feb. 24, 1909, Miss Lottie Lamberton, the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Alonzo Lamberton, widely known in the Barron lake community.

Surviving are her husband, Arthur Moore, and two children, Mrs. Ned Watkins and Ralph Moore.

Mrs. Moore was born in Howard township Jan. 16, 188. She was known throughout the community east of Barron lake where she had spent her entire life.  She was a member of the Pokagon chapter of the Eastern Star, of the Niles Methodist church, and of the Gleaners.

The body will be at the family home until the hour of the funeral which will be held at the Price and Kiger funeral home Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. The Rev. T. O. Lee will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

 

 

 

Orr, Walter B.

Walter B. Orr, Retired Farmer, Dies This A.M.

 

Walter B. Orr, who had lived in Niles for more than 70 years, died at 7:30 o'clock this morning in Pawating hospital.  Mr. Orr had been ill about five weeks.  His death was caused by an infection. He was 74 years old.

Mr. Orr was born in Eagle, Wis., Oct. 24, 1861, and came to  Niles with his parents when he was about two years old. He was a retired farmer and since his retirement from active work had lived with his sister, Mrs. Fannie B. McBain, 8 North St. Joseph avenue. Mrs. McBain is his only living relative.

The body was taken to the Price and Kiger funeral home, where services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.  The Rev. Harry L. Nicholson, rector of Trinity Episcopal church, of which Mr. Orr was a member, will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
