GEORGE A. UMHOLTZ DIES OF ILLNESS

Passes at Home of Daughter, Mrs. Edward Steinbauer; Aged Nearly 80

 

George A. Umholtz, who had lived in Niles for th e last 56 years, died Tuesday night at 9:20 o'clock in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edward Steinbauer, 444 South St. Joseph avenue. Mr. Umholtz was 79 years, 11 months old.  His death followed a year of failing health.

Mr. Umholtz was born in Liverpool, Pa., in 1856.  He came to Niles 56 years ago from Pennslvania[sic] and was a retired farmer and a former employe of the French Paper company.

He leaves one son, Charles, and two daughters, Mrs. Steinbauer and Mrs. Howard Nieb, and three grandchildren, Charles Steinbauer, Mrs. Fred Solloway and George Edward Nieb, all of Niles.

Mrs. Umholtz died four years ago and a son, Will, died in 1934.

Mr. Umholtz was a member of the Modern Woodman, which he joined 44 years ago.

Services will be held in the Turner-Pifer funeral home Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Dr. G.W. Simon officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

The Rev. Dr. G.W. Simon will officiate at the services for George A. Umholtz who died Tuesday night in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Edward Steinbauer.  The services will be in the Turner-Pifer funeral home at 2 o'clock Friday afternoon.  Pall bearers will be Thomas Graham, Perley J. Steinbauer, William Dittmer, Roland Vincent, John Lagoni and Guy Thompson.  Mr. Umholtz leaves his son, Charles, two daughters., Mrs. Steinbauer and Mrs. Howard Nieb; three grandchildren, Charles Steinbauer, Mrs. Fred Solloway and Mrs. Edward Nieb; and two great grandchildren, Teddy and David Steinbauer, also a sister, Mrs. Fred Vetter, south of Niles, who is the only surviving . . .
