Monthly Meetings

The Friends of Silverbrook Cemetery meet the third Thursday each month at 7 p.m. at the Niles Law Enforcement Center, located at Main St and Silverbrook Ave.

In addition to discussing progress made with our restoration and education projects, we feature a Guest Speaker. Past speakers have given talks about the history of Niles, gravestone restoration, and biographies of leading citizens. Many of our members also have interests in genealogy and local history. Members, nonmembers, and guests are always welcome to attend at no cost.

January 21, 2010 Open House

Bob Nightingale Monthly Meetings January 17, 2010

Thursday January 21, 2010 at 6 p.m. (an hour earlier than our regularly scheduled Monthly Meeings), we will have have an Open House at the Law Enforcement Complex in Niles, located at Silverbrook Ave. and Main Street. We will showcase our accomplishments for the past year, including what we have done on our Beautifcation and Restoration projects, the Silverbrook Legacies article series in the Niles Daily Star, and expansion of our website. This will be an opportunity to meet the current and future volunteers!

As always, our meetings are open to the public. Coffee and refershments will be served.

November 2009 Monthly Meeting

Bob Nightingale Monthly Meetings October 16, 2009

Our next Monthly Meeting will be Thursday November 19 at 7 p.m. at the Law Enforcement Complex in Niles. The meeting after that will be on Thursday December 17. We are planning to continue meeting this winter, as weather permits! Watch this space for changes and updates.

In addition to on-going business, we are looking for speakers on the topics of local history, cemeteries, genealogy, and other topics of interest to our members and the community. If you have ideas or would like to present, please contact us at president@friendsofsilverbrook.org. As always, our meetings are open to the public.

July 2009 Monthly Meeting

Bob Nightingale Monthly Meetings July 13, 2009

Friends of Silverbrook Cemetery will hold its July meeting this Thursday night, July 16th, at 7pm at the Law Enforcement Center. Come and see some of Candace's notebooks and pictures of recent stone restorations. The guys just repaired a really large, damaged marker, using a tripod to lift the whole thing! Also we will have pictures of the John Gipner garden, planted by the Four Flags Garden Club. It is awesome!

June 2009 Monthly Meeting

The Friends of Silverbrook Cemetery monthly meeting will be held Thursday, June 18th, 6-8pm at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends volunteers be available to assist in locating gravesites, demonstrate the cleaning of headstones and restoration repairs of broken stones.

Walking Tour brochures and printed cemetery maps will be located at the main entrance.

The Friends of Silverbrook Cemetery monthly meeting will be held Thursday, May 21 at 7 pm.
at the Law Enforcement Complex, 1500 Silverbrook .

A National Geographic DVD on Arlington National Cemetery will be presented. All are
welcomed to attend.
