The Friends of Silverbrook will meet from 6 to 7:30 pm on Thursday, July 21st at the cemetery and will be available to help visitors locate grave sites.
We will also demonstrate methods of cleaning headstones and restoring broken headstones.
The Friends of Silverbrook Cemetery meet the third Thursday each month at 7 p.m. at the Niles Law Enforcement Center, located at Main St and Silverbrook Ave.
In addition to discussing progress made with our restoration and education projects, we feature a Guest Speaker. Past speakers have given talks about the history of Niles, gravestone restoration, and biographies of leading citizens. Many of our members also have interests in genealogy and local history. Members, nonmembers, and guests are always welcome to attend at no cost.

Preserving Our Heritage From Stone to the Internet
Peter & Anita Frucci Rodgers
Anita and her husband, Peter, former Niles residents, began their search for their family histories in 2001. With the help of family records, local libraries, family history centers and the Internet. Anita's talk will cover finding obituaries, burial sites, proper cleaning techniques of memorial stones, taking good photographs, and adding the findings to the Internet in order to preserve them for future generations.
The next monthly meeting of the Friends of Silverbrook Cemetery will be at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 17th at the Law Enforcement Complex at 1600 Silverbrook Ave. in Niles.
De Beaumont, Regent of the Rebecca Dewey Chapter of the DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) will be the speaker. DAR is the largest women's service organization in the United States and supports a wide variety of educational, historical, and patriotic projects. She will be talking about the work of the DAR both nationally and locally, about membership criteria, and about the assistance available from DAR and its members in family research for potential members.
The meeting is open to the public and there is never a charge to attend one of the meetings of the Friends of Silverbrook.
