Monthly Meetings
The Friends of Silverbrook Cemetery meet the third Thursday each month at 7 p.m. at the Niles Law Enforcement Center, located at Main St and Silverbrook Ave.
In addition to discussing progress made with our restoration and education projects, we feature a Guest Speaker. Past speakers have given talks about the history of Niles, gravestone restoration, and biographies of leading citizens. Many of our members also have interests in genealogy and local history. Members, nonmembers, and guests are always welcome to attend at no cost.
The Friends of Silverbrook Cemetery will not be meeting this Thursday June 21 at the Law Enforcement Complex in Niles. Instead, the members have been invited to a private tour at one of the local cemeteries.
If you would like to join us, please contact Candace Skalla at 269-684-2455 for time and car pool meeting place.
Thursday, May 17, at 7:00 p.m. at Silverbrook Cemetery.
Friends of Silverbrook and Rebecca Dewey Chapter DAR will have a short program and ceremony to dedicate the new gravemarker for one of our War of 1812 veterans.
Hiram Chilson, 1797-1889, was also the son of the Revolutionary War soldier buried at Silverbrook, Ezra Chilson, and was one of Niles' earliest settlers. His grave had remained unmarked until this year when we were able to obtain a veteran's gravemarker from the Veteran's Administration.
We will meet at the main gate at 7:00 p.m. and proceed to the gravesite from there!
The Friends of Silverbrook Cemetery monthly meeting will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, April 19th at the Law Enforcement Complex, 1600 Silverbrook Ave. in Niles.
