Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday in the Pifer Funeral Home here for John Edward Burham[sic], 51, of Monroe, La., formerly of Niles, who died March 9. Dr. T.M. Greenhoe, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Burham, a salesman, moved to Monroe about six years ago. Surviving are: a daughter, Miss Linda Burham and a son, John Burham, both of Flint and a sister, Mrs. Jack Cohen, of Monroe.

Funeral services were held today in the Pifer Funeral Home here for Ellen [sic] Marie Black, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Black, 2577 Lake Shore Drive, who was stillborn at 6:28 a.m., Sunday in Pawating Hospital. Dr. T.M. Greenhoe, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiated and burial was in Silverbrook Cemetery. Surviving besides the parents are: the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. John McMeans, of San Antonio, Tex., and Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Black, of Benton Harbor.

 Note: Name of child is Elaine on cemetery records.

Committal rites were held at 1:30 p.m. today at Silverbrook Cemetery for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer Cole, 1107 Edwards Street, who was stillborn at 2:41 p.m. Monday in Pawating Hospital. Dr. T.M. Greenhoe, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiated.

Gary Lee Courser, Aged Six, Dies in Chicago Hospital

Gary Lee Courser, six-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Courser, rural route two, died Monday afternoon at Billings hospital, Chicago, after an illness of three weeks.

He was born in Niles April 15, 1939 and attended the South side school. He is survived by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Rolla Chapman, Pokagon, and Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Courser, Niles. Three sisters, Barbara, Arvilla, and Erma also survive.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. L. George Beacock will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Dickeson, Viola 1878-1945

Mrs. Dickeson, 67, Dies Thursday at Berrien Center

Mrs. Viola Dickeson, 609 Cass street, died at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Berrien Center hospital. She had been ill since July. Mrs. Dickeson was born in Buchanan 67 years ago and lived in Niles for 31 years.

Surviving is her husband, Burt, four sisters, Mrs. Gertrude Preist, Montana; Mrs. Alice Sams, Pontiac; Mrs. Pearl Hennson, Mio, Mich. And Mrs Erma Sinkenga, Idaho; and three brothers, Claude and George Slate, both of Kalamazoo and Harry E. Slate, East Jordan, Mich.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home where services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday. W.F. Putnam will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.



 

Fox, John Martin 1868-1946

Niles Resident 50 Years, John Fox Dies in Hospital

John Martin Fox, 78, 1113 Maple Street, died today at 6 a.m. in the Berrien Center hospital, after an month's illness. Born in Milton township, Cass county, he lived in Niles for 50 years.

He is survived by his wife, Jessie; three daughters, Miss Janet Fox, Chicago, and Mrs. John Loos and Mrs. Alonzo Statler, Niles, a son, Charles Fox, route two, and nine grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral home where services will be conducted Monday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. L. George Beacock, pastor of the First Methodist church.

 

Goodman, Rev. James Francis 1880-1945

Rev. Goodman, 65, Dies Friday at Kendallville, Ind.

The Rev. James Francis Goodman, 65, died Friday at the McCray memorial hospital, Kendallville, Ind., after being ill with pneumonia for about three weeks. He served as Baptist minister in Niles from 1934-1937.

Goodman was born in Canada Feb. 22, 1880 and came to the U.S. at the age of 14. He was educated at Kalamazoo College and at the Baptist Theological seminary in Louisville, Ky.

He married Myrtle B. Brooks of Oscoda, Mich. Oct. 2 1906. She survives. Other survivors are a brother, Joseph, of Kalamazoo; and two children, Monica Willard, of Niles and Paul J. Goodman, of Inkster. Goodman finished his ministerial work with an eight year pastorate at the Wolcottville and Rome city Baptist churches in Indiana.
