MRS. GEORGE AMON IS STRICKEN ON DAY OF HER 68TH BIRTHDAY

NILES – Mrs. Alice Amon, 105 S. Barrett street, wife George Amon died this morning at 3 o’clock, a victim of pneumonia. Today marks the sixty-eighth anniversary of her birth.   Mrs. Amon became ill while in South Bend and was sick for three weeks.  She was brought to her home in Niles about a week ago.

Mrs. Amon's maiden name was Alice Weaver. She was born in Germany, Dec. 15, 1860. When she was eight years of age she was brought to Niles by her parents and had since resided her. Her marriage to Mr. Amon took place in Niles.

Besides the husband, Mrs. Amon is survived by eight children, her death being the first in the family circle. The surviving children are Mrs. Alice Lockey of South Bend; Mrs. Frank Archambeault of Waukegan, Wis.; Mrs. George Radewald and Fred Amon, Niles, Roy, Janesville, Wis.; Mrs. Elmer Weltzien, Niles; Mrs. Hus. Bernahl, Detroit, and William Amon, of Elkhart.   One brother, Fred Weaver and one sister, Mrs. George Schaeffer, both of Niles survive, also 18 grandchildren.

The funeral services will be held Tuesday afternoon although the complete arrangements have not been made pending the arrival of the children. One of the daughters, Mrs. Lockey, left a South Bend hospital today with her infant child.

FUNERAL MRS. GEO. AMON

Rev. W. Keith Chidester, rector of Trinity Episcopal church, conducted the funeral services this afternoon for Mrs. George Amon at the home, 106 Barrett street.  Friends of Mr. Amon among the German Workingmen's association served as pallbearers. Burial was in Silverbrook cemetery.

Helen J. Ames

July 15, 1912-Aug. 2, 1994

NILES - Helen J. Ames, 82, of 531 Broadway, died at 10:25 a.m. Tuesday, in Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis. She had been owner-operator of Helen's Beauty Shop. Mrs. Ames was born on July 15, 1912, in Stanton, Mich., and had lived most of her life in the Niles area. In June 1936, she married Victor Munroe. He died in April 1950. On Sept. 9, 1951, in Detroit, she married Robert E. Ames. He died on Dec. 31, 1977. She is survived by three daughters, Jennifer Ray and Joy Smith, both of Niles and Jill Smith of McCall, Idaho; a son, Jack Munroe of Fort Walton Beach, Fla.; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Alger Palmer of Niles. Mrs. Ames was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and Watson Plate Collectors Club.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Pets Alive.

Theo R. Allen

Nov. 14, 1910 - Dec. 31, 1998

NILES - Theo Richmond Allen, 88, of 701 Sycamore St., died Thursday in his home of natural causes. Survivors include his wife, Ollie; five daughters, DeVonna Lane of Northville, Mich., Patricia Cooper of Tallahassee, Fla., and Ioma Davis, Mary Unsicker and Rita Allen, all of Niles; three sons, Ivan, Wesley and Joseph, all of Niles; and a sister, Opal Cooper of Leachville, Ark. There will be no services or visitation. Private graveside services will be Tuesday in Silverbrook Cemetery. Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, is handling arrangements.

Adam W. Alexander

July 29, 1875 – March 3, 1949

NILES – Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m Saturday in the Pifer funeral Home for Adam W. Alexander 73, who died at his home on South Clark Street at 7 p.m. Thursday. He had been ill since First of November.

Born in Woodbury, TN, on July 29, 1875, he came here 25 years ago and was engaged in the trucking business.

Surviving are his wife, Luella; a son, Ray of Niles; four daughters, Mrs. W. M. Mahaffa and Mrs. Earl Haley of Niles, Mrs. Lonnie Eaton of Manchester, TN, and Mrs. Leon Hoyt of Detroit; six stepchildren, Mrs. Elsie Dubus of Niles, Mrs. Blanche Dinges of Galien, Mrs. Evelyn Gastiax of Detroit, Mrs. Joyce Null of South Bend; Peter Blanta Jr.  who is in Alaska with the Army and Robert Blanta of Norway, MI.

Two brothers also survive, Granville of Ft. Worth, TX and Allen of Woodbury, TN.

Funeral services will be conducted by the Rev. Roy Burgess pastor of the South Bend Church of Christ and burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call at the home until noon Saturday.

Millie Albright
Oct. 29, 1864 – March 22, 1954

THREE RIVERS – Millie (Burge) Albright, 80, died a 3 p.m. Monday in the home of her son at 1700 South Main Street, Three Rivers. She had been ill for two weeks, and her husband Ulysses, died in 1941.

Surviving are three sons, Clifford of Three Rivers, John of Niles and Frank Albright of South Bend; two daughters, Mrs. Otto Frenska of Marshfield, MO and Mrs. Lloyd Stull of South Bend, and 17 grandchildren.

She was born on Oct. 29, 1864 in Buchanan.

Friends may call in the Pifer Funeral Home where services will be held at 4 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. I. George Beacock, Methodist pastor, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Lowell C. Albright

July 9, 1918 – May 17, 1969

NILES – Lowell C. Albright, 50, of 2735 Madison Street, was dead on arrival at 9:40 a.m today in Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

     He was born July 9, 1918 in Darke County, Ohio and had lived her for the past 40 years coming from Ohio. Mr. Albright married the former LaVerne Parent Oct. 21, 1945 in Niles.

     Mr. Albright was employed as a car inspector for the Penn-Central Railroad. He was a veteran of World War II.

     In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, David and Richard at home; five sisters, Mrs. Virginia Jarvis, Indianapolis, Mrs. Helen Seitz of Niles, Mrs. Jack Leggett of Buchanan, Mrs. Edward Deslauries of South Bend and Mrs. Dena Burrows of Niles.

    Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in the Pifer Funeral Home with Rev. Arlan E. Schlundt, pastor of St. John United church of Christ, officiating. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call in the Pifer funeral Home after noon today.
