Mrs. Wilhelmina (Minnie) Davis, 84, died at 10:25 p.m. Sunday at her home, 1216 Phoenix Street, after an extended illness. She was born Aug. 1, 1873, in Niles.

Survivors include her husband, Ambrose; a son, Harold, and a daughter, Mrs. John Koons, both of Niles; 11 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Kiger Funeral Home where services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday,. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Harold Davis

Harold Davis, 62, of South Bend, formerly of Niles, died at 8:10 a.m. Thursday, in the Berrien County Hospital, Berrien Center, following an extended period of poor health.

Mr. Davis was born Aug. 11, 1896, in Niles. Surviving are: his father, Henry A. Davis, of Niles; five daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Dronso, and Mrs. Helen Deja, both of Milwaukee, Wis., Mrs. Elma Brewer, of Bertrand, and Mrs. Shirley Grice and Mrs. Maraget Osborn, both of Dowagiac; six sons, Harold L. and Lyle Dvis[sic], both of South Bend, Marion and Charles Davis, both of Milwaukee, Wis., Kenneth Davis, of Bertrand, and Jack Davis, of Niles; 49 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. John Koons, of Niles.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Pifer Funeral Home with Dr. Maurice McKean, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Clarence J. Vetter

Clarence J. Vetter, 61, of 512 Union street, chief inspector for the New York Central Railroad here for 35 years, died at 7:35 p.m. Saturday at Pawating Hospital following an illness of six years.

Vetter was born in Niles Township April 30, 1892, and lived here his entire life. He was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church here and past master and secretary of the Masonic Lodge. Surviving are: his wife, Bernice; two sons, Gale, College Station, Tex.,and Donald, San Juan, Puerto Rico; a brother, Frank, South Bend, and one grandchild.

Funeral serivces[sic] will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. John G. Carlton, rector, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kiger Funeral Home.

Bernice V. Vetter

NILES--Mrs. Bernice V. Vetter, 82, of 512 Union St., died at 5:30 a.m. Wednesday in Pawating Hospital after an illness of one month.

Born Aug. 16, 1892 in Niles, she lived here all her life. Her husband, Clarence J. Vetter, died June 20, 1953.

Mrs. Vetter was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, a life member of the White Shrine of Jerusalem, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Past Matrons' Club, and a member of the Pawating Hospital Auxiliary.

Surviving are two sons, Gale K. Vetter of Boulder, Colo., and Donald R. Vetter of Washington, D.C., and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Trinity Episcopal Church, with the Very Rev. Vincent J. Anderson officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call after 1 p.m. Friday at the Halbritter Funeral Home.

Mrs. James (Anna) McGuirk

Mrs. James McGuirk passed away yesterday afternoon about 5 o'clock at her home on north State street. Death resulted from septic material escaping from a boil, affecting the brain. Mrs. McGuirk was 54 years of age and is survived by a husband and four children. The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning from the residence at 10 o'clock, Rev. C.E. Marvin officiating. Interment at Silver Brook.

Four Persons Had a narrow Escape Last Evening

GIRL FARED WORST.

Four Occupant of a Rig Were Dashed Madly Along Main Street--Caused Great Commotion

Frank A. Davis, his wife and their little two-year old child, and Miss Grace, the 9 year-old daughter of Jas. McGuirk, were out for a drive last evening.

The party had just left the Main street bridge driving east, about 8:15 o'clock, when part of the harness broke startling the horse and causing a runaway.  Men rushed to the street and stopped the horse, "Doc" Carter and Blacksmith Thos. Kelley bringing it a halt. Mr. Kelly's right hand today is badly swollen from his experience, and Carter had one of his hands skinned.

The horse backed against the vehicle, kicked the dashboard clear over the buggy and splintered a cross piece. It was with the greatest difficulty that the occupants clung to the seat of the rig.

When in front of the Winter grocery the horse was stopped, and Chas. Knott lifted Mrs. Davis and her child to the ground. The McGuirk girl, whose mother died yesterday afternoon, was cut on  the head, the gash being two inches long and to the bone, and the severest feature is a contusion on the back.

Mr. Davis was kicked on the right arm and left leg, while Mrs. Davis, who held the child on her shoulders, received an injury to the knee. The little one escaped without a scratch. The injured went to the office office of Drs. Belknap and Tew and received treatment.

The affair created much excitement. The McGuirk girl is resting as comfortable as possible, and is considered out of danger.

William McGuirk

NILES--William McGuirk, 77, of 1309 Barron Lake Road, died at 2:10 a.m. today in Pawating Hospital after an illness of several months.

A retired employe of the Niles City Police Dept., Mr. McGuirk was born July 3, 1892, in Niles and had lived here all his life.  He was a veteran of WWI, serving with the Army.

Mr. McGuirk is survived by a niece, Mrs. Dorothy Bunker, Niles; a sister, Mrs. Adam Kinnfluy, Newport Richie, Fla., and a half-sister, Mrs. Belle Davis, Niles.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert M. Trenery of the Wesley United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.
