Eli Nicoloff, 74, 110 N. 4th St., died Wednesday morning in Pawating Hospital. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lou, who died in 1957.

Surviving is one daughter, Marie Evenoff in Bulgaria.

Mr. Nicoloff operated a restaurant in Niles for 25 years prior to his retirement in 1955.

The body is at the Pifer Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

NICOLOFF SERVICES

Funeral services for Eli Nicoloff, 74, 110 N. 4th St., will be held at 1:30 p.m., Friday in the Sts. Peter and Paul Serbian Orthodox Church, South Bend, with the Rev. Georfe Vukcovich officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Mr. Nicoloff died Wednesday morning in Pawating Hospital. His wife, Lou, died in 1957. Surviving is one daughter, Marie Evenof in Bulgaria.

Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home.

 

Lardner, Lena 1875-1960

Miss Lena Lardner, 85, one of nine children of Henry Lardner, pioneer resident of Niles, died at 2:15 a.m. Today in the Steinbarger Nursing Home on Fourth Street where she had been a patient for the past four years.

Miss Lardner was the sister of Ring Lardner, one of the most widely known short story writers of his era who died in his East Hampton, Long Island home on Sept. 25, 1933, at the age of 46.

Prior to her admittance to the nursing home, Miss Lardner lived at 103 S. 4th St., now the site of the Trinity Episcopal Church rectory. The property had been deeded to the church about two years ago by Miss Lardner.

For many years she served as organist at Trinity, retiring in 1947 or 1948. Following her retirement she was given the title of organist emeritus of the church where she had been a life member.

Miss Lardner was born in Niles on July 27, 1875, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Lardner. The old Lardner home still stands at 519 Bond St.

Surviving are: a sister, Mrs. R. G. Tobin, Dougleston, Long Island, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews, including Miss Ellen Lardner, 518 S. 3rd St., and Fred W. Lardner, Washington, D.C., George E. Lardner, Bayside, N.Y., Rex Lardner, New York City, and the son and two daughters of the R.G. Tobins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Monday in Trinity Church with the rector, the Rev. John G. Carlton, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends are being received at the Pifer Funeral Home.

 

Michelson, John B. 1913-1960

John Beverly Michelson, 57, 527 Eagle St., died at 4:50 a.m. Sunday in Pawating Hospital where he had been a patient since Aug. 23. He had been in failing health for six months.

Mr. Michelson was born June 7, 1913, in Benton Harbor and came to Niles in 1932 from South Bend. He was a member of the Modern Woodmen of the World.

Surviving are his father Andrew B. Michelson, Niles, and a sister, Mrs. Bernice Green, Chicago.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday in the Pifer Funeral Home with Elder M.V. Fleming of the Niles Seventh-day Adventist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemtery[sic]. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Cook, Margaret A. 1892-1960

Mrs Margaret A. Cook, 67, 1204 Cass St., died at 2:30 a.m. today in her home.

Mrs. Cook was born Dec. 25, 1892, in Wadena, Iowa, and came to Niles in 1943 from South Bend. She was a member of the order of Eastern Star. Her husband, Arthur, preceded her in death in 1956.

Surivors[sic] are a daughter, Miss Barbara Chester, South Bend; and two sister[sic], Mrs. Effie Trask and Mrs. Marie Bowers, both Pontiac.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Pifer Funeral Home wit the Rev. Gordon Everett, pastor of the First Evangelical United Brethern Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends will be received at the funeral home beginning Saturday.

TIME CHANGED

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. Monday in the Pifer Funeral Home for Mrs. Margaret A. Cook, 67, 1204 Cass St., who died early Friday in her home. The Rev. Gordon Everett, pastor of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Hour of the services had originally been set for 2 p.m. Monday.

SURVIVED BY BROTHER

Mrs. Margaret A. Cook, 67, 1204 Cass St., who died Aug. 26 at her home is survived by a foster brother, Paul Marker. His name inadvertently was omitted from a previous announcement of the death. Funeral services for Mrs. Cook were held today in the Pifer Funeral Home.

Obituary

Arlene Ann Brown, 83 of Niles, passed away in Spectrum Health Lakeland in Niles on Friday, April 22, 2022.

Arlene was born on December 27, 1938 in Niles to the late Aaron and Emma (Peterson) Lundgren.

On July 14, 1956 in Niles, she married Stevins Brown who passed away in 1993. She is also preceded by her daughter, Debra Smith and her brothers, Albert and Nels ‘Ted’ Lundgren.

Arlene is survived by her children; Becky (Daniel) Ochoa of Niles, Diane Ogle of Niles, grandsons, Jeff, Cros and James, granddaughters, Nicole, Aarin, and Hayley, great grandchildren Courtney, Molli, Sofia, Harrison, Benjamin, Remi and Axel, Great Great Grandson Ahlias and many nieces and nephews.

Arlene had a warm and caring heart.  She volunteered for many years at Lakeland Hospital in Niles. She loved her family above everything else. She was always there for them if they needed her. Arlene felt that her family was the greatest gift one could ever have.

A Memorial Service for Arlene will be on Friday, June 24, 2022 at  12 Noon at Halbritter Wickens 615 E. Main St. Niles.  The family will receive visitors from 10:00 am to  12 Noon.  Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

Luvability Ministries invites the Niles Community to Hope Church for a Celebration of Life service for Linnea McNeese.

Linnea passed away July 8, 2021, at the home of her daughter, Margie, in Arizona. Visitation with family and friends will be held from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the church located at 2390 Lake Street in Niles, Saturday, June 25, 2022. The Celebration of Life Service will begin at 2 p.m. with Rev. Sheryl Blake officiating. Linda Van Dyke, Luvability Ministries founder, will share a tribute to Linnea in honor of her many volunteer hours with Luvability.

We invite the disability community to share your support for Larry and memory of Linnea. Join us in the Celebration of Life Service for our friend.
