NILES--Aaron Jon Cox, one-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Cox, 1889 Baldwin Dr., died Saturday in Lajes Field Hospital, Azores, Portugal, where his father was stationed with the U.S. Air Force.

He was born Oct. 23, 1972, in Midwest City, Okla.

In addition to his father, Aaron is survived by his mother, Deborah; his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Don Cox of Niles; his maternal grandparents, Mr.and Mrs. William Taylor of Houston, Tex.; his paternal great-grandfather, H.W. Gallaway of Niles, and maternal great-grandmother, Mrs. Russell Granblett of Cashocton, Ohio, and his brother, Kenneth James III, at home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in the Pifer Chapel of Swem-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Irvine Nussdorfe of Westminister Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Silverbook Cemetery.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

NILES--Funeral serfices[sic] for Aaron Jon Cox, one-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Cox, 1889 Baldwin Dr., who did Saturday in Lajes Field Hosptial, Azores, Portugal, have been rescheduled for 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Pifer Chapel of the Swem-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. NILES--Mrs. Virginia Gessinger, 58, of 1332 Hickory St., died at 10:28 p.m. Saturday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, after an extended illness.

Born June 5, 1915, in Jamestown,Ind., Mrs. Gessinger had lived here all her life.  On Jan. 19, 1950, in Edwardsburg, she married Joe E. Gessinger St., who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, William Gents and Joe Gessinger Jr., both of Niles; a daughter, Mrs. Nancy Struble of Niles; a sister, Mrs. Gloria Walters of Niles, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Halbritter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Donald A. Cozadd of Grace United Methodist Church officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Berrien County Cancer Service.

MISHAWAKA--James R. Grimes, 61, of Mishawaka, formerly of Niles, died Saturday morning in the Cardinal Nursing Home, South Bend, after an extended illness.

Born Dec. 29, 1912, in Chicago, Mr. Grimes came to Niles in 1916. He was a graduate of Niles High School and a World War II veteran. His wife, the former Louise Seely, died in 1970.

Survivors include a son, Kenneth J. Grimes, and a daughter, Mrs. Michael (Janis) Smith, both of Mishawaka; two brothers, Thomas of South Bend and Franklin of Littleton, Colo.; four sisters, Mrs. Fred (Ruth) Cook of Niles, Mrs. Gwendolyn McDade of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Charles H. (Carolyn) Baldwin of Irvine, Calif., and Mrs. John W. (Betty) Barry of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in St. Monica's Church, Mishawaka, with burial in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

The Bobb Funeral Home is in charge of funeral arrangements.

HOLD PARREN FUNERAL

Funeral services were held at the Rutherford Funeral home this afternoon for Wayne Wilfred Parren, born Feb. 12 to Mr. and Mrs. Wilfred Parren, Niles township.  The baby died Saturday morning.   The Rev. W.H. Turner, pastor of the First Baptist church, conducted the services. Burial was in Silverbrook cemetery. The baby is survived by the parents, a sister, Ruth, 16 months, and grandparents, Mrs. and Mrs. James M. Moore, 1324 Oak street, Niles, and Mr. and Mrs. Albert Parren, Cassopolis.  Mrs. Wilfred Parren formerly was Ruth Moore.

 

Rossow, Emil Herman

NILES--Email "Emil" Herman Rossow, 79, of 219 N. Front St., died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Pawating Hospital after an illness of one month.

A retired employe of the water department at Kankakee, Ill., Mr. Rossow was born Jan. 9, 1895, in Great Bend, N.D., and had lived here for 15 years. On June 15, 1948, in Kankakee, he married the former Lilly May Leonard, who survives.

Also surviving are two sons, Vernon A. and Eldon, both of South Bend; a stepdaughter, Mrs. L.A. Berneau of Wichita, Kan.; a brother, Julius of Whapton, M.D., nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am. Saturday in the Pifer Chapel of the Swem-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Willis Weaver of the Niles Church of the Nazarene officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Schaub, Martha L.

HOLD SCHAUB FUNERAL

Committal services were conducted at Silverbrook cemetery this afternoon for Miss Martha Schaub, a former resident of Niles who died in a hospital in Chicago, Thursday night. She was the daughter of the  late Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Schaub. After the death of her father, her mother married Daniel Miller. Mrs. Miller died several years ago. Miss Schaub is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Pauline Statler, Chicago, and Mrs. L.E. Crews, Long Mont, Colo., who came to Niles with the body. Funeral services were held in St. Bartholomew Episcopal church at Chicago this morning. The rector of that church accompanied the body to Niles and officiated at the committal rites.

NILES--Mayme E. Schulte, 89, formerly of 10 S. St. Joseph Ave., died at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Bry-Fern Rest Home, Berrien Springs, after an extended illness.

Mrs. Schulte was born Oct. 23, 1884, in Berrien County, and had lived in this area all her life. Her husband, William, died in 1938.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the Halbritter Funeral Home, with the Rev. James B. Blair of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
