Charles Marshall, Ill Nine Years, Dies; Rites at 2 Friday

 

Charles G. Marshall, 83, died this morning at 12:15 in  his home at 506 Superior street after an illness of nine years.

Born in Robinson Station, Ky., April 27, 1860, he came to Niles 30 years ago from Galesburg, Ill., as shipping clerk for the Tower Cotton Mills.

Surviving are Mrs. Marshall, the former Hattie B. Dudley, to whom he was married Feb. 4, 1891, in Jackson; a daughter, Mrs. Ruth Neyland, Toledo, Ohio, and a sister, Mrs. Agnes Smith, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Friends may call in the Price and Kiger funeral home where rites will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 by the Rev. L.L. Lemons, pastor of the Second Baptist church. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Marshall Final Rites

The Rev. L.L. Lemons, pastor of the Second Baptist church,  officiated at funeral services in the Price and Kiger chapel Friday afternoon at 2 for Charles G. Marshall, 82.  Mr. Marshall, ill nine years, died Wednesday morning in his home at 506 Superior street. Burial was in Silverbrook cemetery.

DEWITT MATTHEWS, FATHER OF 11, DIES

 

Dewitt C. Matthews, 63, father of 11 children, died in his home at 117 Parkway this morning at 6:45 after a heart illness of six weeks.

A native of Morrison, Tenn., where he was born June 4, 1879, Matthews came here from Morrison about 15 years ago.  Surviving is his wife, the former Ida Bradshaw, to whom he was married June 26, 1902, in Manchester, Tenn.

The children include Earl, Buford, Homer, John, Fred and Glen Matthews, Mrs. Thomas Prater, Mrs. George Crumb and Mrs. Jess West, all of Niles; Pvt. Lawrence Matthews, Chanute field, Rantoul, Ill., and Pvt. Kenneth Matthews, Fort Warren, Wyo.

He also leaves two brothers and three sisters, Fred Matthews, Houston, Texas; Ernest Matthews, Fort Richard, Fla.; Mrs. M.E. Meyers, Morrison, Tenn.; Mrs. Nica Parks, Edna, Texas, and Mrs. Ross Zuber, Newport Richey, Fla.

Matthews Funeral at 3:30 Saturday


Funeral services for DeWitt C. Matthews, 117 Parkway, will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 3:30 in the Pifer funeral home by the Rev. J. Kenneth Hoffmaster, pastor of the Methodist church.
Mrs. Matthews, father of 11 children, died Thursday morning in his home. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Elizabeth Moody, Ill 3 Years, Dies

 

Mrs. Elizabeth Moody, 54, of 402 Brown street, died this morning at 1:45 in Pawating hospital after an illness of three years.

A resident of Niles since 1925, Mrs. Moody was the wife of Claude Moody. She was born in Elwood, Ind., Sept. 20, 1888.

Surviving with Mr. Moody are a sister, Mrs. Mary Hancock, and a brother, Lewis Startzman, both of Elwood.

Friends may call in the Price and Kiger funeral home where the service will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2. The Rev. J. Kenneth Hoffmaster, pastor of the Methodist church, will officiate with burial in Silverbrook cemetery.

Moody Funeral

Funeral services for Mrs. Elizabeth Moody, 402 Brown street, were conducted this afternoon at 2 in the Price and Kiger funeral home by the Rev. J. Kenneth Hoffmaster, pastor of the Methodist church. Burial was in Silverbrook cemetery. Mrs. Moody died Saturday morning in Pawating hospital.

Morton Baby Dies; Services Friday

 

Charles Lynn Morton, three months-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Morton, died Wednesday night at 8 in his home, 85 River street, after a day's illness.

The infant, an only child, was born Dec. 13, in Pawating hospital. Friends may call in the Pifer funeral home where services will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2:30.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Palmer, Floyd

FLOYD PALMER STRICKEN TODAY

 

Floyd Palmer .. [illegible]. .South Eleventh street, died in his home at 9:10 this morning. He had been ill about one week of a heart aliment[sic].

Palmer had been active in Niles approximately 24 years. He organized the Palmer transfer company shortly after entering the trucking and hauling business. He was born August 29, 1892, in Sumnerville and spent his entire life in the Niles area.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Eva Palmer and two sons at home--Charles and Clair and a sister Mrs. Malita Knauz, Detroit.

Friends may call at the Price and Kiger funeral home from Tuesday afternoon until 2 Wednesday, when the service will be held in the chapel. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Reed, Verbie

Mrs. Verbie Read[sic] Dies; Retes at 2 Friday Afternoon

 

Funeral services for Mrs. Verbie Reed, 57, of 221 1/2 North Second street, will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 in the Pifer funeral home. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Mrs. Reed, who had been ill since Sunday night, died at 11 Wednesday morning in the Berrien county hospital. She was born in Branch county, Michigan, Oct. 20, 1885, and was a member of the Niles Salvation Army post.

Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Delia Digman, Jackson; a soon, Vere, Arnold, at home; a daughter, Mrs. Wilma Dickson, Stafford, Conn., and a brother, Vere Digman, who lives in Ohio.

Friends may call in the Pifer funeral home.

 

Reum, Anna Catherine

MRS. ANNA REUM DIES; RITES FRIDAY

 

Mrs. Anna Catherine Reum, 67, who was born in Niles and had lived all her life, died Tuesday afternoon in her home at 910 Regent street after a two months' illness.

Born here April 23, 1875, she  was married in Niles April 17, 1906, to August F. Reum, who died April 20, 1935.

Surviving are a daughter, Miss Frieda Reum, Niles; a son, Armin Reum, Akron, Ohio; two step-sons, Herman and Louis Reum, both of Detroit, and seven grandchildren.

Friends may call in  the Rutherford funeral home where the service will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2. The Rev. Theo Eisen, pastor of St. John's Evangelical church, of which Mrs. Reum was a member, will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anna Catherine Reum, 910 Regent street, will be conducted Friday afternoon at 2 in the Rutherford funeral home. The Rev.
