Mrs. Emma Bowers, Widow, 68, Dies

Mrs. Emma Bower, 68, widow of Samuel Bower, died this morning at her home, 617 Pokagon street, She had been ill for many months.

Mrs. Bower was born in New Columbus, Ind., June 30, 1867. She leaves no near relatives.

Services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the Price and Kiger chapel. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Niles News In Brief: BOWER FUNERAL TUESDAY

Services for Mrs. Emma Bower, wife of Samuel Bower, will be held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock in the Price and Kiger funeral home. The Star was misinformed Saturday and stated that Mrs. Bower was the widow of Samuel Bower. Mr. Bower survives her.

Callighan, Henry Ward

H. Ward Callighan, 65, 3119 East Main street, died at 10:30 p.m. Thursday at his home after an illness of several years.  He is survived by his wife, Pearl.

Callighan was born May 25, 1886, in Niles and lived here all his life.  He was a papermaker at the French Paper company here.

He is also survived by two sons, Vance, of Ludington, Mich., Burr K. of Kalamazoo; two daughters, Mrs. William W. Lawler, Kalamazoo, Mrs. Frank Hover, Niles; one sister, Mrs. Robert Bamburg, Chicago, one brother, Olin W., Kalamazoo, and eight grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday in Kiger funeral home with the Rev. T.M. Greenhoe, pastor of the First Presbyterian church, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Chapman, Nancy E. (Hall)

Mrs. S. Chapman Dead

Mrs. Sam Chapman, 313 Huron street, died Sunday morning at 9:30 after a prolonged illness.   Mrs. Chapman was 68 years of age, having been born in Claine on December 15, 1859.   She spent her entire life practically in Berrien county.   She is survived by her husband and by seven sons.   The sons are George, Arthur, James, William, Edward, Roy and Earl, all residents of Niles except Arthur, who resides in Galien.   The funeral services will be held on Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home.   Rev. H. T. Scherer will officiate.   Burial will take place in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Chapman, Samuel

Sons of Samuel Chapman who died on Saturday afternoon at 1:15 at his home 313 Huron street will act as pallbearers at the funeral services tomorrow afternoon.   The services will be conducted by the Rev. G. W. Simon.   Burial will be made in Silverbrook cemetery where Mrs. Chapman, who died in 1927, is buried.   Mr. Chapman was born in Galien on December 18, 1854.   He had spent practically his entire life in Niles.   He is survived by seven sons who are James, William, Arthur, Edward, Roy, George and Earl, all of Niles, except Arthur who lives in Galien.   Mr. Chapman's death folllowed several months of illness.

 

Cook, Anna M.

Mrs. Anna M. Cook, rural route one, died at 6:30 a.m. today in Pawating hospital.  She had been ill for four years.

Surviving are her husband, Richard J.; two sisters, Mrs. Katherine Cuddeback and Mrs. Frieda Vogt, both of Niles, and three nieces and one nephew.

Mrs. Cook was born in Niles on Aug. 11, 1894, and had lived here all her life.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home.  Services will be conducted by the Rev. H. A. Meussling, pastor of St. John’s Evangelical and Reformed church, the date and time to be announced later.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Corwin, Myron

Myron M. Corwin
Aug. 20, 1854-Dec. 11, 1880

Myron M. Corwin, died at his residence in Berrien township, in this county, on Thursday, December 11th, 1880, aged 26 years, 3 months and 21 days. Mr. Corwin was afflicted with rheumatism and lung disease for the past two or three years, gradually growing worse, until death relieved him of his suffering. He leaves a wife and two small children to mourn his untimely end. His remains were intered[sic] in Silver Brook cemetery in this place on Saturday last. 

Note:  DOB/DOD from Gravemarker are Aug. 25, 1854-Dec. 16, 1880.  Cemetery record has only year for DOB/DOD and has Dec. 18 as DOI.
