Death of James Beall is deeply regretted by many.

Of sterling worth

James M. Beall died at the Pullman hospital, Michigan City, Friday night at 9:45.  Mr. Beall for many years an engineer on the Michigan Central railroad was injured Wednesday morning Dec. 15, by a collision of engines at a crossing Kensington, In, which his engine was derailed by a transfer engine.

He was carried to the Pullman hospital and while he was never able to speak, it is thought that he regained consciousness for some time and there had been hopes of his recovery.

An X-ray examination showed that the 8th vertebrae of the spine, being injured was the cause of death.

Mr. Beall was born on the old homestead in Niles Township, Northeast of the City, December 26 1869. He was a member of the Masonic order and the Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers.

He is survived by his widow, a stepson, Frank, two sisters, Miss Bertha Beall of this city and Mrs. J. E. Palethrope of Kokomo, IN, and a brother, Forest Beall of Deer River, Minn.

The body arrived her Saturday night and funeral services were held this afternoon at 2:30 from the Baptists Church. Interment was made in Silverbrook Cemetery in charge of the Masonic Order. Rev. D. G. Blair pastor of the Congregational Church of Michigan City, of which Mr. Beall was a member officiating.

Mr. Beall’s death has caused great sorrow to his many friends, all of whom speak highly of his sterling worth.Mr. Beall had recently completed a handsome bungalow on his property and had intended it as his future home plans had been made to entertain his family and friends at the Christmas dinner. He was to have gone on a three months vacation after the trip which proved fatal.He had started to work for the railroad 22 years, previous to the day of the accident. Which was upon his birthday.

Maybelle (Perry) Beall

Mrs. Maybelle E. Beall, 68, of 15 N. 7th St., died at 8 a.m. today in her home, following a one-month illness.

Born in Chicago, Ill., May 19, 1899, Mrs. Beall moved here from Wisconsin in 1918.

On Nov. 23, 1918, she married Harold Beall, in South Bend, Ind. He died Feb 28, 1943. 

She is survived by a son, Donald of Brookfield, Mass; a daughter, Miss Nancy J. Beall of Niles; two grandchildren, a great-grandson, and a bother, Clifford Perry of Ispheming.

Funeral services will conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Halbritter-Swem Funeral Home with the Rev. John Wyngarden pastor of the First Presbyerian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 7 p.m. Friday.

Melvina Beall
Feb. 2, 1921

Body will be brought to Niles from South Bend for burial Saturday.

Mrs. L. J. Krell received word this afternoon of the death of Mrs. Melvina Beall, which occurred this morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harry Broderick (Viva Beall) in South Bend. Mrs. Beall’s death followed a prolonged illness, during which her life was despaired of many times.

The funeral services will be held in South Bend Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock. The body will be brought to Niles for burial in Silver Brook Cemetery.

Mrs. Beall was 74 years of age. She formerly resided for many years on a farm on Lake Street and was highly esteemed in the community. She is survived by one daughter, and by one son, also by two sisters, Mrs. Emma Duffy of Chicago and Mrs. Mary Beall of Bay City. Hardy Langston of this city is a nephew of the deceased. The late Mr. Beall was a brother of S.S. Beall of West Niles.

Mrs. Krell, who numbered Mrs. Beall among her intimate old friends, will go to South Bend tomorrow.

Lillian M. (Olmstead) Beall
June 6, 1867 – Dec. 22, 1949

JACKSON, Dec. 23 – Mrs. Lillian M. Beall, 82 of Jackson, a former Niles resident, died yesterday at 10:35 p.m. at the home her of her daughter, Mrs. Edwin S. Williams, after an illness of several years.

Mrs. Beall was born June 8, 1867, in Milton Township, Cass County the daughter of William and Sarah Olmstead. She married Frank Beall who died in 1915 and lived in Niles until Dec. 24, 1942, when she moved to Jackson to live with her daughter.

Surviving besides Mrs. Williams are two other daughters, Mrs. Genevieve Porter of India, Cal., and Mrs. Clay Young of San Antonio, Tex; and three sons, Lloyd of Northville, Mich., Irl of Cleveland, O and Merwin of San Antonio, Tex.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

Roy F. Beam
Nov. 3, 1903-Jan. 1, 1995

NILES - Roy F. Beam, 91, of 911 S. Third St., died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday in Silverbrook Manor after an illness. Mr. Beam had been service manager of the former Buick dealership in Niles and had a service garage at his home at Barron Lake. He also was retired from Studebaker Corp., South Bend. He was born Nov. 3, 1903, in Logansport, Ind. On Oct. 16, 1935, in Chicago, he married Mildred Isaac. She died June 12, 1976. On Dec. 14, 1977, in Niles, he married Eva K. Billett Megaughey. She died April 14, 1991. Surviving are a brother, William T. of Indianapolis; a great-niece, Ruth Melinda Frank of Logansport; and a great-great-niece, Kristen M. Frank of Logansport. He was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Thursday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call after 2 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Little Sisters of the Poor at St. Augustine, Indianapolis.

Ada C. Beckwith
June 10, 1954

BERRIEN SPRINGS – Mrs. Ada C. Beckwith, 85 of Berrien Springs, died in St. Joseph Hospital, South Bend Thursday. She was the widow of the late Dougal Rodney Beckwith. Survivors include the daughter with whom she lived, Mrs. Arthur Beebe of Berrien Springs, another daughter, Mrs. Lyda Syson of South Ben; a son, William Beckwith of Elkhart; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Sophropia Gerhart of South Bend.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. today in South Bend. Burial was in Silverbrook Cemetery.
