Lois J. Haynes

Mrs. Lois J. Haynes, 75, of South Bend, IN passed away February 18, 2009 in South Bend, IN. 

Born October 27, 1933, in Fort Wayne, IN, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Rose (Traubant) Weschgel.  On June 26, 1954, she married Henry Clay Haynes.  He preceded her in death May 29, 2005. She was also preceded in death by her beloved son, Gregory C. Haynes on October 29, 2008.

Lois is survived by one daughter, Tracie (Brett) Day, of South Bend, IN; daughter-in-law, Karla Haynes of South Bend; and four grandchildren, Patricia J. and Clayton T. Haynes and William Z. and Scarlett S. Day, all of South Bend, IN.

Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. on Friday, February 20, 2009 at the McGann Hay, University Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Rd., South Bend, IN. Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, MI.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

June L. Haynes
June 26, 1931-June 5, 2004

June L. Haynes, 72, of North 15th Street, Niles,  died Saturday, June 5, 2004, in Meadowview Estates, Penn Township, after an illness.  She was born June 26, 1931. Survivors include two daughters, Ellen Haynes of Elkhart and Sheila Haynes of Eureka, Calif.; a son, Glenn T. of Niles; and two sisters, Kathryn J. Frizzell of Palmetto, Fla., and Darlyne R. Day of Niles. Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Silverbrook Cemetery, where friends may call one hour before services. Halbritter Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Haynes, H. Clay

H. Clay Haynes
March 19, 1935-May 29, 2005

H. Clay Haynes, 70, of Turnock Street, South Bend, IN, passed away in his home around 5:00 a.m. Sunday, May 29, 2005.

Clay was born March 19, 1935, in Elkin, NC, to Charles and Dorothy (Swaim) Haynes. Clay married Lois Jean Weschgel on June 26, 1954, in Plymouth, IN, and she survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Tracie (Brett) Day of South Bend, IN; and a son, Gregory C. (Karla) Haynes of South Bend, IN; four grandchildren, Patricia Jean Haynes and Clayton Thomas Haynes, William Zachary Day and Scarlett Sue Day; one sister, Oma Sloop of Elkin, NC; and a brother, Charles Gayle (Kathrine) Haynes of Raleigh, NC. Clay was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Rea Haynes; and three brothers, Avery, Roy and Orville Haynes.

Clay retired in February 2004 from NewMar Corp., Nappanee, IN.

Friends are calling today, Wed., June 1, 2005, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the McGann Funeral Home, University Area Chapel, 2313 E. Edison Road, where services will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2005, at 1:00 p.m. Burial will be at the Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, MI. Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice.

Hattenbach, Caroline

Caroline Hattenbach

Death in Buchanan of Mrs. Hattenbach

Mrs. John Hattenbach, well known in Niles, died Saturday night (May 17, 1919) at 10:45 at her home in Buchanan. Mrs. Hattenbach was born in Germany July 17, 1841.

She is survived by three daughters and a son, Mrs. Fred Luther, Galien, Mrs. Frank Southerton and Herman Hattenbach, of Buchanan, and Mrs. George Eisele of Niles; also eight grandchildren, Lenah, Frank, Bertha, Agnes and Marjorie Luther of Galien; Eva Mae, John and Caroline Hattenbach of Buchanan.

Funeral services will be held at Niles Tuesday afternoon at 2 o’clock from St. Johns’ Evangelical church. Rev. Paul Saffran officiating with burial at Silver Brook cemetery.

Hatfield, John A.

John A. Hatfield
April 6, 1923-Dec. 21, 2006

John A. Hatfield, 83, of Cass Street, Niles, died Thursday (Dec. 21, 2006) in his home following a brief illness. He was born April 6, 1923. Longtime employee at Bendix, South Bend. Preceded in death by his son, Jerry. Surviving are his wife, Rachel (Painter); grandchildren, Jeffrey and Jennifer; great-grandson, Brandon; sister, Shirley VanAcker. Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Halbritter Funeral Home, and interment at Silverbrook Cemetery with Veteran's Flag presentation. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home and Masonic rites at 7:30 p.m.

Hatfield, Jerry A.

Jerry A. Hatfield
Sept. 28, 1946-Nov. 29, 1999

Jerry A. Hatfield, 53, of Shady Shores Drive, Niles, Mich., died following an extended illness at 8:20 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 29, 1999, in the Lakeland Medical Center, Niles.

He was born in Niles on Sept. 28, 1946, to John and Rachael (Painter) Hatfield, lived here all of his life, and was graduated from Niles High School in 1964. He attended trade school, and had been employed for several years at JACCAR Automotive, Mishawa-ka, Ind.

He enjoyed motor sports, participated in racing motorcycles on dirt tracks, and enjoyed racing snowmobiles, winning a state snowmobile championship in Indiana.

He also enjoyed firearms sports, especially re-enacting American Old West practices with the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS), hand-loading, and hunting. He was an avid target and trap shooter, formerly competing at state and national level competitions, and was a member of the Bend of the River Conservation Club, Niles.

Surviving family for Mr. Hatfield include his children, Jennifer Hatfield of Niles and Jeffrey Hatfield of Mishawaka, Ind.; his parents, John and Rachel Hatfield of Niles; grandmother, Alfreda Hickerson of Niles; aunt, Shirley VanAcker of Niles; and his cousins, Dixie Davis, Darlene Davis, David Thancher and Barbara Price.

Funeral services for Jerry A. Hatfield will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 4, in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with Pastor Robert E. Vickroy, D.D., of the Calvary Bible Church, Dowagiac, Mich., officiating. Committal services will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 3, in the funeral home.

Contributions in memory of Mr. Hatfield may be made to Hospice at Home.

Haslett, Hubert H.

Hubert H. Haslett
November 10 1918-July 8, 1974

Hubert H. Haslett, 55, of 1631 Cass St., died at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Pawating Hospital, after an illness of seven months.

A budget analyst for Simplicity Pattern co. Mr. Haslett was born November 10, 1918, in Sauk County, Wis., and had lived her since 1923, coming form Wisconsin. On June 5, 1943, in San Francisco, he married the former Eleanor Pfister, who survives.  Also surviving are four sons, Claude, William and Robert, all of Niles and Stephen of Kalamazoo; a daughter, Marilyn A. Haslett of Niles; and a brother, Donald C. Haslett of Stevensville.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in the First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Donald E. Gordon officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.   Friends may call after noon Wednesday at the Halbritter funeral Home. Memorials may be given to the Berrien county Cancer Service.
