Francis Charles "Jake" Jacobs
May 28, 1917-February 4, 2006

Francis Charles "Jake" Jacobs, 88, of South Bend, passed away at 11:50 p.m. Saturday, February 4, 2006, in his daughter's home.

He was born May 28, 1917, in Goshen, Ind., as the son of Walter C. and Ethel L. (Peck) Jacobs, and had been a lifelong resident of this area.

On June 23, 1938, in South Bend, he married Virginia Lee Smith. Together, they enjoyed 66 years of marriage until her passing on April 2, 2004. He was also preceded in death by two sons, Dennis D. Jacobs in Sept. 1986, and Charles C. Jacobs on January 12, 2005; by a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Gaylord; two sisters, Alice Sites, and Betty O'Laughlin; and a half sister, Margaret Milam.

Mr. Jacobs is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Joan and Lynn D. Gaylord of LaPorte, Ind., Garnet S. and William Lamb of Elkhart, Ind., and Nancy J. and George Varga, Sr., of Elkhart, Ind.. Also surviving are eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; along with a half brother, Morris Jacobs of Mishawaka, Ind.

Mr. Jacobs retired from Torrington Corp. in 1979 as a precision grinder following 40 years of service. He was a member of River Park United Methodist Church, PATA (American Trap Shooting), and National Rifle Association. His passion was growing roses. People would travel for many miles to see Jake's roses. He received the J. Horace McFarland Memorial Award for growing roses, and was a member of St. Joseph Valley Rose Society and the American Rose Society. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, and gardening. Most of all, his family was very important to him.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 8, in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Ed Erskin will officiate. Graveside services and burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, Mich. The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests the contributions in memory of Mr. Jacobs be offered to the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 111 Sunnybrook Court, South Bend, IN 46637.

Jacobs, Charles C.

Charles C. Jacobs
February 28, 1941-January 12, 2005

Charles C. Jacobs, 63, residing on South Kenmore, South Bend, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2005, in his home.

He was a retired machinist from Manufacturing Technology Inc. Mr. Jacobs was born on February 28, 1941, in Mishawaka, IN, to Francis and Virginia (Smith) Jacobs, and lived in Michiana all of his life.

Mr. Jacobs is survived by his daughter, Cathleen Wannerton of South Bend; his son, Andrew (Holly) Jacobs of Woodbridge, VA; four grandchildren, Ryan Wannerton, Ashley Wannerton, Shannon Wannerton and Collin Jacobs; his father, Francis Jacobs of South Bend; and three sisters, Joan (Lynn) Gaylord of LaPorte, Sue (Bill) Lamb and Nancy (George) Varga, both of Elkhart.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia Jacobs in April 2004; and by his brother, Dennis Dean Jacobs in 1986.

In 1961, in South Bend, he married Patricia Arthur, who preceded him in death. Then he married Donna Jacobs. They were divorced. He is survived by her children, Stefanie Stowe of Niles, MI, Cullen Cooke of South Bend and Damon Batz of Elkhart, IN.

A graduate of Johns Adams High School, Mr. Jacobs went on to serve his country and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy Reserve. He was a member of American Legion Post 303, South Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2005, in Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Ave., South Bend. Rev. Kathy Miller, pastor of River Park United Methodist Church, South Bend, will officiate. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, Michigan. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday in the funeral home.

Ingleright, Mayme (Stroup)

Mayme Ingleright
Aug. 10, 1894-July 13, 1925

Mrs. Ingleright dies following long illness.

Mrs. C.V. Ingleright, 30, passed away this morning July 13, 1925, at 3:45 o’clock at the home of her mother, Mrs. Catherine Stroup, 106 N. State Street.

Mrs. Ingleright was born in Niles on August 10, 1894, and had spent most of her life her. She possesses many charming characteristics and made may friends as she grew to young womanhood, six of whom deeply mourn her death and sympathize with the bereaved relatives. Mrs. Ingleright is survived by her husband; her mother,, one sister, Mrs. M.R. Ginn of New York City and Leroy Stromp of Niles; a reporter of the Daily Star. Mrs. Ginn reached Niles from New York this morning. The funeral plans will be announced tomorrow.

Hold funeral services for Mrs. Ingleright

Funeral services for Mrs. Claude Ingleright were held this afternoon at Trinity Episcopal Church. Rev. Ernest Dymond, rector of the Episcopal church in Dowagiac, conducted this services. Mrs. C. M. Clark and Miss Dorothy Shepherd, with Miss Lena Lardner at the organ, sang the hymns, "Peace, Perfect Peace" and "Jesus Lives".  Mrs. Ingleright formerly sang in Trinity church choir.

The following served as pallbearers; Willard Collins, Fred Babcock, John Ear, Asa Hamilton, Richard Hamilton and Gordon Bairs.

The body was laid to rest in Silver Brook cemetery. Quantities of beautiful flowers expressed the sympathy of many friends for the bereaved relatives and were a tribute to the high esteem in which the young woman was held.

Among those from out of the city who attended the services were; Mrs. and Mrs. Wilmer Wertz and family of Elkhart. Mrs. and Mrs. Alan Arthur, River Park, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. E. Arney, Buchanan, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Goodling and Isaac Schreiber of South Bend.

Ingleright, Lila Evelyn

Lila Evelyn Ingleright
December 16, 1912-Dec. 5, 1971

Mrs. Lila Evelyn Ingleright, 58 of 926 S. 13th St., Niles, died Saturday Dec. 5, 1971 in Pawating Hospital, where she had been a patient since Friday.

Born December 16, 1912, in Benton Harbor, Mrs. Ingleright had lived here since 1936, coming from Berrien Springs. On April 28, 1934, in South Bend, she married Howard S. Ingleright, who survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, James of Berrien Springs, and Dennis at home; a daughter, Mrs. Shirley Shearer of Niles; two brothers, Leroy and Clarence Jones, both of Niles, and six grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Pifer Funeral Home, with the Rev. Harold Asire of Emanuel Baptist Bible church officiating. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Dr. Leon R. Ingleright, 83, of 1614 Oak Street, Niles, Mi, died at 11 a.m. Tuesday in his home following an illness of two and a half years.

Dr. Ingleright was born Sept. 30, 1870, in Berrien Springs, and came to Niles from Rose City in 1925. He graduated from the former Chicago Medical School in 1887, and practiced in South Bend with his father before starting his own practice in Rose City. He practiced here until his illness. He was a Shriner, 32nd degree Mason and a member of Knights Templer.

Surviving are his wife, Katherine; two children, Mrs. Charles Lastner of Niles and Ray Ingleright of Eau Claire; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, DeWitt Ingleright of Cassopolis and Ross Ingleright of West Branch and four sisters, Mrs. William Pletcher of Goshen, IN, and Mrs. Joseph Hostettler, Mrs. Mabel Carpenter and Miss Allegra Ingleright, all of South Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Kiger funeral Home with the Rev. John G. Carlton, rector of Trinity Episcopal church officiating. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home.

Mrs. Katherine F. Ingleright, 92, 0f 1614 Oak St., died at 6:30 a.m., today in Pawating Hospital where she had been a patient one day.

Mrs. Ingleright was born Nov. 26, 1870 in Ypsilanti. She came to Niles from Rose City in 1924. Her husband, Dr. Leon Ingleright, died in 1953.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Lucas, Niles; a son, Ray Ingleright, Eau Claire; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Barnes, Niles; two grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in the Kiger Funeral Home. The Rev. Frederick LaCrone, curate of her church, will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends are being received at the funeral home.

Mother of Eau Claire Man Dies in Hospital.


Mrs. Katherine F. Ingleright, 92, of 1614 Oak St., Niles, died at 6:30 a.m. Saturday in Pawating Hospital after an illness of one day.

She was born Nov. 26, 1870 in Rose City, MI, and lived in Niles since 1924. Her husband, Dr. Leon Ingleright, died in 1953.  She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Thomas Lucas of Niles; a son, Ray of Eau Claire; a sister, Mrs. Minnie Barnes of Niles; two grandchildren; a step-grandson and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday in Niles, with Rev. Frederick LaCrone, assistant rector of the Trinity Episcopal Church officiating.

Burial was in the Silverbrook Cemetery.

Clymer, Larry W.

Larry Clymer
February 6, 1938-June 16, 2008

Larry W. Clymer, 70, of Powers Court, Niles, Michigan, passed away suddenly in his home of natural causes on Monday, June 16th, 2008. He was born in Niles on February 6, 1938, to Greydon and Edith (Wheeler) Clymer.

On April 24, 1958, Larry married Eleanor Meldrum at a ceremony in Niles.

Larry graduated from Niles High School in 1957. He served in the National Guard for eight years while establishing a career at Tyler Refrigeration, retiring after 30 years of service. Larry served Niles as the city's mayor for 14 years. After leaving office as mayor, Larry decided to go back to work and was employed for several years at Gene Wesner Chevrolet in Buchanan, and was previously employed as a radio personality for WGTO where he hosted Clymer's Corner, a daily talk show. He was also past chairman of the Niles Board of Public Works, past member of the Niles Area Planning Commission, past city chairman of the Niles United Way, chaired the Juvenile Justice Task Force, the Lakeshore Coordinating Council, the Niles Area Transportation Committee and the Berrien County Administration Committee where he was the board liaison to the Berrien County Health Board. He served as chair of the Berrien County Disaster Team, the Southwestern Michigan Commission, president of the Southwest Michigan Football Clinic where he also coached, was a board member of the Niles FOP Little League Baseball and chaired the Berrien County Sewer Appeals Committee. Larry was instrumental in the implementation of the Niles Disaster Plan, the Downtown Development Authority, and helped establish the industrial park. He also assisted in the planning of the Four Flags Plaza senior citizen apartments and the Niles Riverfront Park. Larry was the chairman of the community relations committee of the Boy Scouts of America, was a Kentucky Colonel, a member of American Legion Post 26, member of the St. Joseph Valley Masonic Lodge #4 and was 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. Larry was currently a Berrien County Commissioner representing the 13th District for 14 years and was serving on the Four Winds Casino revenue board.

He will also be remembered for the two songs he had written "Tear Down the Berlin Wall" and "Glory to the Red, White and Blue." Larry also had a love for hunting, fishing, reading and oil painting. Most will remember Larry filling in for Santa for many years, bringing smiles to young and old alike.

Larry was preceded in death by his father.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ellie Clymer of Niles; his mother, Edith Clymer of Niles; two sons, Larry "Jim" (Pati) Clymer of Niles and Jeffrey D. (Laura) Clymer of Valparaiso, Indiana; four grandchildren; a brother, Greydon Clark "Dennis Clymer" of Henderson, Nevada; and a sister, Cheryl (Jack) York of South Bend, Indiana.

A time of visitation will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2008, in the Brown Funeral Home from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., with a Masonic service at 7:30 p.m. in the funeral home by St. Joseph Valley Masonic Lodge #4.

A funeral service will be held in Wesley United Methodist Church, 302 Cedar Street in Niles, on Friday, June 19, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Emmett Kadwell officiating. A private interment will be held at Silverbrook Cemetery.
