Kaiser, Anna Eliza (Walters)

Mrs. Barney Kaiser, Dies after operation. 

Passed away from effect of Gangrene infection.

Mrs. Anna Eliza Kaiser, widow of Barney Kaiser, died last evening at 2:40 in Pawating Hospital where she had been a patient for 10 days during which time she had a major operations.

Mrs. Kaiser had been in ill health for about a year bur since last September she had been confined in her bed. The operation performed with for the amputation of her left leg in an effort to arrest gangrene.

Mrs Kaiser’s maiden name was Anna Eliza Walters. She was born in Niles on Nov. 21, 1852, a daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Karl A. Walters. She was married to Mr. Kaiser in Niles on Aug. 4, 1886. Mr. Kaiser died in June 1929. Of the five children born to Mr. and Mrs. Kaiser; two survived their mother, Karl Kaiser who resides north of Niles in the Long Lake neighborhood and who is employed at the Kawneer plant in Niles and Mrs. Harold Sittler of West Niles. Mrs. Kaiser had been at Mrs. Sittlers home since last summer but formerly lived for many years at 235 Pokagon street and the family home was still maintained there. Besides her children Mrs. Kaiser is survived by three sisters and two brothers who are Mrs. Elmer Decker, Mrs. Arthur Lillie, Charles and Fred Walters of Niles and Mrs. D.B. Edmonds of Elwood, Ind. Four grandchildren survive also one of home, Karl, the only son of Mrs. and Mrs. Karl Kaiser is a student of Kalamazoo College in Kalamazoo.

Mrs. Kaiser was a life long member of St. John’s Evangelical Church. She was a member of the Ladies aid society and active in the church life until ill health prevented.

The funeral services will be held on Friday afternoon. A service will be held at 2 o’clock in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Sittler at 556 West Main Street, and a services will be held at 2:30 in St. John’s church. The Rev. Theo Eisen will officiate. Burial will be made in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Mrs. Karl Kaiser is Dead at Rural Home

Wife of Kawneer foreman passed away after long illness. 

Mrs. Anna B. Kaiser, 44, wife of Karl Kaiser, died March 17, 1933, this morning in their home on the range line road, North of Niles, off US-31.  Mr. Kaiser is in charge of the window, door and specialty department of the Kawneer Company in Niles.  Mr. and Mrs. Kaiser formerly lived in Niles, but 12 years ago moved from Niles to the home where her death occurred.  Mrs. Kaiser had been in ill health for many years and on several occasions has been in the hospital for treatment.  For several months little hope for her recovery had been held.

Mrs. Kaiser was born in St. Joseph on Sept. 13, 1888, a daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Frank Slater, deceased. She was married to Mr. Kaiser in South Bend on July 5, 1913.  He is a son of Mrs. and Mrs. Barney Kaiser of Niles, deceased and Mrs. Harold Sittler of West Niles is his sister.

Surviving Mrs. Kaiser is her husband, Karl Kaiser; a son, Karl Kaiser, student at Kalamazoo College, where remained home this week on account of his mother’s critical condition, by a brother, Frank Slater of South Bend and two sisters, Mrs. Charles Dilley of South Bend and Mrs. Effie Wall, who or several months has made her home with Mr. and Mrs. Kaiser.  Mrs. Kaiser was a member of the New Century Rebekah Lodge in Niles and for three years has been president of the Long Lake Neighborhood Cub.  The funeral plans are not completed but the services will be held on Sunday in the home.  Burial will be made in Silverbrook Cemetery.  Friends may call at the home this evening and until the hour of services.

Funeral services for Mrs. Karl Kaiser, will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 in her home north of Niles. The Rev. R. D. Wearns of Berrien Springs will officiate. Burial will be made in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Kaiser, Anna (Asmus)

Anna Kaiser (Asmus)

Mrs. Anna Kaiser, resident of Niles 74 years, is dead.

Mrs. Anna Kaiser, 79, a resident of Niles, 74 years, died Sunday morning Dec. 22, 1940, in her home, 1525 North Twelfth Street, after and illness of three years of a complication of diseases.

She leaves four daughter, Mrs. Emil Johnson, Mrs. Stuart Miller, Mrs. Earl Rinehart, and Mrs. Carl Wolford and a son, Frank Kaiser, all of Niles. Other survives are a son, Adam Asmus, Niles, five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  Mrs. Kaiser was born in Saxony, Germany, Nov. 20, 1861.  She was married on her birthday in 1884 in Niles to Henry Kaiser who died Feb. 27, 1921.  She was the daughter of the late Mrs. and Mrs. Chris Asmus.

Funeral Services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2 in the home where friends may call. The Rev. Guy W. Simon, pastor of the first Presbyterian Church of which she was a member will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery. She was also a member of the Maccabee lodge.

Kaiser, George Andrew

George Andrew Kaiser
Feb. 7, 1854-Dec. 5, 1912

Andrew Kaiser, 58, died Thursday morning at 4 o’clock (Dec. 5, 1912), at the home of a daughter, Mrs. George Schrimp in Jackson.  About three years ago Mr. Kaiser suffered a stroke of paralysis, since which time he has been unable to do any work, and the result of which caused his death.

Mr. Kaiser was a life long resident of Niles.  For 35 years, until the time of his paralytic stroke, was a section foreman for the Michigan Central.  He is survived by a brother, Henry, 1313 N. Twelfth street, this city, and by five daughters, Mrs. Lizzie Fitter of Chicago, Mrs. George Schrimp of Jackson and Mrs. George Schrumpf, with whom he made his home, when in Niles and Mrs. Ed. Reum and Mrs. Flo Rose of this city.

He was a member of the German Workingman’s society and of St. John’s Evangelical Church.  Funeral announcement later.

Kachur, George A.

George A. Kachur

George A. Kachur, 91, of Winstead Road, Rocky Mount, N.C., formally of Niles, Mich., died following a brief illness at 10:55 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 28,  2004, in his home.  He was the son of George F. Kachur and Augusta (Gullicksen) Kachur of Niles.

He was employed at Kawneer Company of Niles from 1933 to 1945, retiring from Klute Electric Service in 1973.  He was a lifetime member of the Bend of the River Conservation of Niles, and also belonged to the Kawneer Chorus.

He was born Dec. 19, 1912, in Michigan City, Ind., and moved to Niles in August 1929.

On Dec. 2, 1937, he married Lucille Klute, who preceded him in death on May 26, 2002.

Survivors are a daughter, Carol Ann (Dale Chubb) Kachur of Rocky Mount; sons, Dick (Mary Lee) Kachur of Blue Springs, Mo., and Mike (Patt) Kachur of Niles; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Dorothy Kachur Johnston of Grand Rapids, Mich.

He was preceded in death were a brother, Robert Kachur of Niles; and a sister, Julia Kachur Luke, also of Niles.

Services will be held in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, at 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 2, with Rev. Floyd L. Wynn of South Bend, Ind., officiating.

Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

Contributions may be made to the Westminster Presbyterian Church or to the charity of donor's choice.

Clyde L. Judd dies of Heart Affliction
Passes away early Sunday morning at Wayne Street Home.

Clyde L. Judd, 36, died suddenly on Sunday morning of a heart attack at his home 619 Wayne Street. Mr. Judd who was the Niles representative of the Metropolitan Insurance Company was at his work as usual on Saturday and seemed in his usual health when he retired on Saturday night.  About 3:45 Mrs. Judd was awakened by his effort to get his breath and before a physician could reach the house he was dead.  Mr. Judd had a wide acquaintance in Niles and vicinity and his death shocks many friends.

The funeral services were held this afternoon with the Rev. W. W. Slee, pastor of the Methodist church in charge. Burial was made in Silver Brook Cemetery.

Mr. Judd was born in Dowagiac on September 18, 1894.  He came to Niles about 18 years ago and had since resided here.  He was married in December, 1913, to Miss Pearl Vogelsang, a daughter of Mrs. Maud Vogelsang, 545 Union Place.  She survived him as does also one son, Lyle, who is sophomore in Niles High school.  Besides the widow and son, Mr. Judd is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Flora Reprogle and Miss Bessie Judd, of Brookline, NY.  Louis Rathburn, of Jackson, is a stepbrother and Mrs. Judd’s stepmother and two half sisters live in Dowagiac.

Mr. Judd was for a number of years a Michigan Central railroad fireman.  During last year he went to Holland to work for an aircraft company but returned to Niles with his family last January and soon thereafter received the appointment as an agent for the Metropolitan Insurance Company.

Jordan, Rita E. (Watkins)

Rita E. Jordan, 63, of Hoyt Drive in Niles, passed away in her home on Saturday, May 26, 2007, after a long illness.

Rita was born on May 17, 1944, to the late Ned and Amy (Moore) Watkins in Niles.  After graduating from high school she wed the love of her life, Calvin Jordan.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Rita is survived by her husband of 43 years, Calvin; son, James (Kristina) Jordan of Covington, GA; daughter, Melissa Merritt of Stockbridge, GA; stepdaughter, Teri Milam of Desoto, MO; and stepson, Keith Jordan also of Missouri; nine grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; and her brother, Riley (Donna) Watkins of Bruce Crossing, MI.

A visitation will be held for friends and family from 1 to 3 p.m. on Wednesday, May 30, 2007, in Brown Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Niles. Rita will be interred at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

Memorial donations may be made in Rita's name to Hospice at Home, 4025 Health Park Lane, St. Joseph, Michigan 49085.
