Graveside services for Michelle Marie Nunley, infant daughter of Holly Ann Messner and Michael R. Nunley of Niles, were today at 11 a.m. at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles by the Rev. Arnold O. Schaap of Edwardsburg.

Michelle Marie died at 4:44 p.m Sunday at Bronson Hospital, Kalamazoo, shortly after birth.

In addition to her parents, survivors include her grandparents, Chris and Cathy Messner of Nles, Pennie and Lou Carrington of Berrien Springs, Marcia Gale and Doug Orrick of Ohio, and Wayne Simpson of Niles; and great-grandmothers, Frances Messner of Niles, and Shirley Hamilton of Berrien Springs.

Arrangements were completed by Halbritter Funeral Home in Niles.

Nix, Arlene A. (Noel)

Arlene A. (Noel) Nix, 75, of Red Bud Trail, Buchanan passed away on Thursday, August 9, 2007, at Lakeland Hospital in Niles following a lengthy illness.

She was born on August 24, 1931, in South Bend, Indiana to the late Earl and Goldie (Kulchar) Noel.

In 1951 Arlene married Norman Nix, who passed away in 1998.

A homemaker most of her life, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning and playing cards. She volunteered as a den mother for local Cub Scout groups. Arlene had a love for nature and liked being outdoors and fishing. Many have been the recipient of a card or note she sent, as was her special way of touching others.

Arlene in survived by her three daughters; Sandra (James) McCune of St. Joseph, Michigan, Linda (Basil) Withers of Niles and Charlene (Bill) Hartstein of Niles, two sons Clifford Nix of Niles and David (Ann) Nix of San Antonio, Texas, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services will be held on Sunday August 12, 2007, at Brown Funeral Home, Niles at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplin Cindy Van Parys, Lakeland Hospital Chaplin, officiating.

A time of visitation will be on Sunday from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. An interment will take place on Monday at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made in Arlene's memory to her family, where a college fund is being established in her name.

Nielsen, Deborah E.

Deborah E. Nielsen
March 10, 1903-June 2, 1994

Deborah E. Nielsen, 91, of 2528 Juniper Ave., Niles, died at 1:30 a.m. June 2, 1994, in Cass County Medical Care Facility, Cassopolis. Mrs. Nielsen was retired from Pacesetter Bank. She was born March 10, 1903, in Niles. She married Floyd Lintner, who died in 1955. She then married Lawrence Nielsen, who died Nov. 11, 1976. Surviving are several nieces and nephews, including her caretakers, Justin Benjamin and Jessie Craig. Mrs. Nielsen attended Ferris State College. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church and Pawating Hospital Auxiliary.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the care facility or Alzheimer's Association.

Nieb, Rachel L.

Rachel L. Nieb, 93, of Huntington, Ind., formerly of Niles, died at 3:11 p.m. Tuesday June 21, 1994,  in Huntington Memorial Hospital after an illness. Mrs. Nieb was born June 21, 1901, in South Bend and had lived in Huntington since December 1991, coming from Niles. On June 10, 1922, in Niles, she married Harold B. Nieb. He died Jan. 16, 1968. Surviving are two daughters, Marian Johnson of Niles and Myrna A. Wissinger of Huntington; a son, Harold J. of South Bend; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Loa Whitacre of South Bend.

Graveside services will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Halbritter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

White, Donald D.

Donald White
November 2, 1945-July 5, 2009

Donald D. White, 63, of Walling Lane, Niles, died at 9;52 p.m. in Lakeland-Niles of an extended illness.

Mr. White was born on Nov. 2, 1945 in Logansport, IN, to Deanne A. White and Laurana B. Smith.

He was a lifelong Niles resident. Don worked most of his life in banking and was a retired bank president.

He was a member of the American Institute of Banking. Don served as the 2008 president of the Four Flags Area Chamber of Commerce and was still a chamber director. Additionally he was a United Way volunteer, a charter member and past president of the Niles Noon Optimist Club and a member of the Niles-Buchanan Rotary Club. He served on both the Berrien General Hospital (Now Lakeland Specialty Hospital) and the Four Flags Plaza board of directors. He was a member of the Berrien County Kiwania Club.

On May 5, 1979 in Niles, Don married Jan (Arrick) white who survives. Also surviving are four children, Bill (Jenn) White of Hudsonville, MI, Sarah (Brad) Moeggenberg of Northville, MI, Heather (Kevin) Garrard of Niles and Dean De Pree of Niles.; four grandchildren survive, Nolan Garrard, Maxwell White, Emerson Garrard and Madeline White. In addition to his mother, Rana Steiner of Buchanan; a brother, Pat (Gail) White of Niles survives.

Funeral services for Donald D. White will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 9, 2009 at the Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the Halbritter Funeral Home today from 6 to 8 p.m.

Contributions in memory of Mr. White may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Harris, Gale Wyman

Gale Wyman Harris
April 13, 1935-July 4, 2009

Gale Wyman Harris, of Niles,  died at 6:14 a.m. Saturday July 4, 2009, in Lakeland Specialty Hospital, Berrien Center.  US Army Korean War veteran. Born, April 13, 1935. Survivors include his wife, Doris; sons, Michael and Kenneth Harris, both of Niles; sister, Mildred Whitacre of Union Mills, IN. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery at a later date. Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, is handling arrangements. Memorial may be made to Lakeland specialty Hospital-Beechwood House of Lakeland Hospice.

Metcalf, Wanda

Wanda E. Metcalf
Oct. 12, 1941-June 26, 2009

 Wanda E. Metcalf, 67,  of Niles, died Friday June 26, 2009 in her home following an extended illness.  Born Oct. 12, 1941.  Owner/operator of the former Koffee Kup restaurant, Niles, more recently employed at Sam's Club. Preceded by parents, Earl Metcalf and Ollie Sttedman, and sister, Billie Jackson. Survived by her sister, Dena Kennedy of Niles. Family is gathering privately at the grave in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles. Contributions to Hospice at Home. Arrangements at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
