    Miss Effie Clatterbuck, aged 33 years, died this morning about 6:30 o'clock at the home of her mother, Mrs. Clatterbuck, on Parkway, after a brief illness with influenza and pneumonia.
    The young woman was born in Ohio but this city has been the home of the family for several years.  Miss Clatterbuck was one of a family of 10 children, all of whom survive their sister. Of her five brothers, three--Glenn, Carl and Charles--are in France and another, Harlan, recently transferred from Maine, is now in camp at Newport, R.I.  The latter may come home for the funeral services and complete arrangements have not been made, pending work frrom him, although the services will probably be held on Saturday. Besides her mother and the brothers in service, Miss Clatterbuck is survived by a brother, Raymond, at home, and by four sisters--Mrs. Wright of Alexander, O., Mesdames John Trimble and Andrew Stiles, both of Niles, and by another sister.
    Prior to her illness Miss Clatterbuck was employed at the French Paper mill. She was popular with many friends who mourn her death.

    This morning at 6:30 o'clock Miss Effie Clatterbuck died at her home, 398 Parkway, having suffered with influenza and pneumonia for the past two weeks.
    January 27, 1885 Miss Clatterbuck was born in Ohio. She was the daughter of Mrs. Hanna E. Clatterbuck, who moved here from Ohio eight years ago.  The father passed away ten years ago. Up to the time of her illness Miss Clatterbuck was an employe of the French Paper Co.
    Besides her mother she is survived by five brothers and four sisters.
    Miss Clatterbuck was well-liked and popular with a wide circle of friends who are grieved at her passing.
    Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

    Florence Catherine Bolinger, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.O. Bolinger, 498 St. Joseph avenue, died Sunday morning at 1:30 o'clock, following a week's illness of influenza and pneumonia.
    She is survived by her parents, Mr.and Mrs. A.O. Bolinger, two sisters and three brothers, one who is in service overseas.
    She was born in South Bend Aug. 22, 1901.
    Many friends mourn her untimely death.  Miss Bolinger was a member of the Sophomore class of the Niles high school.
    Private funeral services will be held from the house Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Interment will be in Silver Brook cemetery. Rev. Campfield will officiate.

    Miss Florence Catherine Bolinger, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.O. Bolinger, died at her home, 498 St. Joe avenue, at 1:30 o'clock yesterday morning, following an illness of a week with influenza which developed into pneumonia.
    The deceased was born in South Bend, Ind., Aug 22, 1901, and moved to his city with her parents, who have since resided here.
    She attended the Niles high school and made scores of friends with her classmates, who are deeply grieved at her sudden death, which comes as a terrible blow not only to her family, but to every one who knew her.
    She is survived by her parents, two sisters, and three brothers, one who is in service overseas.
    Private funeral services will be held from the house Wednesday afternoon at 3 o'clock.  Rev. W.H. Camfield will officiate. Burial will take place in Silver Brook cemetery.

    Funeral services for Miss Florence Bolinger were conducted this afternoon by Rev. W.H. Camfield from the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O.A. Bolinger.  Eight high school cadets from the sophomore class of which she was a member acted as pallbearers. Interment occurred at Silver Brook cemetery amid a wealth of beautiful flowers.

    Mrs. Flora T. Bolinger, 26 years old, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Frank Rose, 118 East Donald street, South Bend, following a week's illness of pneumonia.
    Mrs. Bollinger was born in South Bend July 3, 1892, and was married on April 19, 1909, to F.S. Bolinger of this city.
    Besides her husband she is survived by one daughter, Eva May, who is seriously ill with influenza at the  home of her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. A. O. Bolinger, 498 St. Joseph avenue, this city, also her mother, one sister and three brothers.
    Funeral arrangements will be made later.

    Mrs. Flora T. Bolinger, 26 years of age, died at the home of her sister, Mrs. Frank Rose, in South Bend.  Eva May Bollinger of Niles is a daughter of the deceased.

Charles Edward Horner

    Charles Horner, a well known Niles young man, died this afternoon at 1:15 o'clock at his home on Howard street, after two weeks' illness with influenza and pneumonia.
    Mr. Horner was born in Niles, Dec. 11, 1889, and had spent his entire life here.  On May 30, 1909, he was married to Miss Mabel Wright of South Bend who, with one daughter, Maxine, aged 4 years, survive him.  Besides his wife and daughter, the young man is survived by his father Reuben Horner, and by six sisters and two brothers.  The sisters and brothers are Mrs. Margaret Hipshier, Mrs. Elizabeth Bidwell, Mrs. Emma Worvey, Mrs. Ruby Felhauer, Miss Claudine Horner, Everett and Clarence Horner, all of Niles, and Mrs. Lucille Deditch of Laporte. His mother died on Sept. 24, 1915.
    The young man had been employed at the Kawneer and was a faithful, energetic employe and popular with his fellow workmen as well as with a wide circle of friends throughout the city who mourn his death.
    Fraternally he was identified with the Niles camp, M.W.A.
    The funeral arrangements were not made today.

    The death of Charles Horner, which occurred this afternoon at 2 o'clock at his home, Howard street, after a two weeks illness with pneumonia, came as a shock to his many friends in this city.
    Deceased was born Dec. 11, 1889 in this city and was married to Miss Mable Wright of South Bend, May 30, 1909.
    Besides his wife and daughter, Maxine, he is survived by his father, Reuben Horner, and six sisters and two brothers, all of this city.  Mr. Horner's mother passed away three years ago.
    Funeral arrangements have not been made.

FUNERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

    Private funeral services for Charles Edward Horner were held Tuesday afternoon from the residence, 510 Howard street. Rev. Saffran conducted the services. Many beautiful flowers were an evidence of the high esteem in which the young man was held.  Interment occurred at Silver Brook cemetery. Reverend and Mrs. Saffran sang at the committal service.

    Private funeral services for the late Charles Horner will be conducted from the residence, 510 Howard street, tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock.  Rev. Paul Saffran, pastor of St. John's church, will officiate. Interment will take place at Silver Brook cemetery.

Elizabeth Montgomery

Mrs. Elizabeth Montgomery, 87, of 726 North Fourth Street, died at 3:05 p.m. Tuesday in Pawating Hospital here where she had been a patient since Feb. 6.  She had been in poor health for some time. 

Mrs. Montgomery was born Aug. 7, 1870 in Princeton, Ind., and came to this community three years ago from Chicago to make her home.  Surviving are:  three daughters, Mrs. Bess Williamson, of Niles, Mrs. Florence Gerulas, of Glendora, Calif., and Mrs. Mabel Wilcox, of Chicago; four grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Pifer Funeral Home here with the Rev. L. George Beacock, pastor of the First Methodist Church, officiating.  Friends may call at the funeral home.”

(Family member added additional note: "As a note of interest, her parents were Francis Marion Throne and Harriet Keith.  She was married to Hugh Montgomery on 4 July 1889 in Gibson County, Indiana.")

 

Edward Fink

    Another star in the city's service flag has turned to gold in the death of Edward Fink, who died this morning at Gettysburg, Pa., a victim of the Spanish influenza. Word was received last evening that the young man was seriously ill. The telegram announcing his death was received at noon.
    The erlatives[sic] have advised the officer who sent the message to ship the body to Niles for burial.
    Edward would have been 22 years of age had he lived until the 22d of this month. He was born in Niles and had practically spent his entire life here until he entered military service. He went to Camp Custer on Aug. 28, and two weeks later he was transferred to Gettysburgh to enter the tank service, his naturally inventive and ingenious turn of mind, which had indicated a promising career since his early youth, rendering him of special value in this line of work. He was enthused with his work and his letters home expressed his pleasure at being transferred to this kind of service.
    Last June he was united in marriage to Leota Stratton, who resides at 1206 Oak street.  Besides his wife, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. George Fink, of Yankee street, and by three brothers--Elba, Charles and George--all of Niles.
    The young man was well known through the community and the announcement of his death is mourned by many.



    Military funeral services for Edward Fink, who died at Camp Colt, Gettysburg, Pa., a victim of Spanish influenza, were held Sunday afternoon from the home of his mother, Mrs. George Fink. The body reached Niles Saturday evening and was accompanied here by Sergeant Brown of Camp Colt.  Rev. A.W. Lyons of the First Baptist church conducted the services. A quartet comprising Mrs. Verne Hinkle, Miss Hamilton, Messrs. Martin and Ruckle, sang.  Members of the state constabulary stationed in Niles as guards, acted as pallbearers.  The body was laid to rest at Silver Brook cemtery[sic] amid a wealth of beautiful flowers, as the taps were sounded and a volley of shots were fired.  A large concourse of friends gathered at the home and at the cemetery to pay their last respects to the well known young soldier.
    Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Romy and Mrs. Barbara Romy of Fort Wayne, Ind., were among those from out of the city who attended the funeral.
