NILES - Phillip L. Butt, 75, of 1420 Alman, died Sunday in Lakeland Medical Center-Niles. Survivors include a daughter, Diane Rivers of South Bend; three sons, Phillip of Texas, Bill of Michigan City and Robert of Fort Wayne; two stepdaughters, Deanna Lee Ditto and Mary Closson, both of Niles; four stepsons, Dennis Chamberlain of Buchanan, Duane Chamberlain of Niles, Theodore Chamberlain of Pullman, Mich., and Gregory Gitchell of Stuarts Draft, Va. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Pifer-Smith Funeral Home, where friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today.

Butler, Lynn

NILES - Lynn Butler, 81, of 1211 State Line Road, died at 4:45 p.m. Saturday in Pawating Hospital after an illness. Mr. Butler was a retired employee of National Standard Company. He was born Dec. 6, 1912. On April 19, 1941, in St. Joseph, he married Josephine B. Fowler. She died March 26, 1974. Surviving are a son, David L. of Granger; and two grandchildren. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Silverbrook Cemetery. There is no visitation. Halbritter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Burns, Marcia E.

NILES - Services for Marcia E. Burns, 59, of 3162 Burn Lynd St., who died at 11:40 p.m. Sunday in her home of natural causes, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in Union Protestant Church of Dailey, Cassopolis. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Halbritter Funeral Home.

She was born Jan. 8, 1935, in Cassopolis. On Dec. 13, 1973, in Cassopolis, she married Lawrence Joseph Burns. He survives with two daughters, Lois D. Salo and Sheila D. Salo, both of Tempe, Ariz.; a son, Erick Salo of Niles; two stepdaughters, Diana Wroblewski and Lari Jo Kulwicki, both of Niles; her mother, Eleanor Louise Haslanger of Niles; two grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. She was a member of the church.

Buckle, Robert Henry

Memorial services fo Robert Henry Buckle, 85, of 612 Clay St., Niles, will be Thursday, April 4, at 11 a.m. at Pifer-Smith Funeral Home in Niles. Pastor John Rutowicz will be officiating.

Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

Buckle died of natural causes Monday, April 1 at 11:50 a.m. at Dowagiac Nursing Home in Dowagiac.

Buckle was born Feb 7, 1917 in England to Edward and Amy (Preston) Buckle.  On March 27, 1940, he married Norma M. Becker in Sturgis.  She survives.  He was a veteran of the army. He was a spray painter at Tyler Manufacturing and retired after 40 years of service.  He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Niles.

Survivors (in addition to his wife) include: one daughter, Roberta Ann Reed of Marcellus, one son, Donald LeRoy Buckle of Marcellus, four grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; one sister, Harriet Williams; and two brothers, Jim and Tom Buckle.

There will be no visitation.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Niles.

Badgero, Robert J.

Mr. Robert J. "Jack" Badgero, 77, of Davis Street, Niles, Mich., died after an extended illness at 3:35 a.m. Thursday, May 31, in the Cardinal Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, South Bend, Ind.

He was born April 20, 1924, in Mount Pleasant, Mich., to Robert Phillip and B. Flossie (Converse) Badgero, and was graduated from the Ovid (Michigan) High School. He had lived in Niles since 1947, coming from Owosso, Mich.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps, and was then employed for thirty years by the Ball Band Company, Mishawaka, Ind. (more recently Uniroyal), retiring in 1979. He enjoyed hunting, both locally and in the plains states. He was baptized as a Christian last year through the Church of Christ in Niles.

On July 10, 1951, in LaGrange, Ind., he was married to the former Lena Blanchard, who preceded him in death Aug. 24, 1984. He was also preceded by a sister, Arlene Hartley on Jan. 10, 1991.

Surviving family include his siblings, Bruce and Dorothy Badgero of South Bend, Colleen and Maynard Ricker of South Bend, and George and Nancy Badgero of Granger, Ind.; and by many nieces and nephews.

Services for Mr. Robert Jack Badgero will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, June 7, in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with Brother William Myers of Willowdale Church of Christ, Elkhart, Ind., officiating. Committal will be at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

Contributions in memory of Jack may be made to Hospice at Home or to Hospice of Saint Joseph County, Ind.

On Sunday morning the 20th of March of Scarlet fever, Robbie R. youngest son of James and Elizabeth Badger, aged 5 years, 2 months and 5 days.

Death of James Badger

  DIED at 11 o’clock age 70 years. Mr. Badger came to this county in 1844 form the state of New York, and returned the same year and married Miss Elizabeth Herkimer, and soon after moved her and resided on the farm where he died. He was a man of great industry and accumulated several hundred acres of the rich bur oak soil of the Indian reserve. He leaves three sons and three daughters. No man in this section of the country was more esteemed for his honesty and integrity than Mr. Badger. He was always ready to contribute to any public enterprise, and aid the distressed and needy, whenever or whoever they might be. He will be greatly missed, not only by his family, but by all in this section of the country. His funeral will take place Tuesday at 1 p.m., at his late residence.
