SUDDEN DEATH OF WELL KNOWN NILES RESIDENT
Mrs. K. F. Zimmerman Failed to Rally From Operation

Mrs. Louise Zimmerman, aged 15 years, wife of Kasper Frederick Zimmerman, passed away yesterday afternoon about 3 o'clock at her home, 107 North Fifth street. Mrs. Zimmerman had been ill three weeks with a tubercular infection of the tonsils. Yesterday at noon she submitted to an operation, with Dr. Bartlett of St. Joseph, a throat specialist assisting. She failed to rally from the anaesthetic, her entire system having been affected by blood poison and her heart was weak. Her death was unexpected and came as a great shock to her family.

Mrs. Zimmerman was born in Niles May 21 1866. Her maiden name was Louise Rasbach. On December 18, 1885, she was married to Mr. Zimmerman. Eight children were born to them and of these five are left with the husband to mourn the death of devoted wife and mother. The five are Raymond Zimmerman, Jackson; Mrs. Roy Merritt, Mrs. Bertha Palmer, Mrs. Harold Wideman, and Miss Allene Zimmerman, all of Niles. Besides the husband and children Mrs. Zimmerman is survived by her sister, Mrs. Annie Rasbach Hansler, widow of Frank Ransler[sic], of Pamomo, Calif. Mr. Hansler, who is a former resident of Niles, died just two weeks before the death of Mrs. Zimmerman, and on account of her recent bereavement, Mrs. Hansler will be unable to come to Niles for the funeral services.

Mrs. Zimmerman was a member of the Ladies' Aid Society of St. John's church. She was highly respected resident of the city in which she had spent her entire life.

The funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the house and at 2 o'clock form St. John's church. Rev. F. Rahn will officiate. Interment will occur at Silver Brook cemetery.

Miss Ida E. Young died at Kalamazoo this morning. The body will be brought to Niles tomorrow and taken to the home of her sisters, Misses Harriet M. and Carrie E. Young, 404 Michigan Street, where the funeral services will be held Monday afternoon. The services will be private.

NILES – Leland L. Hamilton Sr., 77, of 412 S. 11th St., died at 11:30 a.m. Friday in Pawating Hospital following an extended illness. He was the owner of Hamilton Monument Co.

He was past Exalted Ruler and Secretary of the Niles Elks Lodge and past State President of the Michigan Elks Association. He was also a member of St. Joseph Valley Lodge No. 4 of the F and AM being a 32nd degree Mason.

Mr. Hamilton was born on April 12, 1901, in Youngstown, Ohio, and had lived in Niles since 1937 coming from Ohio. On June 28, 1923,, in Dayton, Ohio, he married the former Mildred H. Miller, who preceded him in death on Jan. 21, 1978.

Surviving are two sons, Leland Jr., Niles, and Robert, Buchanan; a daughter, Mrs. David (Carol) Knoll, Niles; a brother, Paul, Fort Myers, Fla.; a half-sister, Mrs. Marie Thompson, San Jose, Calif.; 14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday in the Halbritter Funeral Home. The Rt. Rev. Msgr. John Slowey of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery with committal services by BPOE Lodge No 1322.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 2 p.m. Sunday. Memorial contributions may be made to the Niles Elks Memorial Fund.

Annabelle Hans Dies in Arizona; Burial in Niles

Mrs. Annabelle Hans, 90, died Tuesday at her home in Phoenix, Ariz. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Sylvester Ward and was born in Niles. She was the last one of her family. A daughter, Cora, who married Ira Faurote, died about 13 years ago.

Miss Marjorie Ward, daughter of the late Montgomery Ward, and Mrs. Val Kendall, Detroit, were her nieces who survive.  Her grandson, Robert Ward Faurote, went by plane to Phoenix to bring the body to Niles for burial in Silverbrook cemetery.

Funeral services will be in Phoenix and the committal will be conducted at the grave Saturday afternoon with the Rev. Harry Nicholson officiating. Mrs. Kendall and others from Detroit will be here for the rites.

Herring, Leslie E. 1889-1960

Leslie Herring, 71, 546 Lake St., died at 10:15 a.m. Today in Pawating hospital. He had been a patient there for eight days.

He was born march 20, 1889 in Chicago. He came here from Chicago in 1920 and was a retired truck driver. He is survived by his wife, Adahlia.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Kiger-Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rev. Maurice McKean of the First Methodist church officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call at the funeral home after noon on Tuesday.

Hoffman, Charles Henry 1880-1960

Charles Henry Hoffman, 80, 208 ½ N. Front st., died at 8 a.m. Thursday in his home following an illness of several months.

Mr. Hoffman, a retired farmer was born May 5, 1880, in Dolphin County, Pa., and had lived this this community for the past 70 years. He is survived by a brother Chester Hoffman, South Haven.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Kiger and Halbritter Funeral Home here with the Rev. Gordon Evertt[sic], pastor of the First Evangelical United Brethren Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends are being received at the funeral home.

Frizzell, Leonard A. 1924-1971

Leonard A. Frizzell, 47, of 1386 Airport Rd., was dead on arrival at 8 p.m. Saturday at Pawating Hospital.

A steel construction worker for J.A. Jones Construction Co., Mr. Frizzell was born Feb. 13, 1924, in Manchester, Tenn., and had lived here for 30 years, coming from Manchester. On June 26, 1953, in Niles, he married the former Antoinette Cacya, who survives. He was a World War II veteran and a member of the Iron Workers Union of Mishawaka.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Frizzell is survived by a son, Robert, at home; his mother, Mrs. Gertie Frizzell of Niles; two brothers, Everett and Lloyd, both of Kankakee, Ill., and three sisters, Mrs. Josephine Smith, Mrs. Jan Eaves and Mrs. Wanda Darling, all of Niles.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Pifer Funeral Home, with Stanley Davis of the Church of Christ of Michigan City, Ind. officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, where American Legion Post 26 will conduct a committal service.
