Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in St. Paul's Lutheran Church here for Hugh T. Williams, 45, Windmill Farms, Armonk, N.Y., who died at 6 p.m. Friday in St. Agnes Hospital, White Plains, N.Y. The pastor, the Rev. Theodore Laesch, will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Surviving are: his widow, the former Miss Estella Lork, daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Gus Lork, 311 Oak St.; two children, Jeffrey and Ann, both at home; his mother, Mrs. Henry Haumesseur, Mishawaka, Ind., and a sister, Mrs. Laverne Ries, Mishawaka, Ind.

Memorial services will also be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the Oelker and Cox Funeral Home at Mount Kisco, N.Y.

Arrangements here are being made by the Pifer Funeral Home.

John F. Williams, 85, 509 Ship St., St. Joseph, died at 1:45 p.m. Monday, March 6, at Shoreham Terrace following an extended illness.

He served in the U.S. Navy and was a retired employee of Clark Equipment Co.,

He was born February 7, 1904 in Niles, and married Esther (Smallwood) Williams august 28, 1930 in Logansport, Ind. She died January 3, 1971. He married Wilma (Clayborn) Williams July 27, 1980 in St. Joseph. She survives.

Also surviving are: two sisters, Frieda Whetstone of Berrien Springs and Carried Dawson of South Bend; a stepdaughter, Mary Ann Gaddie of Olatha, Kansas; a stepson Robert Claybourne of St. Joseph; and two stepgrandchildren.

Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, March 9, at the Halbritter Funeral Home with Rev. Clayton D. Fairo of First Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. and from 7 to 8 p.m. at Halbritter Funeral Home.

Snow Shoveller Dies Here
Raymond S. Radewald, 62, Is Victim

RAYMOND S. Radewald, 62, 537 Cass st., died early today while shoveling snow in the 300 block of North 3rd Street. Berrien County Medical Examiner Dr. Russell Vastine Jr., said he had suffered a heart attack about 5 a.m.

Body of the victim was found lying across the sidewalk, at 5:48 a.m. by Eileen Glassburn, 222 S. 4th St., who was on her way to work. Niles police were summoned and the body was removed from the scene and later identified by a nephew George Radewald, 122 Spruce St.

The death is the first this winter in Niles resulting from over-exertion in removing snow.

Mr. Radewald was born May 17, 1898, in Niles and had lived his entire life in the house on 527 Cass St. He was self-employed and at the time of his death was fulfilling a snow-removal contract.

SURVIVING besides the one nephew are: a niece, Mrs. Floyd Shepard, Niles; an uncle, William Radewald, Niles, and several aunts, Mrs. Emma Kitterer, Niles, Mrs. Clara Hahn, Fort Wayne, Ind., and Mrs. James Cutting, South Bend.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday in the Kiger and Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard J. Fraser, pastor of St. John's United Church of Christ (Evangelical and Reformed), officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the funeral home.

DEATH SOON FOLLOWS BIRTH ANNIVERSARY
Mrs. Evangeline Raines Had Been Bed Ridden For Six Weeks

Mrs. Evangeline Raines, who last Saturday observed her seventy-eighth birthday anniversary, died last evening at 11:30 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edith Brown, 207 ½ Main street, where she had made her home since coming to Niles from Marion, Ind., about three years ago.

Mrs. Raines was born in Indiana and had spent most of her life there. She suffered a fall about seven weeks ago and broke a shoulder bone and had since been confined to her bed most of the time. However, she was making a recovery until Sunday when she suffered a heart attack, and steadily grew weaker until her death.

Besides Mrs. Brown, Mrs. Raines is survived by another daughter, Mrs. Glen Cartwright, of Summitville, Ind.; also by a sister, Mrs. C.W. Baker, of Kokomo, Ind., and two brothers, Dr. Leland Davis, of Lincoln, Neb., and Dr. E.L. Davis, of Greensburg, Ind.

The funeral services will be conducted on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Troost and Augustine chapel. Rev. H.T. Scherer, pastor of the Presbyterian church will officiate. Burial will be made in Silver Brook cemetery.

News in Brief: FUNERAL TODAY

Funeral services for Mrs. Evangeline Raines, mother of Mrs. Edith Brown were conducted this afternoon at the Troost and Augustine chapel by Rev. H.T. Scherer. Mr. and Mrs. Rex Leach sang, “Abide with Me” and Lead Kindly Light”. Burial took place in Silver Brook cemetery.

Mrs. Mary Emma Rood, 76, 1025 N. 9th St., died at 4:05 p.m. Wednesday in Pawating Hospital where she had been a patient since Dec. 21. She had been in failing health for four years.

Mrs. Rood was born June 13, 1884, in Snyder County, Pa., and had lived in the community most of her lifetime coming here when she was four years of age. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors of America, the Modern Woodmen and the Auxiliary to the Brotherhood of Railroad Engineers. Her husband, Alfred Rood, preceded her death in 1957.

Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. John Prestine, Niles, and Mrs. Norman Williamson, Dowagiac; four sons, Henry, George, Robert and Roy Rood, all Niles; 11 grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Boughton, Three Rivers.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday in the Pifer Funeral Home with Dr. Maurice McKean, pastor of First Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends are being received at the funeral home.

Rose, Harold K. 1900-1961

Harold K. Rose, 1638 Cherry St., died at 5 a.m today in Pawating Hospital. Today was his 61st birthday, born Jan. 14, 1900 in Pulaski, Tenn.

He moved here from Michigan City, Ind. In 1918 and married Sally L. Whitfield, who survives, on June 23, 1923 in LaPorte, Ind.

Other survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Bettie Bailey, South Bend, and Mrs. Onia Fouche, Niles; two sons, Sgt, Robert W. Rose, U.S. Army in Germany, and Airman 2nd Class Harold K. Rose Jr., U.S. Air Force, Trenton, N.J., and one grandson, Charles Fouche of Niles.

He was a retired stationary engineer. He had been a member of the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, the John W. Moore Lodge, 42 F.&A.M., and was a 32nd Degree Mason.

Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Theodis L. Hadley officiating. Other funeral arrangements are incomplete.

The body is at the Kiger and Halbritter Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Harold K. Rose, 61, 1638 Cherry St., will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Mt. Calvary Baptist Church with the Rev. Theodis L. Hadley officiating. The John W. Moore Lodge, 42 F &A.M. Will conduct grave side services at Silverbrook Cemetery.

He died Saturday morning in Pawating Hospital. Friends may call at the Kiger and Halbritter Funeral Home.

Mrs. Leva Rutter Passes Away

Mrs. Leva Rutter, 62, 1109 Cedar street, widow of Edwin D. Rutter, who died in December, 1917, passed away at four o'clock this morning at her home, following a stroke of paralysis on Monday. Mrs. Rutter also suffered a stroke last March.

She was born in Hardin county, Ohio, December 31, 1872, and came to Berrien county when four years old, residing with an aunt at Berrien Center until her marriage to Edwin Rutter, of this city. They were married March 20, 1891, at Berrien Center.

They had three children, two sons and one daughter, Emma, who died when five years of age. The sons, Evan and Paul, both reside in Niles. She is also survived by one brother and one sister, Burt and Etta McGuiness, both of Lima, O.

Funeral services will be held at the house Friday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. Walter Osborn , of the Baptist church, will officiate. Burial will take place in Silverbrook cemetery.
