MRS SYLVIA MOORE, BETRAND, IS DEAD

BERTRAND, Oct. 22—Mrs. Sylvia A. Moore, 80, died early this morning in the family home here. Her death ended an illness of two years.

Mrs. Moore was born near Angola, Ind., May 29, 1960. She came to Bertrand from Boyne City, Mich., 21 years ago and had lived in the Bertrand community continuously since that time.

Surviving are two sons, Frank and Fred, Bear Lake, Mich.; also seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The body is at the Price and Kiger chapel in Niles. Friends may call there prior to the service. The day and hour of the funeral have not been set.  Arrangements will be made after the arrival of the sons from Bear Lake.

Bertrand Woman's Service Thursday

Services for Mrs. Sylvia A. Moore, 80, Bertrand, will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 3 in the Price and Kiger chapel. Mrs. Moore, who had lived in the Bertrand community more than 20 years, died early Tuesday morning in her home.

The Rev. Joseph Hyink will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery. Two sons, Fred and Frank, of Bear Lake, returned home when they received news of their mother's death.

Arthur L. Roach,57, Dies Late Saturday

Arthur L. Roach, 57, died at 9:30 o'clock Saturday night at his home, 529 Sycamore street, after a lingering illness. Born in New Carlisle, Ind., Oct. 3, 1876, he came to Niles with his parents when a small child and had resided here ever since.

The deceased was a contractor of interior and exterior decorating. He was a member o the Blue lodge, the Niles council, Knights Templar, and the Order of the Eastern Star.

Surviving are the widow, one daughter, Mrs. Ted Aberman, and granddaughter, Sara Jean, Niles; two half-brothers, William Crawford, Los Angeles, Calif., and Eugene Crawford, Eau Claire.

Friends may call at the Price and Kiger funeral home until time for the funeral services which will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon there with the Rev. Robert E. Meader, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, officiating.  Interment will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Schiele, Raymond Frederick

Schiele Funeral Held on Sunday Afternoon

Raymond Shiele[sic], 5-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles W. Schiele, 902 Oak street, died at 5:35 o'clock Saturday afternoon of scarlet fever. He was born June 5, 1928.

Besides his parents, he is survived by a sister, Jane, and a brother, Robert.  Private funeral services were held at 2:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the home with the Rev. Robert E. Meader, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, officiating.  Burial was in Silverbrook cemetery.

Scidmore, Frederick P.

The remains of Frederick T. Scidmore, aged 34 years, were brought to Niles today from Detroit and laid to rest at Silver Brook cemetery beside those of his mother, Jennie Berry Scidmore, who died about 30 years ago.  Mrs. R. Gates Rice, a sister of the young man's mother and a cousin of Mrs. A. Lewis, 514 Cedar street, accompanied the remains to Niles. . .

(Note: Cemetery and Michigan Death record give middle initial as P.  However, it appears that he may have used the name Percy B. Scidmore as the grave marker with the dates 1876-1913 bears that name and he is found in the 1899 Detroit City Directory as Percy B. Scidmore.)

George A. Smith, 69, Dead; Rites Tuesday

George A. Smith, 69, long a resident of Niles, died at 5 o'clock this morning at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Harry Vanderboegh, 1603 North Fifth street.

The deceased was born Feb. 16, 1865, in New York City. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Mary Seaburg, Mrs. Claude Stewart, Mrs. Frank Wolfinger, and Mrs. Harry Vanderboegh, all of Niles; a sister, Mrs. Herman Headley, South Bend; two brothers, Thomas Smith, East Chicago,and Peter Smith, Toledo; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at the Price and Kiger funeral home with the Rev. M.R. Everett officiating.  Interment will be in Silverbrook cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home until time for the services.

SALLIE BOND SMITH

A message received this morning from Miss Carrie Bond, who went to Decorah, Iowa, a few days ago stated that her sister, Mrs. Sallie Bond Smith, was dead after a long illness and that the remains would be brought to Niles for interment. They will arrive next Tuesday and will be taken directly to Silver Brook cemetery with a committal service only at the grave. The funeral services will be held Saturday at Decorah.

Mrs. Tennessee Smith Dies; Funeral Monday

Mrs. Tennessee Carolina Smith, 72, died at 2:30 o'clock this morning at her home, 118 Elm street. She was born Feb. 9, 1962 at Summitville, Tenn.

Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Beulah Campbell, Mrs. Blanche Mitchell and Mrs. Sidney Stone, all of Niles; two brothers, Greenfield Fletcher, Niles,and one in Tennessee; five sisters, Mrs. Frank McLaughlin, Niles, the others in Tennessee; and seven grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon at the Price and Kiger funeral home with the Rev. G.W. Simon officiating. The body will remain at the home until time for the services. Interment will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
