FRED BALLARD DIES AFTER LONG ILLNESS
Fails to Recover From Injured Hip Suffered Two Years Ago; Funeral Tuesday
Fred Ballard, 72, died Sunday afternoon at the Ballard homestead west of Niles of injuries which he suffered two and a half years ago when he fell and broke a hip. Dr. G.W. Simon, pastor of the Presbyterian church, will officiate at the funeral services to be conducted at the Ballard home Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Burial will follow in Silverbrook cemetery.
Mr. Ballard was born on April 21, 1861, in the home in which he died. He was the second born in a family of four boys, sons of M.M. and Ellen J. Ballard. After leaving the farm as a young man, he became a carpenter and contractor int eh West, where he married Miss Margaret Corkhill in 1890. For many years he lived in Berwyn, Ill. He is survived by the widow, three daughters, Mrs. Mary Esther MacCollum, Ferndale, Mich., Misses Frances and Alice Ballard, Chicago, a granddaughter, Mary Jane MacCollum and two brothers, Harry and Ralph, who live on the homestead where the family has lived since coming to this section in 1852. One son, Edward, died in 1920.

HOLD BALLARD FUNERAL
Funeral services for Fred Ballard, who died Sunday afternoon at the Ballard homestead west of Niles were held at 2 o'clock this afternoon at the Ballard home. Dr. G.W. Simon, pastor of the Presbyterian church, officiated and burial followed in Silverbrook cemetery.
