Clem Bodine Dies at Niles Hospital

Clem Bodine, 40, Niles barber, died at the Pawating hospital late Wednesday afternoon after an illness of several days. Mr. Bodine was taken to the hospital Friday and underwent a serious operation Saturday morning. His condition following the operation remained critical and death occurred Wednesday.

He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Mabel Bodine, 1113 Regent street, and by three children, Wallace 15, Dorothy 8, and Kenneth 6.

Funeral services have been arranged for 10:30 o'clock Saturday morning at the Rutherford Funeral Home. The Rev. R.E. Meader, pastor of the First Methodist church, will officiate and burial will be in the Silverbrook cemetery.

Mr. Bodine was born in North Liberty, Ind., Dec. 31, 1892, and was married to Miss Mabel Blessing, Michigan City, in Chicago, July 12, 1915.  The family has lived in Niles for 14 years during which time Mr. Bodine had been employed at his barber trade. For many years he ran a shop at 214 Front street, and was later associated with  the Henderson shop in Main street. For the past few months he had been at his home.  His father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. William Bodine, Walkerton, Ind., and a brother, Grant Bodine, Kalamazoo, also survive. He was for many years a member of the South Bend lodge of Eagles. The body may be viewed at the Rutherford Funeral home.

BODINE FUNERAL SATURDAY

Among the out-of-town people who attended the funeral services recently for Clem Bodine were Mr. and Mrs. William Bodine, Mr. and Mrs. H. Knolton and Mrs. James Wood, Walkerton, Ind. Others from out-of-town who attended the services were Mr. and Mrs. Joe Osos; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Titcher, Mr. and Mrs. William Blessing, Mrs. William Weilmitz, Mrs. Gus Kriezel and Mrs. Everett Eddy, Michigan City, and Mr. and Mrs. James Quigley Grant Bodine, Mrs. Marvin Hingo and son, Frederick, Mrs. Floyd Kirkland, and Mrs. Gus Blessing, Kalamazoo.

Mrs. Nellie Cox Succumbs After Week's Illness

Mrs. Nellie Cox, 30 South Barrett street, died Monday morning at 1:00 o'clock, following a week's illness.

Mrs. Cox had lived in Niles for the last 20 years, coming here from her former home in Kansas City, No. She was born in Wabash, Ind. She is survived by one daughter, Miss Kathleen Cox, secretary to H.G. Shannon, of the Michigan Bell Telephone company.

Three sisters also survive: Mrs. Alice Mell, 30 South Barrett street, with whom Mrs. Cox had been living for several years; Mrs. H.E. Sauer, Girard, Kansas, and Mrs. K.C. Helm, Wilmington, Kansas.

Mrs. Cox was a member of the Fist Church of Christ Scientist.

Arrangements for the funeral services have not been completed.

COX SERVICES TODAY

The Christian Science service was read by Charles Kitterer at the rites for Mrs. Nellie Cox, at the home, 30 South Barrett street, this afternoon. Burial was in Silverbrook cemetery. Relatives called here by Mrs. Cox death were Mr. and Mrs. George W. Cox and daughter, Elsie and son Kermit, Hoopeston, Ill., and Miss Nannie C. Cox, Kankakee, Ill.  Pallbearers were Durlin N. Wheeler, Hartman Bachman, W.L. Shafer, W.C. Whitcher, H.O. Parker, and Henry R. Hill

Anna Hamilton

Long Illness Fatal to Mrs. W. Hamilton

  Mrs. Anna Hamilton, 74, died Sunday afternoon at 4 o'clock at her home, 320 Huron street. Her death followed an illness of 14 years.

Born in Covington, Ky., May 28, 1862, Mrs. Hamilton came to Niles in 1910, where she had lived for nearly 25 years.  She was a member of a family of 12 children, one one of whom survive her, a brother, Henry Herne, New Jersey.

Mrs. Hamilton leaves her husband, Wilber Hamilton, and five children: Mabel Hamilton, Helen Hamilton and Mrs. Vern Hinkle, all of Niles; Philip Hamilton, Berrien Springs and Charles Hamilton, Virginia.

The services will be held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Troost and Turner funeral chapel, with the Rev. Guy W. Simon of the First Presbyterian church officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

RITES HELD TUESDAY

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon for Mrs. Anna Hamilton at the Troost and Turner funeral home. The Rev. Guy W. Simon officiated and burial was in Silverbrook cemetery.  Pallbearers were George Myers, Maurice Lomaugh, Richard Hoak, W.S. Hinkle, F.L. Richel and Rollo Morris.

Robert Charles Pawlak

BERTRAND BABY DIES

Robert Charles, 8 months old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Pawlak, of the state line neighborhood, died of pneumonia shortly after being admitted to the Pawating hospital at noon today.  The baby has been taken to the Rutherford funeral home.  No funeral arrangements have been announced.

INFANT RITES MONDAY

Funeral services for Robert Charles Pawlak, eight months old son of Mr. and Mrs. William Pawlak, Bertrand, will be held Monday morning at 10:30 o'clock at the home of an aunt, Mrs. P. F. Dreilbilbis, on the old US-31 highway at Bertrand.  The Rev. F.C. Hogan of the Bertrand Community church will be in charge of the services with burial in the Silverbrook cemetery.

Long Illness Fatal To Mrs. Linda Rice

Mrs. Linda Alice Rice, 66, died Wednesday night at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ray Nichols, 963 Hickory street, after a prolonged illness. Mrs. Rice was born in Niles March 6, 1867. Her husband, Walter, preceded her in death about five years ago.

Surviving are a sister, Mrs. Ella Early, two daughters, Mrs. Ray Nichols and Mrs. Emil Bachman, and two grandchildren, all of Niles.

Services will be held at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the Price and Kiger funeral home with the Rev. G.W. Simon of the Presbyterian church officiating.  Burial will follow in Silverbrook cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home any time before the services to view the body.

NILES WOMAN DRINKS FATAL POISON DOSE

Mrs. Rosina Rodriguez Mixes and Drinks Potion, Then Tells Nephew

Funeral services for Mrs. Rosina Rodriguez, wife of Joe Rodriguez, 1207 Wayne street, who died late Thursday afternoon after taking poison, will be held at the Rutherford Funeral home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock. Mrs. Rodriguez, who was believed to be despondent due to recent ill health, took her life apparently after a carefully planned scheme.

Oliver and Leroy Pierson, nephews of the deceased were at the home Thursday afternoon and Mrs. Rodriguez, sent Oliver, the younger boy with a note to her husband explaining her action, and went into the kitchen and mixed the fatal dose of strychnine sulphate in a glass of water. After drinking the poison she ran back to the living room of the home and told Leroy, the older nephew what she had done.

Dr. Robert Henderson was summoned and arrived before death took place but was unable to offer aid to the stricken woman. Niles police were also called and the body was taken to the Price and Kiger funeral home. Later one of several notes to relatives, explaining the action was found and the note directed that the body be taken the  Rutherford Funeral home. It was taken there late Thursday evening.

The Rev. M.R. Everett will be in charge of the services from the Rutherford chapel and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery. Mrs. Rodriguez is survived by her husband, Joe Rodriguez and by her mother, Mrs. Charles Weaver.  Two sisters, Mrs. John Weaver of Dowagiac and Mrs. Marshall Weaver of Niles and three brothers also survive. The brothers are Olive Camp of Cedar Rapids, Ia., William Camp of Chicago, and John Bocsen of Niles.
