MRS. WEED DEAD

Remains will be brought to Niles Tomorrow

Mrs. Sarah Weed, a pioneer and highly respected resident of Niles, passed away Sunday morning at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Charles Hudson in Michigan City.

Mrs. Weed was operated upon for cancer of the stomach, eight weeks ago at a hospital in Michigan City and was afterward taken to the home of her daughter.

Mrs. Weed was 64 years of age.  She was born in Illinois but she had long been a resident of Niles.

Besides Mrs. Hudson, another daughter, Mrs. Emil Brandenberg of Chicago survives Mrs. Weed, also a sister who resides in Aurora and a brother who lives in Iowa.

The remains will be brought to Niles tomorrow via the Michigan Central at 12:54 p.m.  and will be taken directly to Silver Brook cemetery where Rev. R. A. Wright of the Methodist church will conduct the committal services.

Friends will be given an opportunity to view the remains at the cemetery.

Mrs. Weed was held in especially high regard as a kind and generous neighbor and friend and many mourn her demise.

 

Young, Bertha I.

Mrs. Bertha I. Young, 63, of 523 Eagle street, died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday at Pawating Hospital. She had been a patient there for 10 weeks, following a five-year illness.

Mrs. Young was born in Marion, Ind., on May 28, 1891, and came here from Marion in  1906. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Ramblers Club.

Besides her husband, Lyle E., she is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Robert Steinbauer, of Springfield, Mo.; two brothers, Mark Feighner, Mo.; a grandson, Jeffrey Steinbauer; two brothers, Mark Feighner, of Niles, and George Feighner, of White Cloud, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Arthur Lindquist and Mrs. . .. [Illegible] . ..

Friends may call at the Kiger Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. C.M. Wetzel officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

 

Zaseck, Eric Lee

Eric Lee Zaseck, week-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Vivian Zaseck, 900 Tomahawk lane, died at 6:15 a.m. today at Memorial Hospital, South Bend.

The child was born on Oct. 7 in Memorial Hospital. Surviving besides the parents  are his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Milo Webster, of Niles, and Mrs. Alice Bourne, of Kalamazoo, and one brother, Todd, at home.

Committal services will be held at 11 a.m Saturday at Silverbrook Cemetery, with the Rev. John G. Carlton, rector of Trinity Episcopal Church, officiating.

Adams, Mary (Pitman)

Mrs. Mary Adams, 85, died in her home at 530 Grant street at 10:50 a.m. Sunday after a month’s illness.  She was born in Sullivan county, Ind., on Oct 2, 1865, and came to Niles from Olive Branch, Ill., on Dec. 17, 1950.

Surviving are two sons, Jesse, of Sullivan, Ind.; and Harvey, of Shelburn, Ind.; two sisters, Mrs. Jane Miller, of Olive Branch; and Mrs. Julia Riggs, of Sullivan; and a brother, Madison Pitman, of Paris, Ill.

Friends may call at the Kiger funeral home where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Homer Steffens officiating.  Burial will be at Silverbrook cemetery.

 

 

Atkinson, Violet R.

Funeral services for Mrs. Violet R. Atkinson, 79, of 16 North Third street, who died at noon Friday at her home after a two-weeks illness, will be held at 3 p.m. Monday at the Methodist church here.   

The Rev. L. G. Beacock, pastor of the Methodist church will officiate.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Mrs. Atkinson was born Aug. 26, 1871, in Ontario, Canada, and came here from Canada in 1903.  Her husband, Robert C., died April 12, 1940.

A graduate of Valparaiso university, Valparaiso, Ind., Mrs. Atkinson taught school in Manistee.  She was a member and teacher of the Philathea class of the Methodist church, of the (illegible text) club, and of the Niles Club of Home Gardens.

Surviving are two sons, Seth R. of Niles, and Lew E. of Altadena, Cal.; two daughters, Mrs. A.F. Wurz of Mishawaka, Ind., and Mrs. Stuart White, of Niles; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Bybee, Jeanne A.

Mrs. Jeanne A. Bybee, 11124 Avenue D., Fair Elms, a suburb of Chicago, died at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the Jackson Park hospital; Chicago.  She had been ill since Thanksgiving day.

Surviving is Mrs. Bybee’s mother, Mrs. Ida Claverdigne; a daughter, Mrs. Joseph Sloan, and a son, C.R. Bybee, all of Chicago.  She had no brothers or sisters.

Mrs. Bybee was born on Dec. 28, 1888, in Chicago.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home on Thursday.  Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

It is unknown today who will officiate at the service according to funeral home, who had no information concerning Niles relatives.

 

Bruner, Carrie Olive

Mrs. Carrie Olive Bruner , 61, of rural route four, died yesterday at Pawating hospital.   She had been ill since Friday.

Mrs. Bruner was born Nov. 27, 1889 in Evansville, Ill.  She married Charles Bruner in Elberfeld, Ind., on April 12, 1908.  They moved to Niles from South Bend seven years ago.

She leaves her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Hubert Horner, of South Bend; and Vera Bruner, at home; two sons, Gordon and Norman, both at home; a granddaughter Mrs. George L. Jerdon; a grandson, and a brother, Samuel Blaney, of Manville, Wyo.

Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Pifer funeral home with the Rev. George Dick, pastor of the First Baptist church in South Bend, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
