DIED: Wednesday morning, Nov. 17th, Miss Mary M. Gillett, aged 17 years, daughter of Cyrus Gillett.

 

Hulett, William D.

NILES—William D. Hulett, 65, of 1525 Inner Dr., died at 5:45 p.m. Monday in Pawating Hospital after an extended illness.

He was a retired employe of Tyler Refrigeration Co.

He was born April 10, 1910 in Warren County, Tenn., where he lived until 1944, then moving to Niles. His wife, Nola T. Hulett, survives.

Other survivors include a son, David and a daughter, Mrs. Fred (Sue) Cramer of Niles; three brothers, Thomas of Dubois, Wyo. Laughton of McMinnville, Tenn., and Hoyt of Manchester Tenn.; a sister, Mrs. Irene Ernsberger of Niles and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in the Halbritter Funeral Home, with the Rev. Raymond C. Cunningham of the First Baptist Church officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call after 1 p.m Wednesday at the funeral home.

 

Nieb, Leon C.

Leon C. Nieb, 1339 Marion  street, who was fatally injured in a two-car accident near Dublin, O., died at 2:30 a.m. Thursday in a hospital at Columbus, O.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Nieb, Barron Lake; his widow, Mary; his children, Leah, Stewart, Elfrida, Russell, Leon Jr., Mary, Bryan and Kathryn, all at home; one sister, Mrs. Larry Sherrick, of Phoenix, Ariz. . .[illegible].

Nieb was born on Jan. 6, 1912, in Vandalia, and had lived in this area all his life. He married Mary Wages on Feb. 10,1934.  

Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today, and services will be held at the Funeral Home at 2 pm. Sunday. Elder L.C. Caviness, pastor of the Seventh-day Adventist Church will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

 

Scott, Ada Prudham

NILES—Mrs. Ada Scott, 84, of 1733 Oak St., died at  a.m today in Pawating Hospital where she had been a patient for three weeks.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday in the Pifer chapel of the Swem-Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Vincent Anderson of the Trinity Episcopal Church officiating.

She was born May 21, 1891, in Hull, England, and came to Niles in 1960 from Battle Creek. She married Gordon Prudham who died in 1960. In 1963, she married Harold A. Scott in Whitehall, N.Y. He died n 1970.

Survivors include a brother, Benjamin Morfitt of Brampton, Ont., and a sister, Mrs. Harold Phillips of St. Augustine Beach, Fla.

Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call after 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Note: Burial is with first husband Gordon Prudham.

Walter, Minnie W. (Wedel)

Mrs. Minnie W. Walter, 83, of 916 North Third, died at 9 a.m. Today in her home following an illness of one year.

Mrs. Walter was born Nov. 2, 1871, in Galien and came to Niles from Three Oaks. She had lived in the home where she died for the past 64 years. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church, the Women's Guild of the church and an honorary member of the Niles-Buchanan Road Home Economics Club.  Her husband, Christ F. Walter, died in 1917.

Surviving are: a daughter, Mrs. Edna M. Gridley, of Niles; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Lucille Wenzel, of Grand Rapids. Two sons preceded her in death. George C. died in 1933 and C. H. Walter died in 1948.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m Friday in st. John's Church with the pastor, the Rev. H.A. Meussling, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.  Friends may call at the Kiger Funeral Home where beginning Wednesday evening.

 

 

Ward, Victor R.

NILES—Funeral services for Victor R. Ward, 81, of 657 N. 12th, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday in the Halbritter Funeral Home. He died at 4:50 p.m Sunday at home after an extended illness.

A veteran of World War I and a member of the First Church of Christ Christian, he was a retired employe of Bendix Corp.

Born May 28, 1894 in Moberly, Mo., he lived here since 1940, coming from Elgin, Ill. He married Lulu K. Eames on Sept. 15, 1920.  She survives.

Also surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Cummings of Niles, four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Officiating at the services will be the Revs. Jack E. VanArsdall and Joe R. Jonson of the First Church of Christ-Christian. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call today at the funeral home. Memorials may be give to the Berrien County Cancer Service or the First Church of Christ-Christian Memorial Fund.

 

Webster, Floy W.

NILES—Floy W. Webster, 80, 540 Oak St., died at 10:20 a.m. Today at Pawating Hospital after a one-day illness.

A retired employe of the Gaffil Oil Co., he was born Nov. 28, 1894 in Niles and had lived his lifetime in this area.

He wife Daisy C. Survives, along with three daughters, Mrs. Charles Noble and Mrs. Horace Freeze, both of Niles, and Mrs. Raymond Zielinski of Chicago; seven step-daughters, Mrs. Catherine Fuller, Mrs. Dorthy Pegan, Mrs. Joan Dunifin, Mrs. Helen Binns, Mrs. Jean Taylor, Mrs. Claudine Schaber and Mrs. Mary Ann Fox, all of Niles; 26 step-grandchildren; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. 

Funeral arrangements are incomplete at the Halbritter Funeral Home, where friends may call from 2 to 4 and from 7 to 9 .m. Tuesday.

NILES—Funeral services for Floy W. Webster, 80 of 540 Oak St., who died at 10:20 a.m. Monday in Pawating Hospital after a one-day illness, will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rev. Robert W. Strauss of Oronoko United Methodist church officiating.
