BATTLE CREEK—Committal services for Richard Alan Ramsby, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard A. Ramsby, 114 Indian Road, who died Tuesday after being born prematurely, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Silverbrook Cemetery.

The Rev. John R. Wyngarden of the First Presbyterian Church will officiate.

Arrangements are being handled locally by the Halbritter Funeral Home.

Niles—Elmer J. Regenos, 61, of 1340 Eagle St., died Tuesday evening in Pawating Hospital, where he had been a patient for two weeks.

A retired truck driver for Tyler Fixture Corp., Mr. Regenos was born May 12, 1908, in Niles and had lived here all his life. He married the former Mamie Kelsey, who survives.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Regenos is survived by a son, Elmer Regenos, Niles; four step-sons, Robert Brocka, Galien, Vernon and Marvin Wilson, both of Niles, and Richard Wilson, Mishawaka; four daughters, Mrs. Eleanor Covington and Mrs. Theresa Cox, both of Niles, Mrs. Gladys Thomas, Shreveport, La., and Mrs. Florence Ferrell, Ft. McCoy, Fla.; a step-daughter, Jane Wilson; three brothers, Paul, Robert and Arthur Regenos, all of Niles; three sisters, Mrs. Guy Walls, Mrs. Alene Cavanaugh and Mrs. Carl Smith, all of Niles; a half-sister, Mrs. Cletus Myers, Niles; 29 grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 p.m. Friday in the Pifer Funeral Home, with the Rev. Ralph Pletcher of Coulter’s Chapel officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Stoll, Arthur F. 1891-1974

NILES—Arthur F. Stoll, 83, formerly of 1018 Cedar St., died at 8:20 a.m. today in the Paul Stephan Nursing Home after an extended illness.

Mr. Stoll was a retired Chevrolet agency owner. Born Feb. 1, 1891, in Niles, he lived here all his life.

On Sept. 16, 1914, in Niles, he married the former Florence A. Parks, who died Sept. 17, 1969.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John D. Slowey of St. Mary’s Catholic Church officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.

           

 

Stoll, Florence A. 1892-1969

NILES—Mrs. Florence A. Stoll, 77, of 1018 Cedar St., was dead on arrival Wednesday afternoon in Pawating Hospital.

Mrs. Stoll was born Sept. 9, 1892, in Niles and had lived here a lifetime. She married Arthur F. Stoll, who survives, on Sept. 16, 1914, in Niles.

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Stoll is survived by a brother, William R. Park, Grand Rapids and a sister, Mrs. Adeline Earl, Miami, Fla.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Halbritter Funeral Home, with the Rt. Rev. Msgr. John D. Slowey of St. Mary’s Catholic Church officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Troost, Thelma D. 1907-2001

Thelma Cook Troost, 93, of St. Joseph Died July 12 in her home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Fairplane Presbyterian Chruch.  Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.  Visitation will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Kerley & Starks Funeral Home in St. Joseph.  Memorial contributions may be made to Fairplane Presbyterian Church or to the Maude Preston Palenske Memorial Library in St. Joseph.

Mrs. Troost was born on July 20, 1907, in Michigan City, Ind.  She was a librarian with the St. Joseph City Public Library for 22 years.  She attended Epworth Hospital Training School for Nurses in South Bend and moved to St. Joseph in 1929.  She was active on the PTA for many years.  Thelma worked at the St. Joseph Sanitarium during World War II. She had been president of the Lianas and also was a member of the Southwest Genealogical Society, Fort Miami Heritage, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.  She was a member of the Fairplain Presbyterian Church.

On July 20, 1927, in Niles, she married Edward Troost.  He preceded her in Death on June 12, 1991.  She was also preceded in death by: an infant daughter in 1931; one daughter, Barbara Troost, on April 12, 1994; and one sister, Bernice Sandel, in January 2001.

Survivors include:  a son, Peter (Sidell) Troost of South Bend; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

SOUTH BEND—Etta E. Van Dusen, 120 N. Frances St., formerly of Niles, died at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in her home, following a six-month illness.

Miss Van Dusen, former owner-manager of the millinery department of the Frances Shop here, was born in Howard Township, Cass County, Mich., and lived most of her life in South Bend.

Surviving are a nephew, Jack Van Dusen, Mishawaka, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Guy Van Dusen, Edwardsburg.

She was a graduate of Niles Senior High School, and a member of the Sunnyside Presbyterian Church here.

Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m., Saturday in the Orvis Funeral Home.  The Rev. Paul E. Chalafant, pastor of her church, will officiate.  Burial will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

Friends will be received at the funeral home from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m., on Friday.

Former Resident of Berrien Center Dies in Indiana

Berrien Center, April 30—Mrs. Cordia Walters[sic], 58, who leaves two nieces and a nephew in Niles, died in a Winchester, Ind., hospital Tuesday afternoon.

She was born in Berrien Center and lived here until her marriage in 1906 to John A. Walters[sic] in 1906.  She had lived her later years in Muncie, Ind.

She was born May 22, 1882.  Beside her husband, she leaves a son, John Jr., and a grandson in Muncie; three sisters, Mrs. Adah Patterson, Mrs. Alice Miller, and Mrs. Sylvia Patterson, all of Berrien Center; and a brother, H.C. Murphy, Indianapolis.  She was the daughter of Erastus and Mary Murphy, pioneers of Berrien Center.

Niles relatives are two nieces, Mrs. Alton Miller and Mrs. Joseph Trattles, and a nephew, Faye Miller.
