Janet M. Hendershott, 67, of Niles, passed away at 12:11 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018, in Lakeland Health, St. Joseph.

Janet was born on March 29, 1951, in South Bend to Ralph W. and Lucia J. (Brothers) Hendershott, Sr. Janet was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Sr.

Janet is survived by her mother, Lucia; brother, Ralph W. (Suzette) Hendershott Jr.; nephew, Levi (Monica) Hendershott; niece, Carisa (Randy) Simpson; great-nephew, Devon Simpson; and great-nieces, Esma Simpson, and Ginger Hendershott. A special thank you from the family goes to cousins Colleen and Mike Klindworth for all their help.

Janet graduated from Brandywine High School and attended Lake Michigan College for two years. She worked as a sales representative for Simplicity Pattern for 38 years. She loved flowers but enjoyed traveling even more. Her travel destinations included Ireland and almost all 50 States including Alaska.

Visitation is from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 22, 2018 at Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Niles, where a rosary will be prayed at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, July 23, 2018 in St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery.

May 7, 1923 – December 21, 2017

Dovie Marie Nelson, 94, of Niles passed away on Thursday, December 21 in the Chalet of Niles.

Marie was born on May 7, 1923 in Tennessee to the late Samuel and Mary Ellen Lowe.

On August 18, 1945 she married Lucian who passed away on January 30, 2010.  She is also preceded by her sons, Kenneth and Mitch.

Marie is survived by her sons, Rick(Debbie) Nelson of Edwardsburg, Greg (Penny)Nelson and Jim Nelson, both of Niles; her daughters, Judy (Glen) Peck and Deb (Bob) Hames of Niles.  She is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Marie was a member of 1st Church of Christ Christian.  She loved to quilt and was an amazing seamstress.  She was a master at playing checkers and she also enjoyed playing Zelda.

Cremation has taken place and private services will be at a later date.

Col. Henry A. Morrow

COL. HENRY A. Morrow, of the First U.S. Infantry, died at Hot Springs, Ark., on Sunday. Col. Morrow was born in Virginia, but came to this state when quite young. In 1862 he raised the 24^th Mich. Inf. and was commissioned Colonel Aug. 15. he was a good officer and was several times promoted until he ranked as Bvt. Major General of volunteers. After the war he was made Lieut. Col. Of the 36^th U.S. Inf., and in 1870 was commissioned Colonel and assigned the First Reg. Inf. He was married before the war to Miss Belle Graves, daughter of the late Maj. Wm. Graves, of Niles, who with four children, survives him. He was about 62 years of age. Funeral in Niles, tomorrow, at 2 o'clock.

*There is discrepancy on date of death. Cemetery record says January 31 date of death; obituary dated Thursday, February 5, says death occurred on Sunday which would have been February 1.

Howard Arthur Bolton  
Aug. 4, 1926 - Dec. 13, 2017

Howard Arthur Bolton, of Naples, FL, died December 13, 2017. He was the husband of Helen Jane (Pohl) Bolton, to whom he was married on February 14, 1953 in New York City.

Howard was born in Cass County, Michigan on August 4, 1926 to Samuel and Lula (Hawkins) Bolton. After graduating from Niles (MI) HIgh School in 1942, he was employed by Associates Investment Co. and the Army Air Corps until he was drafted in 1944. He served with the 96th Division as a machine gunner in the Okinawa campaign and then in the offices of the Fiscal Director, AFWESPAC, Manila and GHQ, Tokyo.

Following military service, he attended the University of Michigan, earning BA and MBA degrees and studied his first year of law there. He moved to New York City in January, 1953 to marry and finish his law studies, earning his JD degree from Columbia University in February 1955.

He immediately joined the New York City law firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, from which he retired as a partner in December, 1982 because of a stroke in 1980. From 1962 until his retirement in 1983, he served as Tax Counsel to the Rockefeller Family, then as tax consultant until 1988.

Howard and Helen moved to Florida in 1986 and have been residents of Bentley Village since 1999. Both have devoted their time to volunteer activities there.

Helen J. Bolton
June 4, 1927 -June 11, 2018

Helen J. Bolton, 91, of Bentley Village, Naples, Florida, died Monday, June 11. She was born in Georgetown, Ohio, June 4, 1927. She married Howard A. Bolton on February 14, 1953 in New York City. While living in New York Helen volunteered at the United Nations as a tutor. She and Howard traveled the world over many times. They moved to Bentley Village in 1999. She was a graduate of the University of Michigan earning her masters. She was fond of Scrabble challenge as well as learning Spanish. She was a volunteer tutor with Bonita Literacy Council, teaching English at Bentley Village many of the years she lived there. 

They spent many summers traveling to Ohio and Michigan, spending summers in St. Joseph, Michigan. 

At her request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. Her ashes will be buried next to her husband's in Silver Brook Cemetery, Niles, Michigan 

Memorial donations may be made to Salvation_Army or the Presbyterian Church of Bonita.
