Howard Arthur Bolton

Howard Arthur Bolton, of Naples, FL, died December 13, 2017. He was the husband of Helen Jane (Pohl) Bolton, to whom he was married on February 14, 1953 in New York City.
Howard was born in Cass County, Michigan on August 4, 1926 to Samuel and Lula (Hawkins) Bolton. After graduating from Niles (MI) HIgh School in 1942, he was employed by Associates Investment Co. and the Army Air Corps until he was drafted in 1944. He served with the 96th Division as a machine gunner in the Okinawa campaign and then in the offices of the Fiscal Director, AFWESPAC, Manila and GHQ, Tokyo.
Following military service, he attended the University of Michigan, earning BA and MBA degrees and studied his first year of law there. He moved to New York City in January, 1953 to marry and finish his law studies, earning his JD degree from Columbia University in February 1955.
He immediately joined the New York City law firm of Milbank, Tweed, Hadley & McCloy, from which he retired as a partner in December, 1982 because of a stroke in 1980. From 1962 until his retirement in 1983, he served as Tax Counsel to the Rockefeller Family, then as tax consultant until 1988.
Howard and Helen moved to Florida in 1986 and have been residents of Bentley Village since 1999. Both have devoted their time to volunteer activities there.
