Carl S. Hayes, 78, of 1119 Wayne St., died at 8 a.m. today in Pawating Hospital. He had been ill since Tuesday, and in failing health about five years.
Mr. Hayes was born Feb. 18, 1885 in Ashville, N.C. He came to Niles from Hamlin, Ind., 40 . . .[illegible] . . .inspector for the New York Central Railroad in 1952.
Surviviors[sic] include his wife, Ava; a son, William, Phoenix, Ariz.; a step-daughter, Mrs. Birdie Pulito, Chicago; a sister, Mrs. Don Young, Ashville; and a brother, Conrad, Alexandria, N.C.
He was a member of the Pioneer Association.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m Tuesday in the Pifer Funeral Home. The Rev. Earl Wickstrom, pastor of the First Baptist church, will officiate. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.
Friends are being received at the funeral home.
