EDWARDSBURG - Margaret E. Stanley, 92 years old, of Edwardsburg, MI, passed to her rest March 13, 2013 at Memorial Hospital of South Bend, IN, after a brief illness. She was born November 26, 1920 in Milton Township, rural Niles, MI, the daughter of Frank and Mary Ellen (Innus) Evers, and has lived in Niles and Edwardsburg most of her life. Margaret was very active in her life. After graduation she worked in Niles for the French Paper Mill during the 1940's. Later she was employed in Food Services for the Dowagiac, MI school system and then at the Edwardsburg Schools, and became Supervisor of the Food Services. She had a 'passion' for politics, the Republican Party. She served as Jefferson Township Treasurer in Cass County for over ten years. She became an officer in the Republican Party and served her county well. She was named 'Republican of the Year' in 2007 in Cass County and was honored with a dinner. Margaret was married January 29, 1949 in Niles, MI to Clifford E. Stanley, and he passed on June 17, 1995. Surviving are their children, Gerald R. 'Jerry' (Ellen) Stanley of Osceola, IN and John David Stanley of Corvallis, OR. There are two grandsons, Gerald R. Stanley of Ft. Collins, CO and Mark Allen Stanley of Jemez Springs, NM. Family who have passed are her husband, her parents, and her brothers, Norman Burch, George Burch, Charles Burch and Gordon Burch. Family and friends may gather at the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, 26863 West Main Street (US-12), Edwardsburg, on Monday, March 18, 2013 from 4:00-7:00 PM. The Service of Remembrance will be Tuesday, March 19, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Hope United Methodist Church, 69941 Elkhart Rd., Edwardsburg, of which she was a member. Officiating will be Rev Jeff Reese, pastor of the church. Interment will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery of Niles, MI, where she will be laid to rest by her beloved husband, Clifford. Memorial donations may be directed to the Edwardsburg Food Pantry, 69941 Elkhart Road, Edwardsburg, Michigan. Arrangements are by the Paul E. Mayhew Funeral Home, Edwardsburg, MI.
