Carl G. Dittmar, 75, of 1950 S. 13th St., Niles, Mich., died following a brief illness at 2:35 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, 1999,  in the Lakeland Medical Center-St. Joseph, Mich.

He was born on Oct. 21, 1924, at Niles, to Clifford and Gertrude (Worm) Dittmar, and was a lifetime resident of Niles.

Mr. Dittmar was a veteran of the U.S. Army Air Force Signal Corps, serving in World War II.  He was a Disabled American Veteran and a member of American Legion Post 26, Niles.  Mr. Dittmar bowled on leagues at Timber Lanes, and enjoyed sports and shuffleboard.

On Dec. 1, 1945, at Berrien Springs, Mich., he married the former I. Rose Robbins, who survives.

He is also survived by his children, Carl L. Dittmar of Mishawaka, Ind., Michael Dittmar of Warsaw, Ind., Scott D. Dittmar of Niles, Inga (Thomas) Wright of South Bend, Ind., and Robin (Donald) Pritchard of Buchanan, Mich.; grandchildren, Christine L. Jordan, Deana M. Shirrell, Stephanie A. Dittmar, Rebecca L. Dittmar, Deon M. Dittmar, Jennifer E. Dittmar, Derek A. Wright, Rochelle R. Reeves, Jessica J. Wright and Tasha M. Dittmar; and by great-grandchildren, Nicholas Rockwell, Sean Rockwell, David Jordan, Carley Shirrell, Cortney Shirrell, Ashley Simpson, Allison Wagley and Chelsey Bennett.

Mr. Dittmar was preceded in death by a sister, Alta Marie Marriott.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 16, in the Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, with Mr. Derek Wright of Niles officiating.

Full military rights, officiated by John McLaughlin, commander of American Legion Post 26, Niles, and American Legion Post 51, Buchanan, will follow the committal at the graveside at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles. Committal service will be officiated by Pastor John Abbott of the Niles Westside Seventh-day Adventist Church.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday in the Halbritter Funeral Home.

Contributions in memory of Mr. Dittmar may be made to American Legion Post 26 in Niles.
