Laura L. Mattix Succumbs Today

Mrs. Laura Louise Mattix, 61, of 1606 Oak street, died at 11:05 this morning in Pawating hospital following an illness of five years.

Born in LaPorte, Ind., May 4, 1885, she came to Niles from Michigan City, Ind., in 1919 and has resided here since that time. She was a member of the First Presbyterian church and of the Eastern Star in Niles.

Survivors are her husband, Fred Mattix, two sons, Roger and John, both of Niles, and three grandchildren.

Services have been set for Monday at 2 p.m. in the Pifer funeral home with the Re  v. T.M. Greenhoe, . . .[illegible]. ., will be officiating. Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home until the time of services.

MILLARD FUNERAL TUESDAY

The body of Edward G. Millard, 59, was  brought to Niles this afternoon from Glendora, Calif., where he died on Feb. 27, and was taken to the Rutherford Funeral home where the funeral services will be conducted tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock. The Rev. Metzler, pastor of the Church of Brethern of Nappannee[sic], Ind., will officiate. Burial will be made in Silver Brook cemetery. Mr. Miller had made his home with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Frank May, R.R. 1, east of Barron lake until last October when he went to California for the benefit of his health.  He is survived by eight children who are Atlee Millard, Clayton Anglemeyer and Mrs. Nora Kronk, Nappanee, Ind., Lester Millard, Indianapolis, Harold and Carol Millard of Elkhart, Ind., Mrs. Nettie Thomas, residing south of Niles near the state line and Mrs. Frank May of Niles. The deceased was a member of the Moose lodge at St. Joseph, Mo. and the Niles lodge. Besides the children 10 grand children and one great grandchild survives.

Niles News in Brief: FUNERAL E.G. MILLARD

Funeral services for Edward G. Millard whose body was brought t Niles on Monday afternoon from Glendora, Calif., were held this morning. The Rev. Metzler, pastor of the Church of the Brethern in Nappanee, Ind., officiated. Burial was made in Silver Brook cemetery. The Niles lodge of Moose assisted in the services. Before going to California last October, Mr. Millard made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Frank May, who resides east of Barron Lake.

Mrs. Tincy Pankow Dies Sunday After Five-Year Illness

Mrs. Tincy Piccola Pankow, 63, died Sunday at 1 p.m. in her home at 7 South Twelfth Street. She had been ill for five years.

She was born in Winamac, Ind., Feb. 16, 1883, and came to Niles 25 years ago from Michigan City, Ind.  She was married April 24, 1904, in Winamac, to Henry Pankow, by Dr. Guy W. Simon.

Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Mrs. Eunice I. Kocher, Miss Inez Pankow and . .[illegible] home; one grandson, Kenneth L. Kocher, at home; and two brothers and six sisters, all residents of Indiana.

Services will be conducted Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. from the Kiger funeral home, with the Rev. T.M. Greenhoe officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.  Friends may call at the Kiger funeral home until time of the services.

She was a member of Chi-Gan-Cy lodge.  Members of the lodge are asked to meet at the funeral home Wednesday at 1 p.m. to attend the service in a group.

Clarence Pfeil

Clarence Pfeil Succumbs Today, Ill Four  Weeks

Clarence Pfeil, 41, lifelong resident of Niles, died at 9 a.m. today at his home, [illegible], after an illness of four weeks.

Born near Niles on March 28, 1895, he spent his entire life here and was employed by the Michigan Central railroad. He was married here in 1924 to Miss Frances Thatcher, who survives him. Pfeil was a member of the Elks lodge, the American Legion and Pioneers of World War I.

Hold Funeral Thursday

Other survivors are two children, Clarence, Jr., and Mrs. Bernice Stephens, both of Niles; two brothers and three sisters: John and Arthur Pfeil, Miss Pauline Pfeil and Mrs. Edward Hahn, all of Niles, and Mrs. Frank Albright, South Bend.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral  home, where services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday with the Rev. Theo Eisen, pastor of St. John's Evangelical church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Services Tuesday for Herbert Reum Who Died Sunday

Herbert L. Reum, 42, of 1015 North Eighth street, died Sunday at 8:50 a.m. in Pawating hospital after an illness of one year.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Rose Reum of 502 Cass street, his wife, Mrs. Minna Reum, at home; two sisters, Mrs. Wavel Godman, 525 Grant street; Mrs. Alice Malone, 328 South Fourth street; three brothers, Carl Reum, 1209 North Seventh Street; John and Leo, both of Niles; and one step-son, Marcus B. Marks, at home.

He was born in Niles, Jan. 6, 1904, and has lived here his entire life. He was employed by the Michigan Central railroad.

Marguerite Sherbino

Mrs. M. Sherbino Dies in Hospital, Funeral Wednesday

Services will be held Wednesday for Mrs. Marguerite Sherbino, 213 Clay street, who died Sunday, at 9 p.m. in Pawating hospital following a stroke suffered four days ago.

Born Feb. 18, 1894 in Elkhart, Ind., she was 52 years old. She was married here in 1911 to Stanley Sherbino, who preceded her in death in 1941. Mrs. Sherbino had lived in Niles for the past 40 years.

Survivors Named

Surviving are her mother, Mrs. Paul Barbour, Niles; four children, Mrs. Henry Snouwaert, rural route four, Merrill, Ronald B. and Mrs. George Scott, all of Niles; two grandchildren; and a sister, Mrs. Harry Dalstrom, Niles.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home, until time of the services which will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
