Mrs. Julia M. Sorenson, 67, of 2119 East Main Street, died at 7:10 p.m. Thursday in Pawating Hospital following an illness of three weeks. She entered the hospital on April 6.

Mrs. Sorenson was born Aug. 15, 1887, in Missouri Valley, Ia., and came to Niles 30 years ago from Moberly, Mo. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and the American Legion Auxiliary.

Surviving are: five sons, Walter, Archie, Clifford and Marvin, all of Niles, and Eugene, of Neenah, Wis.; two grandchildren; a brother, Henry Witt, of Clinton, Ia., and two sisters, Mrs. Annie Cassiday, of Missouri Valley, and Mrs. Olive Jones, of Tuscon[sic], Ariz.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Paul's Lutheran church with the pastor, the Rev. Theo Laesch, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call at the Kiger Funeral Home.

BUCHANAN — Infant Jacob Martin Smith died at 11:12 a.m. Monday following birth at Pawating Hospital, Niles.

Survivors include his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack F. Smith, 407 Main St., Buchanan; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Jack J. Smith of Niles and Mrs. Wesley Cox of Niles; two brothers, Matthew at home, and Adam F. (his twin).

Graveside services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday in Silverbrook Cemetery with the Rev. Paul Ferry of Coulter's Chapel officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Local funeral arrangements were handled by Halbritter Funeral Home.

NILES — James L. Pierson of 2324 Carruthers St., died at 10:05 a.m. Saturday at Pawating Hospital, following a lengthy illness.

A resident of the county since 1948, he was a retired employee of the Clark Equipment Co., Buchanan.

His wife, Elsie Mae Pierson, died March 28, 1974.

Survivors include a step-daughter, Sandra Dee Hardin of Lake Village, Ark.; an aunt, Lillie Mae Worsham of Niles, and the Willie Pritchett Family of Niles.

Funeral services will be at 1:30 pm. Thursday at the Pifer-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Fletcher McAfee of Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call after 7 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mrs. Lisette Jayson, 82, of 1451 South Union Street, Milwaukee, Wis., mother of Birton Jayson, of Niles died Monday at Miserecordia Hospital in Milwaukee following an illness of one month.

Mrs. Jayson was born Sept. 6, 1872, in Milwaukee, and formerly lived at 522 Howard Street in Niles until moving to Wisconsin 20 years ago. She was a member of St. Martini Lutheran church in Milwaukee. Her husband, William, died in 19928[sic].

Surviving besides the son are: a grandson in Niles; a sister, Mrs. Robert Peterson, of Milwaukee, and a brother, Arno Degnitz, of [illegible], Wis.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. (EST) Friday in the Gerber Funeral Home in Milwaukee. Following services there the body will be brought to the Kiger Funeral Home here. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Silverbrook Cemetery with the Rev. Theo Leasch, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, officiating.

Irwin, Eli 1890-1949

Eli Irwin, 56 South Third street, who died at 4:25 p.m. Saturday in his home, received last rites at 2 p.m. today at the Pifer funeral home, where services were conducted by the Rev. L. George Beacock. Burial was in Silverbrook cemetery.

Surviving besides his mother, Mrs. Mary E. Irwin, of Downers Grove, Ill., are his widow, Grace, and their two sons, Winston and Max Irwin, both of Niles; a brother, Wilmer Irwin, of Moline, Ill., and two sisters, Mrs. Samuel Clark of Downers Grove, and Mrs. H.J. Helble, of Decatur, Ga.

Irwin was born in Cable, Ill., Dec. 22, 1890, and had lived here for the past 22 years. He was a barber for A.R. Henderson for the past 20 years, and was a member of Modern Woodmen.

Mrs. Eva F. Gallagher, 85, of 526 South Ironwood Drive, South Bend, died at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday in the Bundy Nursing Home following an illness of one and a half years.

Mrs. Gallagher was born Feb. 27, 1870, in New York City and moved to Niles from Chicago in 1928. She lived in Niles until 1946 when she moved to South Bend. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and the White Shrine. Her husband, James F. Gallagher, died on May 1, 1933.

Surviving are: two daughters, Mrs. Bert S. Daley, of Niles, and Mrs. Charles E. Hubler, of Chicago; two sons, James K. Gallagher, of Dowagiac, and Clarence N. Gallagher, of Ypsilanti; eight grandchildren, and a sister, Mrs. George Lightfoot, of Bass Lake, Ind.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Kiger Funeral Home here with the Rev. T. M. Greenhoe, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

NILES -- Word has been received here of the death Sunday in San Pedro, Calif., of Leo E. (Tim) Clark Jr., 36.

NILES – Word has been received here of the death at 3:30 p.m. Sunday of Leo E. (Tim) Clark Jr., 36, of San Pedro, Calif. He died at his home.

A construction worker, Mr. Clark was born Jan. 13, 1942 in Niles and moved to California in 1979.

Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Anne M. Clark of Niles; a son, Timothy Paul of Niles; and grandmothers, Mrs. Earl A. Clark of Niles and Mrs. Marie Pettit of Belleview, Fla.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rev. Donald L. Harris of Westminster Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
