JOHN F. RIBBLE, 87, DIES IN SOUTH BEND

Was Born on Farm in Howard Township, Cass County in 1845

 

John F. Ribble, a former resident of Niles, died in his home, 227 Williams street, in South Bend, this morning at 8 o'clock. Today marked the 87th anniversary of his birth.  The body was brought to Niles and is at the Rutherford Funeral home. The services will be held in the funeral home on Saturday afternoon at 3 o'clock. Burial will be made in Silverbook cemetery. The Rev. Robert Meader, pastor of the Methodist church, will conduct the services.

Mr. Ribble was born on a farm in Howard township on Oct. 27, 1845 and grew to young manhood in this community.  He moved to South Bend 14 years ago. He was married 48 years ago to Jennie Haas, of Howard township, who survives him. Besides the widow he is survived by two twin sons, Fred Ribble of Chicago and Frank Ribble of Niles, and by three sisters who are Mrs. Charles H. Johnson and Mrs. Julia Childs of Niles and Mrs. Frank Willard of South Bend. Mr. Ribble was a twin brother of Amos Ribble who died in Niles on Dec. 31, 1931. Two granddaughters also survive Mr. Ribble, Miss Marian Ribble, a Niles high school student, and Mrs. Walter Milslagle, of Indianapolis, the latter a daughter of Mrs. Clarence Parmallee, who died seven years ago.

 

Rickard, Howard

Howard Rickard, 65 of 612 1/2 South Lincoln avenue, succumbed today at 3:30 a.m at the Berrien Center hospital, where he had been ill since March 17.

Born in Philadelphia, Pa., June 12, 1881, he came to Niles from there in 1918. He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Ida Rickard, Ni and five brothers and sisters: Mrs. Mabel Huffman, Berrien Center; William Rickard of Florida; Charles Rickard and Mrs. Margaret Trego, both of Philadelphia, and Walter Rickard, Chicago.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home where services will be conducted on Tuesday at 2 p.m. by the Rev. G.A. Steeeby. Interment will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Rodgers, Carl F.

Services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Kiger funeral home for Carl F. Rodgers, who died yesterday in Akron, O. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery with the Rev. [illegible] officiating.

Surviving are his wife, the former Blanche Dougan; and aunt, Mrs. Grace Tuesley, Edwardsburg; and three cousins, Peter Rodgers, Niles; Paul Tuesley, Edwardsburg; and Malcolm Tuesley, South Bend.

Rodgers had been ill several months in Akron where he had been employed for 20 years by the Goodyear Tire and Rubber company.

The body will arrive in Niles Friday afternoon. Friends may call at the funeral home.

 

Ross, John

DEATH JOHN ROSS

John Ross, employed in Niles for several years at shoe shining shops, died on Saturday afternoon in Pawating hospital after an operation.  He had a room at 126 1/2 N. Second street. The body is at the Rutherford Funeral home. The funeral services will be held probably on Wednesday and will be in charge of Niles friends of the deceased. He had an aunt and uncle in Kentucky.

GEORGE N. ROWLEE TAKEN BY DEATH

 

George N. Rowlee, 73, died Sunday morning in his home on Route 3. He had lived in the community 42 years, coming here from Fulton, N.Y., where he was born in 1866.

Services will be in the Price and Kiger funeral chapel Wednesday afternoon at 2, with burial in Silverbrook. The Rev. G.W. Simon will officiate. Friends of the family may call at the funeral home until noon Wednesday.

Mr. Rowlee had been ill more than a year. Prior to his illness he had operated the farm where he had lived nearly half a century.

He was married in Niles to Miss Mary Alice DeMott, who survives; other members of the family are two daughters, Mrs. Lottie June Bartlett and Mrs. Catherine Clare, Niles; a brother, B.D. Rowlee, and a sister, Mrs. Nellie Ives, both of Fulton, N.Y.; also five grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Pallbearers at the funeral Wednesday afternoon will be . .[illegible]. .Chamberlain, Arthur Beebe and Henry Camp.

Funeral services for Woodrow Wilson Ruttschaw, who died on Satruday in the home for afflicted children at Lapeer, will be held at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon in the Troost & Augustine chapel. Burial will be made in Silverbrook cemetery.

Sanford, Henry L.

Death of H.L. Sanford

 

Henry L. Sanford, 78, a former resident of the Bend of the River neighborhood, died this morning in the home of his son, Glen D. Sanford, 417 W. Front street, in Buchanan. Mr. Sanford was born in Oswego county, New york on June 29, 1853. He was married in Fulton to Miss Anna Belle DeMott on March 12, 1880. They moved to the farm of her father, John DeMott, in 1910 in the Bend of the River where Mrs. Sanford died in 1911.  In 1931 Mr. Sanford went to Buchanan to reside with his son, Glen. Mr. Sanford is survived by two sons, Floyd Sanford of Fulton, N.Y., and Glen D. Sanford of Buchanan, and by two daughters, Mrs. Fred Phillips of Niles, and Mrs. Dort Dutton of Spokane, Wash., who has been in Buchanan for several weeks. The funeral services will be held on Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the home of Mr. and Mrs .Glen Sanford. Burial will be made in Silver Brook cemetery in Niles.
