Anthony Workman, 77, of Niles, passed away on Saturday, July 30, 2022, at Lakeland Hospital in Niles.

He was born on March 9, 1945, to the late Don and Jean (Frucci) Workman in Niles Michigan.
On Dec. 21, 1996, he wed Carol Percy. Anthony worked at Clark Equipment for several years. He and Carol loved caring for the neighborhood stray cats, along with their three housecats (Jesse, Sally and Zoey) Anthony loved spending time with his granddaughter, Heather and great-granddaughter’s, Nevaeh and Legna. He was very particular about his yard, it was meticulously cared for, along with his vehicles and shoes.

Anthony held a very strong political view, he enjoyed sharing his opinion with anyone around him. He was a Trump supporter. He was especially vocal about the armed forces, he was proud of his time spent in the Army, and you would always see him wearing some form of camo. He received two (2) purple hearts and other military honors after serving in the Vietnam War. He loved to hunt, fish, and listen to music. He enjoyed watching football, race car driving, and the news.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Carol, and his brother, Larry.
Anthony is survived by his sons, Tony, and Rodney; granddaughter, Heather, great-grandchildren, Nevaeh, Legna, Kyle (Brittnie), Jacob, and Savannah; great-great-grandchildren, Drayce, and Brynlee; nieces, Kim, and Jean; nephew, Toby; great-niece, Ashley; great-nephew Cory, two great-great-nephews; and Carol’s daughter Sherri.

In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place, and he will be laid to rest next to his “Honey” wife Carol.

Danielle “Dani” D. Armstrong, 39, of Zeeland and formerly of Niles, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2022.

Dani was born on December 22, 1982, to Day and Joanne (Otwell) Armstrong. Dani loved watching sports and playing basketball in high school. She graduated from Brandywine High School in 2002. Dani also had a soft spot in her heart for nature, animals, and above all her two sons. She loved and cherished her sons, Jordan and Connor, more than anything.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Joanne Armstrong.
Dani is survived by her father, Day Armstrong of South Bend; sons, Jordan and Connor, both of South Bend; brother, Shane Armstrong of Holland, Michigan; and many extended family members and close friends.

A memorial service to honor Dani’s life will be held on Thursday, Aug. 18, 2022, at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services in Niles at 1:30 p.m., with a time of visitation one hour prior. Dani will be laid to rest at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles next to her mother.

Charles William Haase, Jr., 66, of Niles, MI, passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022.

He was born Nov. 14, 1955, in Niles, MI to the late Donna and Charles William Haase, Sr. Charles graduated from Niles High School in the Class of 1974. On Oct. 28, 1978, he married Linda Kay Hawkins in Niles, MI.

Charles is survived by his wife, Linda Haase; son, Mark (Wendy) Haase; brothers, Richard (Sandra) Haase, John (Wanda) Sexton; sister, Nancy (Terry) Chavers; and granddaughter, Macy Haase.

Celebration of Life for Charles will be held by the family from 1-3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 1340 Sycamore St., Niles, MI 49120. Arrangements have been entrusted to Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, MI. Online condolences may be made at www.hovenfunerals.com.

Leona Early, age 95 years, of Niles, MI passed away Aug. 8, 2022.

Leona was born on June 25, 1927, to Laurel and Velma Young in Niles, MI. She graduated from Niles High School.She was employed by Tyler’s Refrigeration and Simplicity Pattern of Niles.

Leona was a member of St. Johns United Church of Christ as well as the Elks & the American Legion Auxiliary.
Leona enjoyed playing golf, bowling, as well as baking, sewing and was a great cook.

On June 27, 1948, Leona married Fred Early with whom she celebrated 62 years of marriage.
Surviving family includes Jim (Ann) Early of Grand Rapids, MI, Sandy Early of Grand Rapids, Gary (Vicki) Early of Ft. Wayne, IN and Diane Early of Niles. She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren & 11 great grandchildren.

Leona was preceded in death by her husband Fred.

The funeral service for Leona Early will be a graveside service at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles on Aug. 20, 2022 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Patti Crothers officiating.

Obituary of Jose Maria Franco

Jose M. Franco, 79, of Niles, passed away at his residence, on August 19, 2022, surrounded by his loved ones.

He was born on September 12, 1942 in Tivoli, Texas to the late Lupe and Cecilia (Gonzales) Franco.

Jose was retired from the courthouse in the city of Rockport, Texas where he worked for many years as head of maintenance. He was an avid bike rider and enjoyed watching sports, especially the Chicago White Sox and the Texas Astros and the Longhorns. He also enjoyed time spent with his family. He will be fondly remembered for always being in a good mood and easy going.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Jose is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Eucebio and Linda Franco of Niles, Michigan; his four nephews, Eucebio “Little Jimmy” Franco-Travier of Indianapolis, Indiana, Xavier De Franco of South Bend, Indiana, Eucebio “Shy” Franco-Berry of South Bend, Indiana and Onyshius Franco-Berry of Monroe, Michigan and many great-nieces and nephews and a ton of cousins in Texas and countless friends all over.  

Graveside services will be held on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at 2:00p.m. at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles.

Veronica Beth Patterson, 49, of Bridgman passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at her home.

Veronica was born on March 6, 1973, in Stratford, New Jersey, the daughter of Anthony and Barbara (Heaton) Belfino. First and foremost, Veronica cherished her children. In her free time, she enjoyed fishing, camping, going to the casino and cooking for others. Veronica’s compassion for others, wisdom, and insightfulness was admired and will be missed by all that knew her and loved her.

Survivors include her former husband: Andy Vernon; children: Anthony Michael Belfino and Olivia Rhonda Vernon; siblings: Patti (Ted) Coffeen and Erica Richardson; numerous nieces and nephews.

Veronica was also preceded in death by her father: Anthony Belfino and her son: Nathan Angel Vernon.

Obituary

Burl K. Boyer, 83, of Haines City, Florida passed away on August 19, 2022. Burl was born on November 5,1938 in Benton Harbor, Michigan to Kenneth Boyer and Marguerite Inglerite Boyer. Burl proudly served our country in the US Marines Corps from 1958 to 1961 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Corporal and received the Good Conduct Medal, 1st award. Burl worked for The Michigan Department of Transportation, Maintenance Division for 25 years, retiring in 1990. Burl was of the Methodist faith.  

Burl loved his family dearly, and he truly enjoyed getting visits and phone calls from his children. In his younger years Burl enjoyed traveling, especially to Northern Michigan. Burl also enjoyed telling stories about the past, always putting a smile on someone’s face. He enjoyed watching TV, particularly Western and Syfy movies, watching airplanes from any location, and riding his golf cart through the neighborhood, and lots of pepper on many foods. Burl will always be remembered by his family and friends as an easy going and friendly man.  

He is preceded in death by his parents, and his twin brother, Bruce Boyer. Burl leaves behind to cherish his memory, his loving companion of 35 years, Cynthia Boyer; son, Burl E. “Skip” Boyer; daughters, Ginger Bicks and husband, Steven and Jamie Manas and husband, Tony; grandchildren, Derrick Inglis, Samuel Bicks and Aaron Bicks; and nephews, Craig Boyer and B. Todd Boyer. 

A Graveside service will take place on Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at Silverbrook Cemetery at 11:00am with Military Honors provided by the United States Marine Corps.
