Niles – Mae A. (Starke) Sherrick, 102, passed away at 3:30am on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 in Woodland of Longmeadow.

Mae was born on September 15, 1916 in Niles to the late Charles and Anna Mae (Thompson) Starke. On April 15, 1939, Mae married Joseph C. Sherrick and he passed away on April 4, 1987. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Mildred, Joseph, and Rae

Mae is survived by her son, Ed (Sandy) Sherrick; grandchildren, Kelly (Becky) Sherrick, and Joshua (Robyn) Sherrick; and great-grandchildren, Iris Lehman, Kyle Sherrick, Jacob Sherrick, Joseph Sherrick, and Jillian Sherrick.

Mae worked as a Probation Officer for Berrien County. She was a member of 1st Presbyterian Church for 87 years.

Family and friends may gather at 1st Presbyterian Church for a Memorial Service at 10am on Monday, April 15, 2019, which would have been Joseph and Mae’s 80th wedding anniversary. Private Burial will take place in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Patricia Walker, 78, passed away at 11:14 p.m. on April 14, 2019, in Lakeland Health in Saint Joseph.

Patricia was born on Aug. 28, 1940, in Chelsea, Massachusetts, to the late James A. and Selena K. (Noseworthy) Brown. Patricia was also preceded in death by her husband, Lloyd “Barney” Walker and daughter, Margaret “Maggie” Harris.

Patricia is survived by her daughters, Jodi (David) Whitaker and Cindy (Dale) Webber; son-in-law, Michael (Maggie) Harris; grandchildren Deane Loging, Faith Loging, and Zachary Harris; great-grandchildren, Rosalie Loging, and Dash Loging; brother, Aubrey “Cliff” Brown; and sister, Marion “Maze” Martin.

Patricia was one of nine children.

She retired after 13 years of service from the Deli at Martin’s Super Market and had also worked at the American Legion. She was involved with dance classes for her girls, enjoyed their recitals, and watching Jodi play softball. She enjoyed crocheting and doing puzzles. She was very involved at the American Legion including Flag Detail at the Cemetery. Patricia was a big fan of the Boston Red Sox and the New England Patriots. She had a great love for the American Eagle and the American Flag.

Visitation will be from 3 to 6 p.m. on Monday, April 22, 2019, in Halbritter-Wickens Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St., Niles.

A celebration of Patricia’s life will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 23, 2019, in the funeral home with Pastor Jeff Whittaker officiating. Burial will follow in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Connie L. Kupper, 75, of Niles, passed away at her daughter’s home on Sunday, March 10, 2019, with her loving family by her side.

Connie was born on Nov. 7, 1943, in Buchanan, to Leonard and Allene (Lolmaugh) Copper.

After graduating from the Niles Adult Education program in 1979, while working at Simplicity Pattern Company and later as a nursing assistant at Lakeland Hospital. She married Richard H. Kupper at St. Paul Lutheran Church on Nov. 6, 1971, where she was a lifelong member. Connie was an avid reader, she enjoyed watching Heartland, The Price Is Right, University of Michigan football, and the Super Bowl on TV. She was known to visit the casino occasionally, and maybe purchase a few lottery tickets. Her most treasured time was spent with her family, especially her great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Donald Copper.

Connie is survived by her loving husband, Richard, of Niles; her daughters, Diane (Ronnie) Batson, of Niles and MaryJo (Sam) Udell, of Niles; grandchildren, Brett Batson, of Niles, and Brittany (David) Dykema, of Niles; and two great-grandchildren, Jax and Lola Dykema; sister-in-laws, Rose (Ray) Richmond, Kathryn (Lonnie) Horvath and Mary Cooper, all of Niles; a host of friends including Pat and Bob Frame, of Niles, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A time of visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home on Thursday, March 14, 2019. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 15, 2019, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Joseph Liss officiating. An interment will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Memorial contributions in her memory may be made to the Niles-Buchanan Relay for Life or St. Paul’s Lutheran Church-Ladies Aid.

Augustine was preceded in death by her father, Alonzo Moss; mother, Dessie Lee Cobb; sister, Monie Kay Murphy; brothers, Larry Fox Sr, Dwight Moss, Leroy Cobb Jr, and Kenny Cobb.

She leaves to cherish her memory husband of 42 years, Clay Kyles; sons, Terrance Alonzo Moss of Niles, Alvin Kyles Jr of Niles, Aaron Kyles of Niles; sisters, Margaret Ann Danquah of Niles, Norma “Jean” Bradley of South Bend, Darlene Macon of South Bend, Regina West Lucas, Yolanda Moss, Melissa Moss, Estelle Moss, Lisa Anderson, Debbie Pigee, Carla Hill; brothers, David Moss, Dwayne West; 17 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, and a host of family and friends.

Robert “Gene” Eugene Lintz, 68, of Niles, passed away at his home on March 23, 2019, with his wife and stepchildren by his side.

Gene was born on March 30, 1950, to the late Everett and Marion (McBain) Lintz in Niles. He left school in the 8th grade to work and then in 1969, he

joined the United States Army until the end of 1971. He was a combat engineer and attended college classes while in the service. He was employed setting up mobile homes for clients in Florida until 1999 when he moved to Michigan. In 2001 Gene married Patricia (Rockwell) Wetzel. Gene loved spending time with his cats, especially Popeye and LJ.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and one sister.

Gene is survived by his wife, Patricia Lintz; step-children Lisa, Jeffrey, and Jason Wetzel; children, Anna and Robert; several brothers, sisters, nieces, nephews, extended family members and close friends.

Gene was interred at Silverbrook Cemetery with full military honors.

Joyce Miller, 91, of Niles, passed away at her house with her family by her side on Monday, Feb. 25, 2019.

Joyce was born on Aug. 18, 1927, in Niles, to the late Thurston and Ardella (Evick) Gentry.

On April 15, 1951, she married Theodore ‘Ted’ Miller who survives.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister Jean Gentry; brothers, Frank and Jarrell and her son-in-law Keith Kirkdorfer.

She is survived by her husband Ted, their children; Pam (Elgon) Ellis, of Brimley, Michigan, Joe (Lillie) Miller, of Arlington, Texas, Cindy Kirkdorfer, of Edwardsburg, grandchildren; Aaron, Aarick and Landon (Maggie) Asmus, Brian, Larry and Jeff Ellis, Cameron (Karla) Mendenhall, Brooke Mendenhall, Daniel, Kayla and Rachel Miller, great-grandchildren; Brandon, Myah and Garrett Asmus, Kadin and Samuel Goetz, Nathan and Cole Krupp, Dylan and Colten Mendenhall, Jackson Caram, Nick (Christina) Ellis, Kassie Ellis, Brooke (Aaron) DePalma, great-great-granddaughters; Ophilia and Penelope DePalma and many nieces, nephews and extended family.

Joyce graduated from Central High School, in Niles, in 1945. She then worked at a mushroom factory, in Niles and Kawneer. From there she worked for Spiegel Catalog doing phone survey research. Joyce sold Chicago Sun Times over the phone and worked in the office of Thiesen-Clemans Oil Company.

From October 1966 until September 1993, she worked for Simplicity Pattern Company in the Discard Department. Her last nine years there she worked in the Discard Department. Joyce continued to keep busy after her retirement by doing demonstrations at Walmart.

Joyce loved to sew. Over the years, she has sewed hundreds of lap robes and baggies for walker and has donated all of them to nursing homes. When she was younger, she loved to go camping. More recently, she enjoyed playing Dominos, word searches, jig saw puzzles and reading. Joyce really loved being a member of Calvary Chapel Church.

Visitation for Joyce will be from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019, in Calvary Chapel 53494 Fir Road Granger. A funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will take place in Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

Radewald, Virginia Marie (Totzke)

Virginia Marie Radewald, 93 of Niles, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 28, 2019 at Hanson House in Stevensville, Mich.

Virginia was born on July 16, 1925 in Lincoln Township, Mich., to the late August M. and Emma E. (Nitz) Totzke.

On Feb. 4, 1951, in Baroda, Mich., she married Edwin A. Radewald who passed away on January 28, 2009.

Virginia is preceded in death by her parents, her husband Edwin and her brother Gerald "Bud" Totzke.

Virginia is survived by her children: Marie (John) Parsey of Phoenix, Ariz., Lois (Fred) Thurnherr of Colden, N.Y., Jean (Curt) Loutzenhiser of South Bend, Ind., and Vern (Laura) Radewald of Excelsior, Minn.; grandchildren: Karen Radewald, Brent Radewald, Stephen Parsey, Carolyn Parsey, Emily Thurnherr, Joshua Loutzenhiser and Jessica Tysman; great-grandchildren: Daren, Randy and Braydon Loutzenhiser; Austin and Alaina Shively; and Parker and Payton Tysman. She also is survived by her sister, Stella Bowers, of Comstock Park, Mich., and her brother Edgar Totzke of Berrien Springs, Mich.

Virginia graduated from Stevensville High in Stevensville, Mich. She had been a teacher at Benton Harbor and Berrien Springs schools for 12 years before being business manager for Radewald Farms for the next 25 years. She was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ. Virginia also belonged to the John Deere Two Cylinder Club and was a Lifetime Alumni Member of Western Michigan University. She was active with the Berrien County Youth Fair, was a 4-H Leader and a member of the Berrien County Association of Churches. Virginia enjoyed sewing, embroidery and cooking. She loved history. Michigan history and local history were her favorites. Virginia also enjoyed genealogy and family history. She was a Chicago Cubs fan.

Visitation for Virginia will be on Tuesday, March 5, 2019 from 4-8 p.m. at Halbritter Wickens Funeral Home, 615 E. Main St. A funeral service will be celebrated on Wednesday, March 6 at 11 a.m. at St. John's United Church of Christ, 601 Sycamore St., Niles.

Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery.
