McIntire, Jessie L.

Jessie L. McIntire

Jessie L. McIntire, 89, of 2615 U. S. 31 North, Lot 58, Niles, Mich., died Wednesday, Aug. 30, 2000,  in Lakeland Regional Medical Center, Niles, of natural causes.

She was born on Sept. 19, 1910, in Vandalia, Mich. She was a homemaker, played bingo, made dolls and crochet.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Bright in 1967; a daughter, Donna Mae Clements; and by two sons, Kenny Bright and Michael Raynes.

She was also married to John McIntire, but later divorced.

She is survived by three daughters, Ruth F. Smith of South Bend, Ind., Connie Baxter of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Kathy Payton of Little Rock, Ark.; four sons, Donald W. Bright, Jr., Kenneth McIntire and Michael McIntire, all of Niles; and John McIntire of South Bend; a sister, Mary Bybee of Niles; a brother, Charles Lintz; and by 21 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5, in Pifer/SMITH Funeral Home, Niles, with burial at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles.

Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Sept. 4, in the Pifer/SMITH Funeral Home.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donors choice.

McFadden, Gracie

Gracie McFadden
July 22, 1900-Feb. 22, 1994

Gracie McFadden, 93, 1630 Huron St., Niles, died Tuesday  Feb. 22, 1994, in Pawating Hospital. Mrs. McFadden was born July 22, 1900, in Louisville, Miss. She married Jesse McFadden, who preceded her in death. Surviving are nieces and nephews.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in Pifer-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call one hour before services Friday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Niles-Buchanan Senior Citizens Center.

McDaniel, Minnie M.

Minnie M. McDaniel

Minnie M. McDaniel, 94, of Niles, died at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday Jan. 3, 2006, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, of natural causes. She was born Nov. 30, 1911 Graveside services will be at noon Friday at Silverbrook Cemetery. There will be no visitation. Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan, is handling arrangements.

McCormick, Andrew David

Andrew D. McCormick
Dec. 16, 1923-March 5, 1997

Mr. Andrew David McCormick, 73, of 1289 Missions East Drive, Niles, Mich., passed away following an extended illness at 6:38 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5,  1997,,at Saint Joseph's Medical Center, South Bend, Ind.

He was born on Dec. 16, 1923, in Niles, to Andrew David and Anna Marie Seitz McCormick, and lived in this area all his life. He graduated from Niles High School in 1942, and was employed for 35 years at the National-Standard Company, Niles, having retired in 1980 as a supervisor in the Shipping and Testing Departments.

He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Army with the 132nd Combat Engineers in the South Pacific, and with the occupational forces in Japan. The 132nd has annual reunions to which Mr. and Mrs. McCormick have traveled, and have hosted. They also enjoyed several trips to the Holy Land.

Mr. McCormick was a member and ordained Elder of the Church of the Savior, was president of the Fort Saint Joseph Historical Association, was secretary of the Missions East Condo Association, and was a volunteer with the Red Cross Bloodmobile, all in Niles. He also volunteered at Hope Rescue Mission, South Bend.

On July 17, 1943, in Massachusetts, he was married to the former Kathleen Boonstra, who survives. He is also survived by their children, Patricia Deakin and her husband Gerry of Mishawaka, Ind., Michael and his wife Gaye of Mattawan, Mich., and Steven and his wife Kathy of Vicksburg, Mich.; seven grandsons; his sister, Anarose Davis of Niles; and by several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Eulalia G. Hardy who died in 1995; by Eulalia's husband, Lawrence O. Hardy in 1994; and by a brother, Frank in 1987.

Funeral services for Mr. McCormick will be held from the Church of the Savior at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, with the Rev. Leon Roggen officiating. Committal services will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles, and will include a flag presentation by American Legion Post 26 Commander John McLaughlin.

The family will receive friends at Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles, from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. McCormick may be made to the Church of the Savior, or to the Hope Rescue Mission.

McConnell, Donald R.

Donald R. McConnell, 85, of 707 Neib St., Niles, died at 10:50 a.m. Saturday  Jan. 7, 1995 in Pawating Hospital after an illness. Mr. McConnell retired from Parrish Machine Shop, South Bend, and formerly was employed by Simplicity Pattern Co. He was born Dec. 20, 1909, in Detroit. His wife, Lois, whom he married April 18, 1981, survives. Also surviving are a daughter, Sandra L. Ryan of Gobles, Mich.; two grandchildren; and a brother, Jack, of Clearwater, Fla. He was a volunteer at Niles Senior Center, a member of International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers and served as an officer in several local unions.

Services will be at 3 p.m. Wednesday in Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association.

  

McBain, D. Louise (Bischoff)

D. Louise McBain
July 22, 1920-June 21, 2003

D. Louise McBain, 82, formerly of South Seventh Street, Niles, Mich., died at 11:50 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2003, in her daughter's home at 307 Whitman Court, Buchanan, Mich., where she resided since 1997, following an extended illness.

She was born July 22, 1920, in Niles to Charles and Bertha (Smith) Bischoff.

Louise was the former director of nursing for the River Park Nursing Home in South Bend. She also was a nurse at Berrien General Hospital in Berrien Center, Mich., and at Silverbrook Manor in Niles. She also practiced nursing in private homes in the community.

Louise enjoyed reading books at the Niles Community Library and taking care of her grandchildren even in her illness.

On Dec. 24, 1938, in Niles she married Joe K. McBain who died Feb. 4, 1974. Her son, Dale L. McBain; and granddaughter, Kelly L. McBain also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, RaeAnn McBain (Larry) Clark of Buchanan; grandchildren, David J. (Mary) Clark of Buchanan, Christopher L. Clark of Niles, Cory Dale (Cherri) McBain of Buchanan, Kim (Todd) McNeely of Buchanan, Vicky (Bob) Ruth of Buchanan, Valerie Klodzinski of Mishawaka, Ind.; great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Brittany McBain, Shelby Clark, and Robert Ruth; step-grandchildren, Marcus Russell, Alex and Austin McNeely, Robin, Rachel and Robbie Bahr; and a daughter-in-law, Tish McBain of Buchanan.

Graveside funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles with the Reverend Charles Stanley of Life Action Ministries officiating. Interment will follow. There will be no public visitation.

Arrangements were made by the Halbritter Funeral Home.

McAllister, Bobbie E.

Bobbie E. McAllister

Bobbie E. McAllister, 64, of Teeside Drive, Snellville, GA, formerly of Niles and Cassopolis, died unexpectedly but of natural causes in her home, April 15, 2007.  She was born March 2, 1943. Survivors include her children, James McAllister Jr. of Suwanee, GA, Felicia McAllister of Snellville and William McAllister of Niles; six grandchildren; and brothers, Jim O. Easterwood of Sarasota, FL, Gil Easterwood of Dacula, GA, and Dairold Easterwood of Fairfax, VA. Graveside services will be at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at Silverbrook Cemetery, Niles. Friends may call one hour prior to the services in Halbritter Funeral Home, Niles.
