Niles News in Brief: COMMITTAL RITES

Committal rites were conducted this afternoon at 2 at Silverbrook cemetery for Judy Elaine[sic] Firnstahl, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Firnstahl, 1429 Powers court. The child was stillborn Monday night at 6:30 in Pawating hospital.

GANO INFANT DIES

The infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. R. Dean Gano, 211 North Fourteenth street, died at birth this morning at Pawating hospital. Surviving besides the parents is a brother, John, at home.

Committal services will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Silverbrook cemetery with the Rev. L. George Beacock officiating. Arrangements are being made by the Kiger funeral home.

Niles News in Brief: HEGERFELD RITES

Prayer services were conducted at 2 Wednesday afternoon in the Price and Kiger chapel for the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Christ Hegerfeld, 725 North Fourth street. The Rev. Theodore Laesch, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran church, officiated. Burial was in Silverbrook cemetery. The infant was born Tuesday morning in Pawating Hospital.

Mrs. Clara Ames, 725 Maple St., died Sunday night at her home. She had been a Niles resident for the past 40 years, moving here in 1920 from Michigan City, Ind.

She was a member of the G.I.A. Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.

She was born on April 9, 1886, in Michigan City. Her husband, Charles, died in 1933.

She is survived by three sons, Kenneth Ames of Edwardsburg, Robert Ames of Niles and Charles F. Ames, CPO, U.S. Navy, San Diego; a daughter, Mrs. Frederick VanDyke of Niles; and four grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. John P. MacLachlan, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

TO ATTEND RITES

Members of the GIA to the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers will meet at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Pifer Funeral Home to attend funeral services for Mrs. Clara Ames, 725 Maple St., who died Sunday night at her home.

Russell Cramer, 58, 1364 Ferry St., died at 2:20 p.m. (EST) Monday in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, following an illness of 15 days.

Mr. Cramer was born Feb. 8, 1902, at Swan, Ind., and came to Niles from Toledo, Ohio, 31 years ago. He had been employed by National-Standard Co., and was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and of the Council of the church.

Surviving are: his widow, Dorsie; his mother, Mrs. Daisie Shaffer, Toledo, Ohio; his father, Morrell Cramer, Latto, Ind.; a son, John Cramer, Niles; two grandchildren, Becky Ann and Phillip Russell Cramer, and five brothers, Herbert Cramer, Detroit, Leo Cramer, Mount Clova, Ohio, Willard Cramer, Oregon, Ohio, Roger Cramer, Mansfield, Ohio, and Robert Cramer, Toledo, Ohio.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church with the pastor, the Rev. H. Allen Maxwell, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends will be received at the Pifer Funeral Home after 7 p.m. today and until 11 a.m. Thursday.

Dougherty, Lucy Jane 1863-1960

A former Niles resident, Mrs. Lucy Jane Dougherty, 97, 2010 W. Cacopah St., Phoenix, Ariz,. died at 10 a.m. Saturday at her home. She had been ill six months.

She was born June 6, 1863 in Charleston, W. Va., and had lived in Niles from 1920 to 1940. She moved to Phoenix in 1940.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Frank Schiel, Phoenix, three sons, O.J. Dougherty, Phoenix, F.C. Dougherty, East Chicago, Ind., and B.C. Ferguson, Michigan City, Ind., five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Her husband Clem, died in 1927.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday from the Kiger and Halbritter Funeral Home with the Rev. Maurice D. McKean officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Christena Douglas, Resident of Niles 30 Years, Stricken

Mrs. Christena Jane Douglas, 79, died Tuesday afternoon at 2 in the hospital in Berrien Center. Her home was at 116 Emmons street.

Mrs. Douglas was born Feb. 21, 1862, in Steuben county, Ind., and came to Niles from Chicago in 1911. She was married Oct. 11, 1883, in Bainbridge to Delorum Douglas.

She is survived by a son, Albion Douglas, Elkhart, Ind.; a brother, George Bowerman, Niles, and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Morehouse and Mrs. Katie Todd, Chicago.

Friends may call at the Price and Kiger funeral home where services will be conducted Thursday afternoon at 2. The Rev. Palmer, Elkhart, will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Funeral services for Mrs. Christena Jane Douglas, who died Tuesday afternoon, were conducted this afternoon at 2 in the Price and Kiger funeral chapel. The Rev. F.A. Palmer, Elkhart, officiated. At the services and burial was in Silverbrook cemetery. Relatives of the deceased served as pallbearers. Mrs. Douglas' home was at 116 Emmons street.
