CHRISTIAN NIEB, 78, DIES FRIDAY

Christian F. Nieb, 78, lifelong resident of Niles, died Friday in the hospital at Berrien Center. He has been ill for some time.

Mr. Nieb, familiarly known as Chris, was born Nov. 27, 1863, and was a retired tailor. His home was at 28 ½ North State street.

He is survived by a sister, Mrs. A.R. Sackman, South Bend and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Rutherford funeral home where services will be conducted Monday afternoon at 2:30. The Rev. J. Kenneth Hoffmaster will officiate and burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Members of the family served as pallbearers at funeral services for Christian F. Nieb, conducted this afternoon at 2:30 in the Rutherford funeral home. Mr. Nieb, a lifelong resident of Niles, died Friday. The Rev. J. Kenneth Hoffmaster officiated and burial was in Silverbrook cemetery.

Clair Arthur Peel

Clair Peel, 43, of 521 North Third Street, died at 6 p.m. Wednesday at his home.

Peel was born July 16, 1911, in Hollsopple, Pa., and moved to Niles four years ago. He was employed at the Niles Cabinet Company.

Surviving are: his wife, Jennie; a son, Clair Jr., with the United States Air Force in San Antonio, Tex.; two sons and a daughter, Leon, Carol Ann and Harold, all at home; eight brothers, William, Harold, Fred, Wesley and Jack, all of Marsteller, Pa., Earl of Erie, Pa., Olander, of New York City and brownie, of Commodore, Pa.; six sisters, Mrs. Martha Dutton, of Niagrara[sic] Falls, N.Y., Mrs. Lillian Krupa, of Marsteller, two other sisters in New York City and two others in Marsteller.

Friends may call at the Pifer Funeral Home here where services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. T.M. Greenhoe, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

DEATHS: PEEL RITES POSTPONED

Services for Clair Peel, originally scheduled Saturday, have been postponed until Monday to allow faraway relatives to attend. Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Pifer Funeral Home by the Rev. T.M. Greenhoe of the First Presbyterian Church. Burial will be at Silverbrook Cemetery.

Nellie A. Peters

Nellie A. Peters, of 1521 East Main street, died suddenly 3:15 p.m. Monday at the family cottage on Birch lake.

Mrs. Peters leaves her husband, Marion Peters, owner of the East Main Gardens florist business here, and nine children, 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Also surviving is a sister, Mrs. Dora Griffith, of Sand Creek, Mich.

Her children are Mrs. Vern Murphy, Mrs. Robert Stowe, Roy and Robert Peters, Mrs. Roy Brawley, [illegible] of Niles, Mrs. James George, of [illegible], Miller of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Richard Luke, of Buchanan.

She was born in Sand Creek on May 12, 1885, and came to Niles from there 33 years ago. She was a member of the Mothers of World War II and the American Legion auxiliary.

Friends may call at the Pifer funeral home, where services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday by the Rev. L. George Beacock, pastor of the First Methodist church. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Charles D. Pfeil

CHARLES D. PFEIL TAKEN BY DEATH

Charles D. Pfeil, 76, resident of Niles and Niles township all his life, died Wednesday afternoon at 5:45 in his home at 1002 North Fifth street. He had been ill of heart trouble for six months but his condition was considered serious only a few minutes.

Mr. Pfeil was born June 26, 1865, northwest of Niles on what is now the E.M. Morris estate. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. William Pfeil. Their old home stood where the Morris riding stables are now located.

The early part of his life was spent on the farm. Later, he became interested in construction work and worked for several years as a construction foreman.

Worked on Rail Line

In that capacity he helped build the old interurban line from Niles to St. Joseph, the Michigan Central terminal and the roads from Niles to Sumnerville and from Buchanan to Berrien Springs.

His wife, the former Miss Sophia Bauman died May 3, 1937. He is survived by four sons, William Pfeil, South Bend; Clarence, John and Arthur Pfeil, Niles; three daughters, Mrs. Edward Hahn and Mrs. Frank Albright, Niles, and Miss Pauline Pfeil, at home, and 10 grandchildren.

Services in Home, Church Saturday for Charles Pfeil

Funeral services for Charles D. Pfeil, 78, lifelong resident of Niles and Niles township, will be conducted Saturday afternoon at 2:30 in St. John's Evangelical church by the Rev. Theo Eisen.

Mr. Pfeil died Wednesday in his home at 1002 North Fifth street after an illness of six months of heart trouble.

Friends may call at the home where the body was taken Thursday night from the Rutherford funeral home. Private services, for relatives, will be conducted in the home Saturday at 12. The body will then be taken to St. John's Church where it will lie in state until the hour of the funeral.

Pallbearers will be his sons, Clarence, William, John and Arthur, and two grandsons, Robert Pfeil and William Albright. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Gayl K. Platt
March 26, 1876-Dec. 28, 1960

Mrs. Gayl K. Platt, 84, 17 S. 7th St., died at 5:15 p.m. Wednesday in Pawating Hospital where she had been a patient two days.

She was born on March 26, 1876 in Chicago and had lived in Niles for 65 years. Her husband, Lester G. Platt, died in 1935.

She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, Seepewa Reading Club and the St. Agnes Guild.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Harold G. Hanlin of Buchanan and two grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Friday at the Trinity Episcopal Church with the Rev. John G. Carlton officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.

Friends may call at the Kiger and Halbritter Funeral Home.

NILES—Mrs. Caroline Porter, 86, of Grand Rapids, a former Niles resident, died Sunday.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon in the MJ. Clark Memorial Home chapel. Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. in Silverbrook Cemetery, with the Rev. Robert M. Trenery officiating.
