Gust Stevens, rural route two, died at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Pawating hospital where he was taken on Oct 30, after he collapsed with a heart attack on a downtown street.

Any relatives are asked to contact the Pifer funeral home where the body has been taken.  Stevens was about 65 years of age, and formerly was employed by the New York Central Railroad company here.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete, and will be announced later.

 

Thomson, Florence E.

Mrs. Florence E. Thomson, 60, of rural route one, died at 10 a.m. Sunday in Lee Memorial hospital in Dowagiac after an illness of five weeks.

She was born in Kalamazoo county on May 26, 1891, and came here from Vicksburg in 1917.  She was married in South Bend on Feb. 7, 1917, to Samuel Thomson who survives.  Also surviving is a brother, John W. Haas, of Vicksburg.

Mrs. Thomson was a member of the First Presbyterian church here, the Howard Township Home Economics club and the Cass County Farm Bureau of Women.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the First Presbyterian church with the Rev. T. M. Greenhoe, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.  Friends may call at the Kiger funeral home.

 

Wolford, Louis F.

Louis F. Wolford, 60, died at 7:30 p.m. Monday, at the home of his brother Carl Wolford, 1114 Lake street.  He had been ill one-year.

He was born Dec. 23, 1891, in Niles and has lived here all his life.  He was a veteran of World War one and a member of the American Legion.

He is survived by two sisters and brothers, Mrs. Anna Exner, Mrs. Allen Benjamin, Carl and Edward, all of Niles.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Pifer funeral home with the Rev. Herbert Meussling, pastor of St. John’s Evangelical Church, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

 

Hayden, Sandra W. (Decker)

Sandra W. Hayden, 78, was born on July 17, 1936 in Walkerton, Indiana. She was one of five children born to Howard and Helen Decker.

Sandra married Jack L. Hayden on April 26, 1959. The first child was born in 1959, Debra Diann of Niles, second born in 1962, Jeffrey Lynn of Elkhart, third born in 1963, Timothy Allen of Niles and fourth born in 1964 is Tonya Marie of Statesville, North Carolina.

She retired from the U.S. Postal Service in Niles after 30 years. Her daughter Debra followed her footsteps, retiring from the Berrien Springs office after 25 years. Sandra continued to work another 6 years at Wal-Mart of Niles in fabrics and crafts, which was a great fit for her as she loved sewing and crafting herself. She was a member of T.O.P.S. #521 in Niles for almost 30 years. Sandra was a volunteer with the Niles Senior Center for many years, where she had many awesome friends who she loved to play BINGO with and to go to the casino, and other area centers. Sandra was a grandmother to 9 and a great-grandmother to 15 with one on the way.

A graveside service was held on Friday, Feb. 6, 2015, at Silverbrook Cemetery. A celebration of Sandra’s life will be held on Feb. 16, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the Niles Senior Center located at 1109 Bell Road in Niles. Please join family and friends and share your own special memories of Sandy.

Raderstorf, Elsie E. (Bratcher)

NILES - Elsie E. Raderstorf, 94, of Plymouth, formerly of Niles, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2015 at Signature HealthCare of Bremen, following a lengthy illness. She was born on March 18, 1920 in Bowling Green, Kentucky to the late David A. and Ethel (Wilson) Bratcher. Elsie married the late Edmund J. Raderstorf at a ceremony in Logansport, Indiana and the two of them raised five children. A homemaker most of her life, Elsie was gifted at cooking and canning and always put her family's needs above her own. She was raised Catholic and attended both St. Mary's Catholic Church and St. Mark Catholic Church in Niles. She was preceded in death by her parents, David Bratcher and Ethel Bratcher Minter, her husband, Edmund J. Raderstorf, two daughters, Sandra Kay Barna and Linda Darlene Banner, and three sisters, Mary B. Gilbert, Barbara G. See and Dorothy Hellyer. Elsie is survived by two sons, Herbert J. (Tammy) Raderstorf of Plymouth, Indiana and Gene E. Raderstorf of Denver, Colorado, a daughter, Carol Sue Cates of South Bend, seventeen grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. A time of visitation will be held at Brown Funeral Home on Monday, February 16, 2015 from 4:00 p.m. until 6:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Thomas King, C.S.C. officiating. An interment will be held at Silverbrook Cemetery in Niles. While flowers are welcome, memorial contributions may also be made to a charity of one's choice

Danny Raymond Sisk, 59, of Niles, died of natural causes at 3 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, 2012, at Lakeland Hospital in St. Joseph.

Danny was born Feb. 14, 1953, in Niles to Paul and Virginia Sisk, who both preceded him in death. Danny worked in general labor and was a lifetime resident of the area.

Surviving family members include son David Sisk, of Niles; sister Caroline Anderson, of Niles; brothers, Ed Sisk, of Buchanan, Larry Sisk, of Niles, Ron Sisk, of Dowagiac, and Steve Sisk, of Dowagiac; and two grandchildren.

Cremation has taken place. Arrangements were entrusted to Hoven Funeral Home, Inc.

BUCHANAN - Virginia M. Sisk, 82, of Buchanan, passed away on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, at the Cass County Medical Care Facility in Casso-polis. Virginia was born on April 23, 1932, to the late Jacob and Effie (Simpson) Myer in Buchanan, MI. On May 3, 1948, she married Paul Sisk Sr. at a ceremony in Buchanan. She is survived by her children, Paul "Ed" (Debra) Sisk Jr. of Buchanan, Caroline (Ed) Anderson of Niles, Larry (Judy) Sisk of Niles, Ronnie (Cindy) Sisk of Dowagiac and Steve Sisk of Dowagiac; sister, Helen Barlow of Buchanan; eleven grandchildren, twenty great-grandchild-ren and five great-great-grandchildren. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Effie; husband of 54 years, Paul Sr; daughter, Connie; son, Danny; brothers, Jacob Jr., Harold and Donnie; and sisters, Gladys, Mary and Ruby. Viewing will be held from 4-7 pm on Sunday, February 8, 2015, at Hoven Funeral Home, Buchanan. Funeral services will take place at 11 am on Monday, February 9, 2015, at Hoven Funeral Home.
