Funeral services for Charles William Shafer, 65, who died at his South Bend home Wednesday, will be conducted at the Hay mortuary in South Bend, at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery here.

Wenzel Infant Ill, Three Weeks, Dies

Robert George Wenzel, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Wenzel, 315 South St. Joseph avenue, died late last night, after a there[sic]-weeks' illness.

The child was born September 16 in Niles. He is survived by his parents, one sister, Marilyn, and his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Martin Wenzel and Mr. and Mrs. Chester McOmber.

Funeral services will be held in the Rutherford-Phillips Mortuary Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Dr. G. W. Simon, officiating.  The body will be at the mortuary until after the service. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

LIFELONG RESIDENT OF NILES SUCCUMBS
Mrs. Emma White, 89, Dies After Stroke; Was Oldest Baptist Here

Mrs. Emma H. White, 89, a lifelong resident of Niles and vicinity and the oldest member of the First Baptist church, died early this morning at 241 North State street. Mrs. White suffered a paralytic stroke five weeks ago, which terminated in her death today.

Mrs. White was born on a farm one and a half miles west of Niles and had lived there and in Niles all her life. She was the last of a family of 16 children.  Joining the baptist church here when she was 12 years old, she had been a member continuously for 77 years.  She was born February 22, 1846.

Surviving are three nieces.  Mrs. Charles H. Hess, Niles; Mrs. Homer Martin, Kendallville, Ind., and Mrs. Melvin Frane, South Bend, also one nephew,Loren Babcock, Niles.

Friends are asked to call at the residence, 241 North State street. The funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the Price and Kiger funeral home, the Rev. James F. Goodman, officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.

Note: Per death record, parents were Hiram Babcock and Jane Chilson.

George Wolaver

Niles News In Brief:  FORMER RESIDENT PASSES

George Wolaver, a former resident of Niles, died this morning at his home in Detroit. Mr. Wolaver's body will be sent to Niles for burial, arriving here at 3:29 Saturday after noon.

 It will be met by the Price and Kiger ambulance and taken to Silverbrook cemetery for burial. Mrs. Wolaver, who died in 1934, is also buried in the family lot at Silverbrook.

Note:  DOB from Michigan Death record which spells name as “Wolaver” as in obituary.  Cemetery record spells name “Woliver”.

MRS. GEORGE WORM DIES AT AGE OF 30

Niles Woman Succumbs After Four Day Illness; Rites Wednesday Afternoon

Mrs. Pearl Lillian Worm, wife of George Worm, 1350 Broadway, died Sunday afternoon at 3 o'clock in Pawating hospital following a four day's illness.  Peritonitis caused from a gall bladder infection was the cause of her death.

Mr. Worm was 30 years old. She came to Niles from Chesterton, Ind., in September, 1917, and had lived here since that time.  She was a member of the Methodist church, of the Couples club, and of the Junior Ladies Aid society of the Methodist church.

She was born in Chesterton, Ind., May 4, 1905, and was married, Aug. 30, 1924, to George Worm in Edwardsburg.

Beside her husband, she leaves a daughter, Betty Lou, seven years old, her father, James L. Richardson, ; two brothers, Charles Richardson, Niles and Arden Richardson, Buchanan; three sisters, Mrs. A.N. Cochrane and Mrs. John Nevill, Niles; Mrs. Frank Reading, Gary, Ind., and Mrs. Audus Durflinger, Watervliet, Mich.

Funeral services will be held in the Methodist church Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. T.O. Lee officiating. Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery. Friends may call at the family home until the hour of the funeral.

David Housh Zimmer

Heart Attack Is Fatal to Zimmer Infant Sunday

A sudden heart attack proved fatal late Sunday afternoon to David Housh Zimmer, infant son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry W. Zimmer, 710 Chicago road. The baby was taking its customary nap in its cab on the porch. At 4:30 o'clock when the family went to the porch to waken him they discovered that the child had succumbed to a heart ailment.

The baby was the youngest of the three Zimmer children. He was born at Pawating hospital Sept. 18. 1935, and would have been three months old Wednesday. Beside his parents, he leaves his two brothers, Henry Tedrick and John Wensel. 

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Rutherford-Phillips mortuary, the Rev. Dr. G.W. Simon officiating.  Burial will be in Silverbrook cemetery.
