FORMER NILES RESIDENTS

Word of the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lowe of Traverse City, former residents of Niles and parents of Fire Chief Harold Lowe, was received in Niles Saturday and today.

Alma F. Lowe, who was 73, died Saturday morning at Traverse City whee she had resided with her husband for the past six years. Word of Mr. Lowe's death, which occured[sic] this morning, was received in Niles shortly before noon today.

The Lowes operated a grocery store at 122 Oak Street for over 20 years.  Prior to moving to Niles, they operated a grocery store in South Bend for about six years. About six years ago they retired and moved to Traverse City.

Mrs. Lowe was born in South Bend on Aug. 11, 1894. Obituary details on Mr. Lowe have not been received.

Survivors are, in addition to Fire Chief Lowe, one granddaughter and three sisters, Mrs. Thomas Spry of South Bend, Mrs. Fred Hahn and Mrs. Walter Zimmer of Niles. Mrs. Zimmer, who has been in Ariz., has returned to Niles.

The body of Mrs. Lowe is at Kiger-Halbritter Funeral Home. Funeral services are incomplete pending arrangements for Mr. Lowe.

DOUBLE FUNERAL SET

Double funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Ray Lowe of Traverse City have been set for Thursday at 3 p.m., in  St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church. The Rev. Herbert Meussling will officiate.

Mrs. Lowe, 73, died Saturday morning and Mr. Lowe, 69[sic],died Monday morning.

They are survived by a son, Harold Lowe, Niles fire chief. Mr. Lowe is survived by a sister, Mrs. Sarah Welker, Chicago, in addition to the survivors previously listed.

Mr. Lowe was born June 2, 1888, and moved with his wife to Traverse City from Niles six years ago. He was a retired grocer. 

Mr. Lowe was a member of the Elks Lodge.

The bodies were removed to the Kiger-Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will be in Silverbrook Cemetery.
