Edward Stevens, Killed by Auto, Buried in Niles

Burial rites for Edward Stevens, 71, former resident of Niles who died Saturday morning in Elkhart General hospital of injuries suffered when he was struck by an car, will be conducted this afternoon at 3 in Silverbrookecemetery[sic].  The funeral is set for 1 (CWT) in the Charles Walley funeral home, Elkhart.

Stevens, who was born in Spring Lake, Mich., March 15, 1871, suffered a compound fracture of each leg and head injuries when struck Thursday morning on US-112 in Elkhart by a car driven by Richard Mellott, 20, Cassopolis.

A resident of Niles many years, Stevens moved to Elkhart 18 years ago at the time of the death of his mother, the late Mrs. Olive Stevens. He had been living in Elkhart with his sister, Mrs. Jessie Lucke.
