Gerald A. Lightner, 89, 409 Courtland St., Dowagiac, died Saturday at 11:20 p.m. Saturday at Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac after a brief illness.
He was retired meat cutter for Kroger Food Stores. He was born Dec. 31, 1894 in Hartford and had livedhis lifetime in the area.
He married Ruth Roebeck on July 29, 19, 1044 in Niles. She died on Oct. 3, 1979.
Surviving are two daughters, Clara Rosenbaum of Benton Harbor and Kay Gray of Dowagiac; a brother, Seward Lightner of North Carolina; three sisters, Jennie Balfour and Claribell Jackson of Watervliet and Hilda Rudell of St. Joseph; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Halbritter Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Silverbrook Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
